I wish i could share this attitude, i just know it would be our luck though that we would trade him for a good player, they'd do nothing and he would become an absolute superstar somewhere else

Just can't see it happening, will be a nice player and that will be it.

I would be more concerned about losing Jack Fitz, a true KPF with pace, and a strong body who keeps his eyes on the footy and has smarts.

He should stop worrying about whether or not he'll be playing in a winning side and start doing his best so that we can become a winning side. Then he'll have actually achieved something.

Very similar to the statement he proffered some time ago lamenting the lack of leadership at the club

Wheres Gibbs with a good clout around the ears when you need it !! lol

Its like hes waiting for a bus ( we know hes waiting for a coach ) . He seems to be waiting for things to happen around him instead of making things happen around him.

Starting to wonder if my faith has been misplaced.

Isn't this the fear that many had?

That players were not happy?

Whose fault is it?

The last coach wasn't great for, and apparently to, young Jack who has the biggest decision of his life to make.

He can't wait to see whether we screw up the next appointment?

I really don't know how we can all lament the basket case we have become but expect blind faith from the players whose careers are affected by this club's malaise.

Get off your high horse and get down in the mud where the club is.

What if we fall through on all of those?

What if Williams wants a midfield and wants to trade him?

Frankly, I have him pencilled on the trade list anyway, because this is a ruthless business and I want to get better.

Watts is doing what a bright manager would instruct a player to do.

I dont care anymore. I watched Cameron for GWS and couldn't help comparing his perfomrance with Watts. I dont blame him for not signing but cant help thinking that it people like Gawn who we need at the club. It might just be the time to shake and part company, he is not worth much to us and may get a good price on the market that will be better for the team. Its a good chance that it would be better for Watts and better for the club that we traded him for a quality mid or early pick.

I understand your view regarding Gawn, but Gawn hasn't had to deal with even half of what Jack has. No one in the media has expected much from Gawn as a 3rd round draft pick who had problems with his Knees. Everything he has done has been a success because little was expected of him.

The club is to blame for making this a tougher decision for Watts than it needs to be. I can't help but think that when Watts if the Club had said spend a year at Casey to develop, like Hogan has (yes I know Hogan is only there because he can't be on the Senior List due to AFL rules), that the situation would be completely different. If we hadn't rushed him in for our "Grand Final" of each season, the QB clash, and if we had given him a bit more support and time, like we have to Max, then Watts might have signed already.

It's the club who is to blame for not making it an easy choice for players to re-sign, not the players.

Two years ago, I would have said, 'See ya later!'

Now, I'm not so sure - I've actually seen him attack a contest!

I don't think the Club needs to pander to him. Both parties need to come up with a realistic outcome.

If he goes, like dandeeman said, I won't lose any sleep over it.

I can't imagine getting anything better than pick 30 for him or a back up midfielder who played VfL for most of the year.

If Watts wants to go to Carlton I'd be wanting Robinson, Yarran or McLean as a straight swap. I don't care about the past with McLean, I just want a decent midfielder.

Posted

I'm not sure what the fuss is. If I was Jack, I'd want to sit with the coach and say "what are your plans for me? What position do you think you will play me?". Jack would have an idea of what he enjoys and he had been shuffled around. I wouldn't blame him from wanting someone with a solid vision.

Also, if seems obvious he didn't get on with Neeld but lives Craig. I don't mind him waiting to make sure we dont get a Neeld clone personality wise.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this - we make a good call, Jack is wanted, he stays

Not to mention the fact hat it is most likely the manager, not Watts, who has recommended that he wait.

Thats Paul Connors for you. The guy is an absolute snake.

Paul Connors has form when it comes to using threats like this when negotiating player contracts. Has been doing it for years. Doesn't mean Watts will stay or go - but I wouldn't get hung up on public statements such as this one. I expect Connors is just trying to get the club's attention. Perhaps the club has made an offer which Connor, on behalf of his client, is trying to improve.

