MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

I hate Hawthorn more than any club in the competition and by a long way. I dislike there supporters, in fact the only two times I have come close to belting someone at the footy was last year against Hawthorn when some low life got into the trident reserved area with his mates and got right on our faces and my brother who is a Hawthorn supporter after Jimmy ran across the mark.

The underlying issue I have with Hawthorn is that we the MFC are their Bi..hes, their whipping boys, they own us and have done for some time. We talk about '87, the '88 through the early 90's and especially over the past 9 years. 2004 they sucked winning 4 games beat us round 1, 2005 Hawthorn Sucked winning 5 matches, they beat us, 2006 one year we smashed them and this would be the last win over them, the loss round 1 2008 was smashing, they destroyed us and basically have done so every game since. 2011 we had them at half time to be absolutely smashed in the third quarter. This week if they decide to beat us by 120 points they will.

We move into Sunday, I will be their but unless our team can show some sort of fight It could be only for a very short time. The Biff is out of the game but we need to start something in the first quarter, all in just hopefully may fire us up and get them off there game. Hawthorn in 2008 played unsocial football, every chance they had to stick an elbow in your ribs and annoy the crap out of you the did, this is what we need to do. If it gets heated so be it a few fines, god knows our players haven't deserved their full match payments over the past 9 weeks anyway.

I heard Dermie talking about the Hawthorn/Essendon game I believe 2006 or 07, the frustration on the past players was the Hawthorn had become Esseondons Whipping boys, they still got beaten that game but the next they won and haven't lost to them since. It was the turning point for that young inexpereinced Group.

Hi D Drake,

best way to shut these types up is to wallop Hawks on the Park. It's the only way. Have a really great friend and business associate who in his spare time runs AA meetings throughout Victoria and Indonesia. Hi Jim! Being a Hawk Supporter he's extremely unlikely to visit this site. Could not get a nicer bloke. Dees have some shocking supporters as do all teams.

Lets hope we Whip the Hawkers this week!!

Magner is a puzzle. I can accept Gawn being Gawn for the moment. He's struggled more each week he's played. Needs a break to freshen up and get his mojo back.

Jamar struggles year on year .

Max has a go , and then another , actually affects general play .

Anyway-Neeld is from another planet .

Any forward will struggle in this team because of the crud we call a midfield. Fitzy will have to get his touches in the ruck because he will have no chances up forward.

Dear Mark Neeld,

Each week I question you a little more.

This week you've managed to somehow drop Gawn, who is a glimmer of hope in the dark hole you've created.

This week, I officially declare you delusional.

Also James Magner sends his love.

Regards,

Jaded.

Hi Jaded

Agree with your sentiments. Unless Gawn has a sore knee we have to keep playing him. Agreed he's not setting the world on fire but who is?? Why choose Gawn as the whipping boy. Poor indeed. Magner I agree while determined as hell really lacks the class to be a long term option. Haven't seen the team yet but hope they try something new like taggert or give Couch another go.

Hate to break the bad news but Dawes is and will always be an absolute Dud. He's endeavour is not bad. Can't mark overhead anymore and slow like a wombat. Just cant' get the big money recruits right from the Norsworthy and Tilbrook days till now.

wb biff. we need Gawn to fire up in the ones not twos. actually think he's better value than Dawes. Dawes cost a hell of lot more.

FB: Terlich Frawley Garland
HB: Strauss Pedo Dunn
C: Evans Jones Jones
HF: Tapscott Dawes Howe
FF: Davey Fitzy Watts
Foll: Jamar McKenzie Trengove
INT: Rodan, Nicholson, Bail, Kent

Emer: Spencer, Sellar, Macdonald

OUT: Byrnes, Magner, Sellar, Gawn, Jetta
IN: Kent, Rodan, Pedo, Fitzy, Strauss

Ok maybe it's just me but if the final team lines up as I have it then I think it's pretty reasonable selection. Sellar is replaced by Pedersen can't argue much with that. Byrnes (regardless of injury) for Kent for some youth. Magner for Rodan is a like for a like and whilst Magner is stiff we know our midfield is rubbish so we have to try something. Magner just hasn't done anything creative at all it's just jump on the footy and hope he's got a runner to help him out. Then Strauss back in because he's in our best 6 defensive and push Nicholson to a wing where he can use his fitness and therefore leave our more dangerous forward in the forward line. That results in Jetta out which is fine by me he has always struggle to impact games up forward.

