dont let logic get in the way hey !! lol

we have bugger all in the decent small fwd department for 14....just saying

im with you...Nahas could be an option up front. Not desperate to get him but its an interesting notion none the less , for mine.

Nahas is one of those players that would make the ideal sub... he is very fast, not afraid of getting hurt, and is a very creative goal sneak. I have always liked his game and cannot understand the lack of love here.

Yes Nahas would be worth a look at. We have no-one like him and if we ever got our midfield working he would love being at the feet of all our tall forwards. You wouldn't pay a lot for him but h'es actualyl shown more than say Sam Blease.

Those player examples were more meant to be the guys we are currently chasing. Okay, one is outside the suggested age bracket, but most get the idea.

Why is everyone so damn picky on this site? Seems everyone reads posts to pick at grammar, punctuation and facts rather than just discuss. Starting to get annoying.

Wasn't meant to be nitpicky, just pointing it out that he is far from a young midfielder, because that is relevant to the discussion.

Not sure he's that hard at it or defensive. And you wouldn't pick up a guy just to be sub unless you were on the edge of success.

To me he's a guy we should be looking at in 12 or 24 months if we haven't sorted out the small forward role. Until then we should use our list spots for midfielders who we can develop through the forward line - guys like Michie and Lyons if we get them and our own guys like Kent, Taggert, Tapscott, Blease, Evans. Not to mention using a draft pick on a midfielder/forward who could end up much better than Nahas

yes, but in 12 to 24 months we may not have that opp again... what harm can it do to add him to the rookie list with a view to the future (how old is he?).

Only interested in dealing with GWS if it involves Dylan Shiel, otherwise no thanks. As had previously been said, to get quality you've gotta give quality.

We know that they want Boyd at 1, and are really fond of Scharenberg, well they need to rightly cough up something good for us.

Shiel or Treloar for me.

Blease is also four years younger than him.

Nahas managed 6 games at the Tiges last year averaging 7 touches and kicking 3 goals...

When he stinks it up, he makes a proper job of it. He's a kick first think second type of player, and by god we've seen enough of those. His kicking has always been ordinary and doesn't seem to have improved much over time.

I'd be avoiding like the plague, personally. We will not be improving with Nahas in the team.

You are kidding...we have done sweet fa so far

That is the point. We hold the aces, it is up to them to play for them. Valuable negotiations never get done quickly. Look at last year. We had it nearly all wrapped up in the first week and look at the duds we got.

It is a matter of who blinks first. We mustn't

Funny the way Treloar sort of goes under the radar, but he's by far the most productive of any of GWS' kids, bar Ward and he's not really a kid on that list. He's never mentioned in dispatches about wanting to come home, though.

Yep, he is a GUN

Best of their young kids.

imo, Shiel looks like an AFL player but hasnt exactly set the world on fire

I am starting to warm to the idea of keeping 2 so we can build some on-field goodwill and try and snaffle a free agent next year.

If we can find a way to get Vince, Myers, Michie, Lyons and second or third rounder across to the MFC without having to spend more than our existing picks excluding 2, and perhaps a Blease and/or a Tapscott; I think we will have done alright.

Personally I think it will come down to Trading pick 2 to GWS for Dylan Shiel. And if that doesn't go through then holding onto the pick and going after a free agent throwing them a cash offer they can't refuse.

No use in trading pick 2 for a player this year, when we could potentially snag a player that would be as beneficial next year within the free agency period.

For me it's

  • Keeping pick 2 (Aish or Freeman) or trading it for Shiel
  • Trading in Vince, Lyons, Michie, Cross (FA)

I like Peter Ryans (AFL) view on our situation.

He thinks we should target these younger 20-23 year old midfielders (Vince, Lyons, Michie) like we have, select our best kid at Pick 2 and leave the salary cap room to go for a free agent at the end of the year (ie Bryce Gibbs). There will be a few more experienced mids up for free agency next year and depending on how we go this year, we may have more pulling power if we can win more games. Actions do speak louder than words.

I don't entirely agree. It is a longer term approach, that may work out better for us. Plus it is amazing how many people jump ship when a team is on the rise and their own club isn't.

Yer I agree - I was originally sure that pick 2 needed to be traded but I now kind of like the idea of bringing in a bunch of unknown potentials (Lyons/Michie) - need to find some diamonds in the rough.

I still think though the fact is we need to see immediate improvement next year for the club, players and supporters - we need to start developing players in a competitive culture.

So if we can't get a A-grade young mid with pick 2 - then we get Aish but we then must secure some players that will be able to genuinely improve our midfield/development (Vince, maybe Cross).

Having said that we can not get more senior fringe players like Pedersen and Rodan - they need to be able to lead by example.

But I like the idea of Roos looking for diamonds in the rough (I think he has a good eye).

Don't mind it but Vince and Lyons should be pick 20/54 Michie will be pick 36 same result but more likely the asking price.

You also need to target a couple of the out of contact GWS players try to get another mid for the PSD pick 2.

Not sure we'd be able to get Greenwood with pick 72.

Any news on him by the way?

Well played.

I like it.

But if Silvia compo is band 3 - possibly use it on Jones and use Pick 20 +36 on Vince and Lyons?

Don't think I'd bother with Greenwood, if we secured the rest.

Vince, Lyons & Michie may be enough.

Might not even need Cross (but I want him).

Not sure we have that much room on our list, either.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
