WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

I think we should sign him up to take David Rodans position. I think Rodan was successful at the club. He is a good trainer which helps show the other guys what is required (Tigers players often talk about Ben Cousins in the same way). Cross has played in successful sides and with younger guys so will bring a wealth of experience. He doesn't have to play every game to be successful but I think a one year deal to get a new face into the club and to teach Viney, McKensie et al during training would be good for their development. I wouldn't be given anything up for him tho than a token pick.

Bulldog fans are saying Melbourne would be best fit. Fanatical trainer one of the fittest in the AFL, very ultimate professional, leadership written all over him, family man, tough and would also release pressure of Jones and Viney.

He would also walk into our leadership group and provide valuable experience for our young players.

Could you imagine the benefits of a Viney or Toumpas in what they would get out of following Cross everyday of the week during pre season just by his actions and the way he conducts himself on the track.

Trent Cotchin has said the players got fast tracked by just having Ben Cousins there for two years just in the way he trained and the valuable knowledge he provided with them. and it shows. Look at guys like Cotchin, Martin Conca who have played some unbelievable footy since.

Cross would be just as better because off field he is regarded as a big family man.

I'm going to Email the club and put in a huge case in why we should recruit him.

still think theres room for an assistant playing coach

would ask him to play 12 games for the year and use reserve grade if needed to peak and be ready for seniors

brogan, power McDonald have done a terrific job in gws

I think we're currently oversaturated with NQR veterans so if we are to take Cross then he'll need to replace on of them rather than take the spot of a young up and comer.

Let's see who we appoint as coach and whether he sees a role for him.

Rodan. Uncontracted and looks done. Cross would fill exactly the same role too, midfield mentor but not necessarily regular 22.

Where are the people that shot this down as a stupid suggestion when I brought it up moths ago?

Impeccible character, professional, hard worker, good leader.

Eats, sleeps & breathes footy.

Got where he is through guts and gumption, not having the greatest skill.

Won't expect to be our best midfielder, will be happy to get a spot on the list.

Professional even when forced to ply his trade in the VFL at the expense of kids.

Still capable of being a valuable contributor.

There's little downside.

Oversaturated by 2?

Byrnes and Jamar are the only players contracted for next year older than Sylvia.

Gut says yes. Hard and gets footy and is from all reports a quality bloke.

Obviously the brains trust needs to assess where he sits in terms of priorities.

Gillies is 23.

Jamar (30), Byrnes (29), Pedersen, Dunn (26), Bail (25), Sellar (24), Jetta, Gillies, Strauss (23), Nicholson, Blease, Tapscott (22), and Davis (21) make up our NQR contingent as of today with Davey, MacDonald, and Rodan retiring.

Sellar, Jetta, Gillies, Nicholson, and Davis may join the three that have already left.

I don't think it would be a massive issue to spend a few spots on the list on experienced players.

Another one is do we look at Kerr, apparently on the outside at WC. Injury prone, off field questionable but is a great player who can really gut run and show our younger guys what it really takes to make it. 'Pennant', you would know the pluses and minuses on this. Your view??

Yeah I think it would be a good idea to sign him up... He would be a lot better than Gillies at the club and bring everything that we would be hoping for, contested ball player, good attitude, good leadership, experience and high training standards especially in a line which we need help in.

Off field - Absolutley no way, have had dealings with him professionally = [censored]

On field - absolute star but the game has passed him by gave everything and certainly punched above his weight. His body has taken a hammering over the years and IMO he is just about done, maybe get half a dozen good games out of him

One year contract with a clause giving him a second if he is able to hold his spot in the team for x amount of games and passes a medical test at the end of the season?

One year contract with an option of continuing on with the MFC in a coaching or development role of some sort.

By all reports, Cross is the most professional player in the game, give this guy a purpose after football and he will repay us tenfold.

I'd love us to get Cross involved at our club, not so much as a player - but for what he can offer in terms of development.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