It could also be Connors trying to get Jack's attention. If so, it could have backfired badly. Edited by Akum

Devils advocate soon on this:

Sooner poster have expressed concern over how will we attract players to the club (young Taylor Adams or other senior midfielders for example.)

well if you sign a coach and Jack steps up and signs and col signs that is a pretty good indication to the external afl playing group that things are on the right track. If these players recommit it is hard to suggest the place is a horrible place to be a player.

got a feeling jack and daisey will be blues next year unfortunately :/

I love the club and I'd be doing the same.

Gee, what a disgrace he is - worrying about his development and future. Particularly after having coaches who feed him to the wolves, publicly denigrate and humiliate him etc.

Let 's kick him to death.

Correct me if i'm wrong but am i to understand that our number one draft pick, (who has been nothing but under whelming since the day we drafted him) is waiting to see if the club (who has been patiently waiting for years for him to actually fulfil or even look like coming close to fulfilling his potential) is able to sign a coach that is up to HIS liking before he even considers putting pen to paper?!!!??!!!

Excuse me, i just need a moment to myself here:

mad-at-theinternet.gif

Fark me ..What a weak character .. Don't even try and persuade him to stay.. If I don't like the new Coach I will take my ball and go home !! We have had enough of that culture.. He is now showing me his on field "non performances" are completely in line with his "soft C...k" character.. Bye Mr. Watts..... I would keep a genuine tryer with the club at heart not a person who grizzles because the coach might not suit HIS demands.. Get rid of these types.. We need to start getting serious in this once great club...I wouldn't play him at all ...From now !! ..

You may love the club, as you say, but if you truly love the club why would you want weak hearted , non performing players like JW in it ? I am sick of the soft approach by some posters on here who are continually finding reasons to keep Watts on our list.. This club is in trouble.. how are people like Watts who are uninspiring and disinterested commanding your support/respect... Give me a break.. Toughen up.. It is time the culture changed.... dramatically !! I was one who was originally very interested in seeing Jack Watts developing into a top player with our club.. He has had more time than some.. It is not going to happen.. He will never be a match winner for this Club.. If you can't stand the heat ... you know the rest..

in all seriousness it all revolves around the AFL's likelyhood of a PP in the first round ( lets say..ummmmm 1 lol )

Yes this is Paul Connors work. Hell he makes a lot more than I ( so can disparage too much  ) but as RPFC and others suggest, he has form.

That said Watts hasnt cemeted himslef as "absolutely neede" Much to my chagrin hes "just ok " and maybe has it in him to be very good ( even very v ery good , now not convinved )

Lose the tickets...wake up Wattsy

I think you'll find that they'll run into salary cap issues.

Maybe not - Watts won't cost much...

Malthouse was saying today that there may be a significant pruning of their list at the end of the season. And hinting at some biggish names going.

Some people are reading a lot into a headline.

But why does anyone expect any loyalty to a club from players these days? Now that it is all a business to everyone but us supporters, you'll get loyalty in odd cases (eg. an injury-prone player whom the club doesn't give up on), and maybe some from father-son types. But the only other loyalty that you'll get is when a group of players see the wider group as successful, and want to stay part of that. Clearly we are a way off that happy situation at present.

Bump up his price?! Moon tell one club that will over pay or pay more than Melb for him let alone a contending club. I'd be very surprised if many clubs let alone a finals club had interest in him let alone paying more than us who need to pay players overs to met the salary cap.

Did I say that other clubs would pay more than us or were interested in him, Card? If he plays increasingly well and kicks a couple of bags of 4 goals during the remaining games this year, I'd say his manager would use that as leverage to claim his worth is greater than it might be ATM. Watts and his manager are backing him to potentially be worth more at season's end than now.

However, now that you mention it, I'd think that the Blues would be interested in Watts, and with Judd's salary dropping substantially next year, they'd go close.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
