Come on Old Dee, lets roll the dice on this one. Hoping we keep Davey on in some for of ambassador role with the club and maybe he could take young Dayle under his wing.

We are lacking in the excitment factor big time and I want a reason to go to the footy again.

So what I'm getting here is that Garlett has great foot skills, great pace and is suspect in his application and effort and is prone to switching off for periods oft he game and letting his opponent have a free run away from him. Honestly, it sounds like he'd fit in perfectly at the Dees.

Him having both pace and foot skills means he would not fit in at all with us RM!!!

We have plenty of pace and footskills. Watts, Blease, Strauss, Davey. All quick players with good kicking and questionable application.

To be honest RM, I was only having a cheeky dig, nothing serious.

I do worry about your list however; one who doesn't know if he wants to stay or go, one who averages 7.5 touches a game this year (just checked that on footywire, wow thats minimal), one who wasn't getting a game (injuries didn't help) and the last who is retiring at the end of the season.

I actually think raw pace is slightly over-rated in our game anyway, obviously its an advantage but when the ball is kicked its clearly moving quicker than those chasing it. It's really that ability to get the ball at full speed and think quick.

I have never had the priviledge of watching Dayle play but he sounds like a great prospect, if he wants it. If he has the skills which people continue discussing, hard at the pill and some hunger than I am all for him

I agree, and I would love us to grab him if he drops to late second or third round. I'm not sure I'd be using a high pick on him.

Why does this matter? The insistence on drafting squeaky-clean choirboys is a large part of the problem with our drafting from the last few years. We have players who are great at chatting with little kids and kicking at practice, but who can't stand up for themselves in a real game and have no fight to them at all. I couldn't care less if he goes out and gets drunk after a win as long as he plays like a demon on the field.

Reckon he'll end up at Essendon.

Now that they're out of the first two rounds of this year's draft they might consider him a good prize at pick 55 or something and, in some way, compensation because if you put his image at a side, he's probably a top 10 pick.

He also trained with them before last year's PSD and rookie drafts.

Yeah it's unlikely we'll look at Garlett.

I am a massive fan of his skills - as I am sure many of football fans are.

IMO he was the most talented footballer behind Menzel last year - not to confuse that with the best all round player, but skills wise Menzel and Garlett have that in spades.

Here's the thing with Garlett, obviously clubs want to get him psychologically assessed because it's clear as day he has some type of disorder.

Yet Garlett not allowing this will only further force clubs to overlook him.

My tip to Dayle, embrace the process and shift towards trying to rehabilitate yourself, clubs will appreciate that.

Follow in the footsteps of Iron Mike, be openly vulnerable you will be embraced as a result, but be stubborn and you'll end up like Jurrah.

These things aren't mutually exclusive. How about players who take behaviour and recovery seriously *and* are okay with the kids at clinics *and* play like demons on the field? Just an idea.

Not sure where in the draft he will go, very hard to judge but if Sylvia leaves i imagine we will get a pick between 20-30 as compo

we need to have a serious look at using that pick on Garlett, if it's after pick 25 players like durmont and dunstan will be gone, has kicked 44 goals this year, several 5 goal hauls, small forward we are screaming out for.

Have we had any luck with that so far? I'd be thrilled if we could pull a few like that into the club, but if it comes to a choice I'll take a legitimate hardnut over another "skillful player who shows great leadership."

He will go first round, maybe we can pick him up with pick 20. Maybe we can convince him to nominate for the psd and pick him up there.

I last saw Garlett play in the elimination final against East Perth two weeks ago and TBH I wasn't overly happy with him. He kicked 3 goals and started well but seemed to lack intensity when the game lifted a notch.

To be fair to Garlett, Swans big forward Geappan went down early which affected Swans ability to hold the ball inside 50 as East Perth rebounded very well. Embley provided a contest in the forward 50 when Geappan went down but really after that Garlett didn't provide to much around the contests but hard to judge him on this game. When he had the ball he did the right things and as expected all disposals by foot were perfectly weighted.

I know he is not the type of player to do this but given the strides he has taken this season I would have thought with the sides season on the line he should have put his hand up and found his own ball and provided more. I wouldn't hold this game against him, it is to be noted he failed to meet the lift in intensity over the 4 quarters but due to circumstances on the day some of this was out of his hands.

For me he is worth a risk this year but I would take midfielders with our first and second pick and PP if we get it. If he is there with our third take him. Roos and the Footy Dept have forgotten more than I will every know about footy and if they have faith they may take the gamble on him with second round pick because there is plenty to work with. He does not have Lewis Jetta's speed but he is better skilled by foot and on a smaller scale Garlett's improvement in attitude and overall fitness this season to last is similar to that of Lewis Jetta from 2011 to 2012.

Best of luck to Dayle in the AFL he has been consistent all year and I hope for his and the sake of all footy fans he continues to take steps forward and improve
