im sold on cross. get it done.

Disagree, think he's slow, spends a lot on the ground and is cooked. If he's still got it, the bulldogs would simply not get rid of a good player. Dads army job for mine.

Now that Col is gone am I right in thinking that if we bring in Daniel Cross that offsets part of Col's value or because Cross has been delisted there is no offset.

If there is an offset we should trade for him.

Cross is a Delisted Free Agent and has no effect on compensation for Sylvia.

The second situation is the case, but there seems to be some doubt over whether he's been officially delisted or not.

He is on the AFL website as delisted but the paperwork has not been done for any players yet!

In fact it says retired but he was told that he would not be getting another contract from the Bulldogs so they cannot be compensated and we cannot be penalised for signing him.

Apparently on SEN this morning it said Cross had signed with the dees??

Haven't heard this mentioned anywhere else including Trade Radio which just started at 3pm.

I share similar sentiments.

Surley even if the Dogs wanted to go young why would they not keep Cross on as a handy back-up player?

I think you'll find the Dogs told Cross he wasn't in their best 22. They don't have a midfield problem - Boyd, Griffen, Libba, Wallace, McRae, Smith, Cooney, throw in Dahlhouse, Hrovat and Koby Stevens too.

Because they have enough midfielders not to worry about an elder player. He would still probably be there 6th or 7th best mid but why bother keeping him when they can go young and potentially get someone better coming into there prime when the dogs believe they will be a contender again.

Although yes he is old, and a bit of the dads army type, he would come to us as probably our third or fourth best mid behind Jones and Viney and maybe Vince.

And this is why we are still a long way off from being competitive with other AFL teams.

If Cross is the Western Bulldogs 6th or 7th best midfielder and he comes to us as the 3rd or 4th best then we are in serious trouble.

Our past recruitment and development coaches should be hung, drawn and quartered before the first game next season and left to rot on top of the MCC until the seagulls have disposed of their rotting corpses. Either that or just ridiculed for all eternity.

Yeah but the idea would be that after next season he's not. Hopefully it will be something like this 1. Jones 2. Viney 3. Tyson 4. Trengove 5. Vince 6. Toumpas etc.

Just because he will be next season doesn't mean he will always be. He will teach all the young boys the right way to go about their AFL careers.

The whole point about getting Daniel Cross is twofold, as has been all our trade/draft activity......developing culture and plugging midfield holes. For where we are, or have been this year, for the next season he fits the bill absolutely perfectly. The fact that he is not part of the Bulldogs development plans and thus surplus, in no way means he won't be of huge value for us next year. If you compare picking him up against last year's end of career recruits in Rodan and Byrnes, and for similar expense and sacrifice, he's a glaring winner.

The other way to look at it is how he compares against the 2-3 years younger Col Sylvia. At least for the next 12 months, and barring injury, I know who I'd rather have.

Great pick up.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
