Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Deano just had the picture in his wallet and only stumbled on to it last week. He had run out of money after losing large on betting on the footy and was scouring his wallet for any money. He had mistakenly bet on Ess beating Melb in a replay from 2012.

A (nicely) reasoned analysis of the information that can be drawn from the photo in question (from the thread on BF):

1) Whoever is holding the vial is holding it between his thumb and index finger giving you some idea of the size of the vial. It is likely to be a 2 ml vial so no it wouldn't be one of the ones supplied by Alavi. Also being from July 2012 you would expect that the first supply would be long gone.

2) The concentration appears to read in the "thousand microgram" concentration range (x3 0s visible and mcg is microgram) so it is likely to be at 1000-9000 micrograms/ml (or 1-9 mg/ml). Typical doses of Thymomodulin appear to range from 80-120 mg so the vial wouldn't contain enough for a single shot (well assuming that it is at 10,000 micrograms (no-one would ever use those units, you would state it as mg) and the vial contains 2 ml of extract then you would need 4-6 vials/dose.) Interestingly TB4 is used at the 2-4 mg/ml range ..............

3) The photo was taken after Dank "discovered" that TB4 was prohibited and after he tried to manufacture documents saying that Alavi produced Thymomodulin. If Dank is capable of producing fraudulent backdated paperwork for the purchase of Thymomodulin then it would be logical to conclude that he would also be capable of producing fraudulent photos for its presence at the EFC. Ditto with the "Spreadsheet" which appeared a day after the fraudulent paperwork

4) I am still yet to see a single reference to "immunostimulation" during the design or implementation of the program. If this was going to be the "cornerstone" of the program then you would expect it to be extensively discussed in the correspondence between Dank and Hird/Alavi. Instead we hear about soft tissue injuries, and recovery from injuries in general, not players fighting off the flue ........

There is so much which stinks about the "Thymomodulin" story that it is laughable that anyone could take it seriously .........

I too read that with great interest. Great contextual precis.

Be a good day when Dank trips up and lands in court...a real one :)

Just when you think the thing cant really get any sillier the clowns come up with 11th hour "get out of jail" evidence.

How dumb do they really think anyone is.

The pic : 194045-5be8b17a-6e2c-11e4-ae84-798920b22

The photo is a photo of........a photo..or magazine picture... It has creases like its been in someones pocket for crying out loud.

It shows what exactly. Could any vial thats contained anything , or nothing. The chain of custody ?? ( non existent )

But lucky for them I found the real evidence ...

Guaranteed absolutely fair dinkum..

To be fair their are use to dealing with other members of the Essendon Cult who are complete shockers and will believe anything they are told. Fortunately us member of the Melbourne Football Club are made of greater stuff and challenge this type of BS whenever we see it. After all we are all survivors of the Demonland School of hard knocks

However I must point out a clear problem with your picture. It is dated 2011 and not 2012. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Not to worry Essendon will never pick up on this error.

Funny how they make out this breakaway is NEW. Been there for ages. So much of this is media playing its own funny buggers

Essendon could be allowed to use state-league pinch-hitters in a drugs doomsday scenario

This is also something thats been suggested for a while. You only do that when you really think it might just occur.

Kinda suggests to me the AFL will take a bit of a back seat and allow ASADA its rite of passage.

I only think this because the AFL is so...SO compromised its only real option is to do nothing but look like its doing something.

I know the AFL were absolutely filthy with essendon at the fact they were paying hird. apparently essendon burnt all their bridges with the afl back then.

Photoshop xpert at bigfooty has exposed Thymo photo as fake!

Take a look at the bottom of the vial (where the photo is creased vertically) you can see where two shots have been combined. They have made the vial appear wider in order to display more of the p/shopped lettering and hence the magic thymo word. What a bunch of crims that includes the H/S!

How ridiculous will it be when the players get rubbed out, and Hird is still coach. That club is a joke. I wonder if they would have stood by Knights if he was a drug cheat?

Essendon players seek out ex-fitness boss Dean Robinson for court quest

I wonder if they are familiar with the saying : " careful what you wish for " ?

I'm more and more convinced many of these players just can't be that bright.

I'm surprised this story hasn't got a mention in either of the daylies: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-17/i-can-clear-players-dank

I'm wondering if it's because 'Honest Steve' filed defamation suits against 8 media outlets ($10 mil.) including Fairfax in Feb last year.

He also said he'd sue Demetriou (withdrawn), Dave Smith (NRL CEO), the NRL, and Cronulla.

Zero chance of that happening

He is gawn, everything up until now has just delayed the inevitable

It's not just the bottom, the cap is pretty dodgy as well, a distortion not due simply to the fold in the paper. But the other thing that intrigues me is Dank's reference to an amber bottle dated July 2012. This, I presume, is not that bottle. At least it doesn't have any legible date. The only relevant numbers seem to be 1202, which could only be the year in question if it's a palindrome of the Monty Python 'Dead Parrot' sort (the case for the Norwegian Blue being alive is probably far more credible than anything Dank is likely to produce).

Not long ago the AFL ruled that it would not give help to clubs with past records of offending against AFL rules so the Bombers would not qualify for any special draft assistance because they of their governance sanctions on the doping issue in August 2013. Besides that, they have promising young players like Joe Daniher and the Merrett boys plus James Gwilt who they recently picked up as a bargain through delisted free agency as well as two picks in the top 20 in next week's draft. Whatever happens, they don't deserve or need any special assistance from the AFL to help them out in these circumstances.

Assuming the AFL stick to their own rules. Won't happen.

Interesting response in the Herald Sun comments to the story, don't know if it correct but suspect it is (could not believe labellling of drugs would not be covered by governance):

................................................................................................................................

"The vial has an address label stuck to it that can be purchased from office works. All TGA/ FDA registered pharmaceuticals that are 'approved for human use' must have a label that show TGA/ FDA registration number, Expiry Date and Manufacturers details including country of manufacture. The manufacturing site also needs to regularly inspected to maintain GMP approval. There is no way this vial has been produced in a regulatory approved manufacturing site. God knows what is in this dodgy looking vial, lets just hope for the players sake it is what they thought it was, not something more dangerous!"

and the reaction to this (bomber supporters focusing on "office works" rather than the logice (required governance)

  • you have broken the case wide open Colombo.
  • Hate to break it to you Detective but most labels are purchased from Office Works.
  • Most labels found on medicine are purchased at office works are they Paul? Mathew has a very good point
  • Even the ones with the Amcal chemist printed on them?

(In best Jack Nicholson accent....)

Now, Mr Hird, is this the evidence you wish to present to the court?Fake labelling on a medicine bottle? Please tell me you have something more Hirdy. These wretched players are on trial for their lives. Please tell me their lawyer hasn't pinned their hopes on a dodgy photoshopped picture of a medicine bottle?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
