Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

No, because the cherry on top of the delicious cake is they will be excluded from the next few drafts.

Can't have them prospering from their own mistakes. New potential draftees will not want their kids going to Essendrug either. The far reaching ramifications of all of this is beautiful :)

of course......but read the post i was replying to

Sloonie, i've gotta say I can pick up on your pure, unbridled joy in every post. Makes some hilarious reading.

Carry on!

I'm probably enjoying this a little too much lol, but being a melbourne supporter we must find the joys in the little things in life. Other club's misfortune is definitely one of them. Especially Essendon. I'm just crossing my fingers that North and Carlton have an equally tasty and spectacular fall out very soon.

Isn't it possible that the AFL might not want to have two major investigations and potentially protracted court cases on their plate?

The drugs issue is, I would imagine, far more serious and potentially far more damaging to the AFL's brand, in which case, why would it not be possible that the Tanking case will be dismissed on the basis that the evidence was far too inconclusive (a much easier conclusion to reach than a case where drug abuse is involved). Then they can concentrate all of their efforts in sorting out a potentially much more far reaching problem (barrel of monkeys compared to our can of worms).

Both are a form of cheating if proven.

At this stage we dont know exactly what the AFL have on both issues. MFC tanking has been lack of disclosure of the investigation. The Essendon matter has just broken.

Drugs does have more sex appeal with the media than boring old match fixing or not playing to your utmost.

I am concerned they will feel the need to act sternly and harshly to both matters. I hope my concerns dont eventuate.

Yeah right. I did say last night we had only a few hours to see how honest and principled she really is. Well we have our answer.

A clear lack of bottle, insight, and vitriol. That must be what happens when someone who has not previously [censored] you off does wrong.

Or when the target of your article is a club with far more supporters, not the skinny kid in the playground. Typical bully cowardice

agreed, its refreshing to read the backpage without having to put up with some journo backhanding the club we love. long may it stay this way!

The other point in the comparison is whilst you can make arguments about who knew what substances who was taking , you either have taken a banned substance or you havent. It is definitive. From my reading of the evidence in the tanking debate (from the papers) it is subjective.

On the bomber boards someone has said it is SARMS they were using. If so, this is really bad [censored]. Looking through what it does and how it works, I would put it in the massively high risk category for long-term impact on your health and probably some forms of cancer. I really hope they haven't been stupid enough to go down that path.

I know a bit about this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_androgen_receptor_modulator

this is reliable and accurate

the aim is to get selective androgen responses (so liver not affected and testes not shrunk, but muscle bulked up, if the target was muscles)

In clinical testing
  • Enobosarm (Ostarine, MK-2866, GTx-024) - affects both muscle and bone, intended mainly for osteoporosis but also general treatment for andropause and reversing muscle sarcopenia in the elderly and for cachexia in cancer patients.[10]
  • BMS-564,929 - mainly affects muscle growth, intended as general treatment for symptoms of andropause
  • LGD-4033 - pharmacological profile similar to that of enobosarm

<If> it's this stuff, then they're gone - totally rooted.

I don't think they will eventuate...

I really think that the AFL will want the Tanking issue out of the way now post haste so that they can concentrate all of their efforts on this latest debacle, and what better time to sweep our case under the carpet than now. They know that if they bring in a guilty finding against us, they will have a long and protracted court case to deal with... what do you think they would rather deal with, a few journos bad mouthing them over their relenting (I think you will find there would be a few clubs breathing heavy sighs of relief if the accusations are dismissed), or the serious business of cleaning up the drugs issue?

The changes to the way in which priority picks are handled has virtually ensured tanking will no longer happen, so in a way that problem has already been solved, but the drugs issue is not going to disappear unless a genuinely concerted effort is made across the whole comp (and even that is no guarantee).

But we beat them in the first half right?

Melbourne Demons - so good we can beat teams on steroids!

Whilst its nice to have another club in the gun other than Melbourne this is a shocker for footy and i sincerely hope they are cleared of wrongdoing.

The potential ramifications are mind boggling. For starters it would appear that if it was proven a player used a banned substance the minimum they would get would be 12 months out of the game but more likely 24 (even though the base penalty under WADA is 2 years there appears to be some scope for mitigating circumstances to reduce that?).

