What the club needs is a can do man who promotes the club has media presence, and gives this club mojo.

The last hero who have us hope died sadly.

Im definately concerned about his motives..... he is on record running down our club and even suggested merger..... But if he genuinely wants to help the club, then we won't get a better candidate...... it comes down to trust.... Im divided....

Should we take the risk? When i first heard of this.... i thought it was a joke.... Now that its real, my immediate thought was no way.... but After digesting it for a day im leaning toward yes! Why? Because its a risk we normally wouldnt take and I've got to say im a little excited by the idea.....

A while back.... Someone posted about a Seinfeld episode.... Where George decided to do the opposites to what he'd normally do.... I cant remember who? Im thinking that this decision could be the one where this applies....lol.... You just never know.....

That would be a lot worse.

The guy is an intellectual piece of driftwood floating in a 19th Century economic sewer.

He is now whoring himself around my football club looking for a gig .

One thing's for sure, it would clear up that question of what MFC stands for. !!

Then again maybe we could merge with GWS. Some satisfaction there - we could drop Scully to Casey. (Gallows humour time.)

In the end, the historians will identify the last moment when it could all have been saved, and the straw that did break the camel's back. Here we are, ready to enthusiastically embrace Jeff Kennett. Desperate, rattled, with no shame left. But, if we hold no other cards, I suppose to stay in the game we have to play this one... or can we afford to still just "hold the line" and go on as we are?

Monday night, how many of us will be reeling, exhausted, ready to give in to Jeff's offer?

What worries me is whether there will be anything original left when we somehow get a team in our colours viable again.

I for one have been amazed at the club's ability to get worse when I thought it couldn't. Besides, "it couldn't be worse" is hardly much of an endorsement.

As for Kennett, I acknowledge that he would bring to the table qualities we desperately need; leadership, strength and a history of getting it done. I also acknowledge that nobody else seems to be putting their hand up. I just hope we are able to find those qualities without turning to a self interested, divisive loudmouth like Kennett. Other suitable candidates must be out there.

I believe the President should live and breathe the MFC.

The person should NEVER bend over to the AFL like the current one did after the $500,000 fine for employees wanting to Tank. That was embarrassing to want and set the tone for this season's on field performance.

Having been the President for Hawthorne FC and clearly loving that team, why would he even suggest taking on the same role in the MFC.

He may have many good qualities or not depending on your political beliefs, but to me he is missing at least one essential item. His heart does not beat true for the red and the blue.

Many will have their opinions as to the next best person who should become the President but to me I want a MFC person to lead us to glory, one that can unity the members and supporters of this once great Club. There would be many wonderful choices from within the MFC to pick from, so why look elsewhere.

I am of course willing to expand on what I was trying to say in short when I initially posted and thought was reasonably clear.

I am terrified of what appears to me to be the simplistic view of so many DL posters (and others) that we must have change and the first person who puts his hand up must be the very person who we so desperately need.

I would far rather canvas options. Have input from the new CEO. Not just hail the first very large mouth who is willing to put himself up for the job as the very thing needed.

I personally do not believe that Mr. Kennett is the great saviour and short term fix so many are desperately searching for. I say this because for among other reasons:

• His lack of political judgement in losing an election even more "unloseable" than that famously lost by John Hewson years before.
• He managed to do this in large part by his devisive and self centered view that he is the only person to whom questions of policy must be made. It is this lack of inclusiveness that I fear is not for our club.
• He has said Melbourne should merge
• He has said Melbourne should locate
• As President of a football club he has critisized his own coach

• As indicated on this forum he is a divisive character and now is not the time to put such a person in this position

He does have benefits of course including:

• He is a noise
• He expresses himself openly and would receive airplay and publicity for the club
• He has contacts with the "big end" of town and may bring in some money.

Having said that, this is not an option I would leap at. Just because change is vital and will come, it need not be the first option that is taken and unless the club gets important decisions such as this right, its future will not even last the limited years I am further allotted on this planet.

I will look but would not be surprised if he is not present on Monday

That's governance?

Can we see worse than what we have now? We've had them.

I only have to look at signature to know that we need to be prudent in our decision making. I see benefits to a "rolls up the sleeve" kind of guy like Kennett, but he may not be the answer. Much more information is required before we flippantly endorse anyone. But ridiculing the guy and fobbing him off with the wave of a hand also doesn't make sense for the same reasons.

I for one think getting jeff in is a good idea.

His comments regarding the club were made when he was the president of another club, although I'm sure he will stand by what he said.

Who cares if he doesn't know the song?

Who cares if he supports another club?

What I care about is his ability to put in place a top line board, to attract big name sponsors, to get us a big name coach (or support Neeld...?).

Jeff can do all that and then some, there is no one else who is putting there hand up...