The one decision I don't like is Bail still in but if Byrnes is injured and Jetta isn't really a forward who else do we have? The only name at Casey is Taggert and he's probably not ready yet.

Oh and before I get Fitzy will come in and replace Gawn and that is fine as well. Neeld (especially with such an overpowered midfield) wants more run and pressure from forwards so isn't going to play Gawn, Jamar and Fitzy. We've got Watts and Howe as mobile targets up forward anyway. For all those talking about Gawn being dropped are probably the same hippocrits who profess love for Geelong's system of development through the VFL. We all know big Max is an important part of the future but he isn't ready yet. He came in with a heap of energy and vigour and has lost that and isn't finding the ball when forward and in the ruck isn't contributing a lot either. Jamar continues to give our midfield first use of the ball and is mixing up his hit points and tactics. Yes he's not contributing around the ground but neither was Max. Let's give Gawn a few weeks in the VFL if he stars he can then take Jamar's spot with confidence not a we had no one else style promotion.

Disagree to an extent. Jetta has really not done much to prove his worth. Not that Nicholson really has, but he's quicker, better defensively and despite the fact he is not a very good user of the footy, at least he gets it.

In terms of Bail, I don't think he's even in the top 30 at our club, and that's really saying something. He's awful.

No no no...Jetta all the way.

Cost is irrelevant. What's the point. Dawes was very good against Richmond then held by the best defense in the league against Freo. Max hasn't touched the ball in a month.

Jetta!!

obscene! Jetta has skills and has a red hot go. POOR

Skills? like the two drop marks in the goal square the last two weeks? And he has a go when the ball is near but can't find any space. Which tells me he's a defender, let's reload him at Casey. It's his fault for getting suspended.

High performance by rear-end. If I see Pederson on Franklin that'll be it.

Wouldn't mind seeing him have a go for some part. Have to work out whether he has any future in the role or not.

Gawn didn't get a single kick last week. Not one.

There needed to be changes after Freeo. There have been.

In 7 games, Jamar has had 20 kicks.

20.

Not once has he had more than 6, twice he's had 1 and one match he had zero.

He has taken 14 marks.

14.

He's had 2 games where he hasn't taken a single mark.

Disgusting.

I'm as big a fan of Jetta as anyone, but how anyone can say he doesn't deserve to be dropped is a bit beyond me. Let him find his mojo again back at Casey.

How many players in that team would get a game in a top 8 Afl side??? One of the worst teams I have ever seen.maybe 8 players, 10 at absolute max!

Oh man, you were so close!

Don't you know you're supposed to call it THE worst team ever? That's what we do on this board.

Every...bloody...week.

For most part it not only resembles shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic but on the 'S.S. Minnow" as well!

Gee if only Fitz and Kent actually played?!! But nar Stuff progress,it will probably be... lets just stick to Nicho, Spencil, Sellar, and the "Elite Disposer" Strauss!

Even though not a Magner fan, gee he came in and picked up some excellent possesions the week before last and Now..
Cast Off..

How the hell do you build any sort of confidence when one week in next week or so OUT??

Rodan, he must feel like a passenger in an express train that only goes from Richmond to St Yarra with a dodgy Myki card in a carriage load of ticket inspectors!!

Pederson et al but only slightly less so!
I will almost bet its in this week and out the next!

Jetta (if uncontracted) will be lucky to remain on the list. We have so many sub-par footballers it's terrifying.

The ones we have above par are so bereft of confidence it's frightening.

Looking back at 2010 I honestly cannot believe it's come to this.

We shouldn't have knifed Mcdonald.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