If multiple players are banned they will struggle to field a side which apart from anything else will smash revenues (no ANZAC game for starters) and you'd imagine Channel 7 and Foxtel will be wanting a refund on the billion they paid for tv rights. We can forget equalization payments if that happens and the money they are pouring into GWS might slow to a trickle.

The AFL have taken a massive financial gamble with GWS and a big drop in revenue could threaten the financial viability of the league. This is just one of the many potential terrible outcomes of all of this - the fall out will not stop at Essendon's door. All clubs will suffer, the AFL brand will suffer, it would be harder to get sponsorship into the game (think back to the hit on NRL when its reputation was smashed 20 odd years ago -its only recovering now) and on and on.

We dont know if they have smoking gun evidence that links Club official actions to intent. IMO this would be definitive and not subjective. The speculation on DLand is certainly subjective!

Good thoughts Binman.

While i am glad its not MFC for once, its not good for the LT interests of the game to have a cornerstone club crippled. Its not good for the health of the game and MFC.

I am wondering whether the Wade Lees (Casey) 18 month suspension provides a litmus test for possible penalties.

As some of you know I am close friends with a very high profile, senior player from another club. If you know who this player is please do not mention the name on this forum.

Mid last year I was speaking to him about recreation drugs in the AFL and he said that the problem with recreation drugs in the AFL was less than it was 5 years ago, and less than in the general community. He said he could not understand why the AFL was putting so much effort into recreational drugs as in his opinion performance enhancing drugs were the real problem. He then went onto say that a new substance was widely used at Essendon and Collingwood. Further players from other clubs were also on this new substance. He said that this substance could not be tested for and he thought was not yet explicitly on the banned list. This substance gave benefit to strength, injury recovery, training and match recovery and endurance.

In a recent conversation about Lance Armstrong he again complained about doping in the AFL. What this tells me that inside AFL circles this problem has been known about for some time. The AFL has been slow in reacting to this.

My first thought on this issue was 'Where is the journalist troll (Caro)' surely she is not still on holidays!!!

I wonder if Fan (bagdad what ever his name is) and others are still re-joicing her expertise?

Maybe Barrett will be the new messiah now he found the story

I think she has locked herself away in a "VAULT" to do some research

I'm not sure whether English is Kim Hagdorn's second or third language but that piece is barely intelligible.

"Waivers" used for "waving off" responsibility? LOL

Hilarious read, I think it was dumbed down for essendon supporters

Would Danny Corcoran & Dean Wallis have known anything about these matters as the Football General Manager & Football Administrater respectively?

Surely they would have been incharge of Steven Dank, their sports scientist @ the cntr of much of this?

There is one thing that concerns me.

If Dank was knocked back for a job at Melbourne, was this a widely advertised position?

Who if any was the successful applicant?

Do we have any new names on our Staff list?

Perhaps some of you "Insiders" can shed some light on this.

In all seriousness though I do feel for the players. They have been stupid if they have signed something like has been reported, misplaced faith or trying to get an unfair advantage. This will ruin careers if it is correct.

aka cheating!!

I feel for the innocent players, especially Watson, but that is as far as my sympathy goes.

.......

Leave Jobe out of it. He's clean.

Plus when he's a free agent next year he's out of there. Would love him in the red and blue :)

Do we really know who is clean and who if any are not??? Premature judgement IMO.

Hird & all his clan must walk.

They must have known about all this & if not they should have.

"Bye..."

Ignorance is not necessarily bliss!

Essendope might have to rethink the make-up of their players (apparently dysfunctional) leadership group.

that is if there anyone left

Goddard? And Tripper Fletcher clearly has never taken body building drugs, unlike .........

Buck stops with CEO, Hird and Thompson. At least one or more of those heads wil have to roll.

My radar says it was the insider and shifty-as-all-get-out Thompson who took mate Hird along for the ride. Something tells me things might get more than a little icy between those two! Lol.

Thompson has been kept very low key, hasn't he.

Where is all the talk about "disgusting" behaviour etc etc she was labelling the D's with and when it comes to another club all of a sudden it is reported totally differently. If you ever needed proof of how poor a journalist she is, this is it. A journalist is supposed to be even handed and report on facts. CW is a shocker.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
