MFC board meeting - 12 PM

What

Recommended Posts

Yep, pretty much my thoughts, until... Reports that Watts, Sylvia, and Frawley, want out. Neeld, is not able to sell them the vision, and we simply can't afford to lose these key players , especially Frawley. His loss would be devastating.

Going on what happened yesterday, can you really believe what the media says?

For all we know, these guys love the club and don't want to leave.

Anyone else think that Lyon was talking rubbish last night...he thinks the board is playing a dangerous game, "what happens if the club starts winning games" he says. Well good Gary, that's the whole idea.

Lyon will be well aware that his influence at the MFC is fast diminishing, and that he will use his position in the media as a platform to voice his disappointment.

And I bloody love it!

Would love to know how many posters were calling for "Gazza" to be coach. Sheesh.

Haha, yeah. What a catastrophe it would be if we started winning.

There is one, at least a phrase: yellow journalism. Unfortunately it still includes the word journalism, which is probably not all that relevant to the people you might have in mind.

And there I go, attributing them with some humanity by calling them people.

"scribblers"?

"the fourth estate"?

"the go-forthers"?

The Board meeting held yesterday was but one instalment and the beginning of a number of changes which will occur of the ensuing weeks. To make and announce a series of changes after just one Board meeting would give the appearance of a seriously destabilised club. No-one from the administration was going to come out last night and announce a series of significant changes, which rightly should be kept in house as much as possible.

There is much going on behind the scenes, but change will occur in the not too distant future.

Does the change include the coach IWS?

If we're dealing with the opposite situation though, I'd be hoping for a Mark Williams/Junior McDonald announcement before this year's trade period.

I'd be hoping for Humphrey B Bear/Fat Cat personally RB!

Could they do any worse?

it would be the most incredible rise from the dead ever seen in any sport in the world if he can get through all this.

It would be Bomber Thonpson like if it happened.

If PJ has told the board that it would be wrong to sack the coach for now I'll respect that as it seems he has said the non competitive games have to stop.

I'll stand by my decision that I don't think he can coach at this level. I'll wait and hope he proves me wrong.

Agree.

Mind you, he was given time.

3 ordinary years.....

He was indeed. But there was a much bigger upside for the GFC and its administration, as well as a well planned FD. Not too mention that it is perhaps the last Victorian team which has a truly loyal geographical base. Unfortunately, we do not have the same luxury and time is running out.

When Thompson was struggling one thing they did was put in a good football boss, Balme. It's the first part of our puzzle.

True - not to mention all those outrageous father/son picks in the 4th round....

Yesterday i believe Jackson put the Football Department on notice.

Neeld is hanging on by a thread, but the CEO has given him a chance.

Neil Craig will be even more important now.

If the players like "Neeldy" now is the time to prove it.

As Glen Jakovich said last night on Radio. It is now time for the players to go to work. Hard work.

Which ones are they? (Nb not being a smart ass, just don't recall there being so many, and the ones they had, even Gaz Jr, weren't considered Top 10 picks anyway).

Ablett, Scarlett, Tomahawk...handy trio right there.

arguably best midfielder and full back I've seen, and Tomahawk structurally very important to their third premiership.

anybody consider the board appointed neeld to do ajob and rebuild from the basement upwards and at every report given to the board agrees that the fd is doing as the boards requirements?

just because the press want a scalp doesnt mean its us to give to them matter of fact if things get better they can lay siege to the lions and eagles

was rapt the board did what they expected to do yesterday and what neeld said they would do

How long do we have to wait for the changes to take place?

The longer it takes the worse position the MFC get in.

The beltings cannot continue for many reason which have been stated previously and it seems like its taking an eternity for change to occurr.

I know I am impatient at the best of times but this is really getting on my nerves.

I will also add that I love this Footy club and its tearing me apart what is happening atm.

your right big fella the beltings have to stop, sooner rather than later

being impatient is a major problem for you, so take up smoking or pretend you barrack for brizzy and this should relieve your impatience, if not take 2 bex and call the doctor in the morning

Three big names as mentioned by Ray Biffin...Mark Blake was in there somewhere.

The point needs to be added that these players came to them with low picks, that allowed them to use their higher picks elsewhere.

They have a shrewd recruiter as well.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
