Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In my opinion has played exceptionally well the last two weeks down back. I really like him as a player but don't think he is suited to the forward line.

I'd really like for him to stay back, but is there room for Watts, Frawley, Garland, T. Macdonald and Sellar?

I believe Neeld really wants Watts down there for his disposal but I hope he doesn't move Sellar forward again.

I don't think he has been exceptional, but solid. He is pretty reliable in the contest and I agree re the forward line, he is rubbish when put there. Keep him down back and I think he has a future as a depth player, providing back up for Frawley, Garland and TMac.

Sellar was good, but.... Vickery still had quite a few reasonable shots on goal that he missed. Now with the delivery he was getting he was always going to get some but I'd say it was a good average performance from Sellar.

He needs to get involved in moving the play out from the backline more as well. He should be a target from the kick outs when he's playing tall defender because whilst he struggles to mark he can bring the ball to ground.

I don't think you can play Tom McDonald and Sellar. At the moment Sellar has that position. McDonald's defensive work and kicking undid all his hard running to create and therefore I think he should earn his spot back at Casey. Dunn is looking good in the third tall spot with Garland the versatile tall/small. Watts is fighting against Terlich (who is playing super footy) and Strauss who is doing well defensively and using the ball when he gets it just not getting involved enough.

You can throw Watts in as the 7th defender and either drop Nicholson or play him entirely on a wing - ie. he takes Toumpas' spot. But in that case one of the 7 defenders has to play more midfield time. I'm not sure whether you'd use Watts on a wing or Strauss/Terlich or Garland even. You could actually play 7 defenders are give all 4 I just mentioned some time on the wing depending on their opponents. I'd be interested to see if Strauss can get more ball if playing up on a wing. He's just not finding space when he's doing a good job of defending but then staying very central and not bursting out for the ball. Then again he also doesn't call for it in bad situations like Nicholson does and isn't afraid of playing building slowly not at a million miles a minute. Terlich is the one who looks ready made for some time in the midfield but I don't want to ruin what is a good thing down back.

good debate point

i think alot of people had his papers marked and thought he was another mistake

i seem to be prepared to understand the board giving up on plaster rebuilds and going for the real rebuild

one of the musts on the list was to develop young players in ressies until ready to step up with matured bodies

to get to this we needed list fillers who could come in and do a job

he has filled this requirement and the fd has get some credit for this

reading other posts from way back, this is one area WE MAY BE IMPROVING with the level of ressie players waiting to get in the team

Sellar was good yesterday but no as good as previous week. Played well on Vickery one on one but Vickery was too quick on the lead and should have kicked 3. I dont think him playing there affects where Watts plays though. Entirely different role.

Agree - a great depth player replacing Warnock and probably means we can get rid of a fringe player like Joel Macdonald.

We seem to now have an over abundance of backman - Joel Macdonalds nearing his end does he offer any leadership or needed qualities?

We need to free up spots for mids next year and if Sellar cements his place as a good depth backman than we can get rid of one of them.

Sellar playing back is a perfect opportunity to push watts to the wing or half forward

Couldn't agree more, only thing we miss with Watts out of there is his disposal.

I think hes great in the backline, Made Vickery play up the ground to get his possessions and did very admirably

Greg Denham is a big fan lol.

he is not a liability in defense but can be elsewhere. He is slow even for a big man. But in defense he is ok. All he has to do is punch it.

Has a very odd body shape - similar to Dawes before he came to us. I think if he slimmed down a little like Dawes did he would be quicker and more agile. Too top heavy I think.

Is there a matchup for him this week? I didn't watch the Freo game, so I am not sure who they played forward. But they seem to get a lot of goals through Mayne/Ballantyne/Walters. Frawley may get Mayne, or though he works pretty hard up the gorund. Then Garland may get Ballantyne, and Nicho on Walters.

I think McDonald should be tried at centre-half forward while Mitch Clark is out. Jack Watts should be moved to the wing so that he can provide that all-important kick into the forward line. This is where we fall down so often, and having one of our best kicks there should make things a little easier for us.

Sellar's only viable position is in the backline, and he should stay there no matter what.

I think Sellar is playing well at the back I watched hinm closely on Sunday Backs himself and worked very hard

If we must have Watts in the team put him on a wing

Ive seem him do some good things. But unfortunately his attention span is about that of a goldfish 7 seconds.

IMO is behind McDonald and Frawley. Different role to Watts, so no issue there. Garland is more versatile.

Whatever we do with Sellar, I just hope it doesn't involve continual switching between back line and forward line. We need to decide what he is and stick to it. On the evidence of the last two weeks, he's a defender, not a forward, and given we have Clark and Hogan to come in to support Dawes, I don't see the need for another tall KPF to get a go.

Thus, he plays as a defender until McDonald is ready, and then he has to show he's better than McDonald to keep his spot.

There are many contenders for that award but I don't think Sellar is in the running. He is solid, just not up forward.

I still remember that first quarter against the Roos two years ago when Newton had like 10 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 2.2... I thought it had finally clicked for him but then he did nothing for the rest of the year and was delisted at the end of the season. He was rubbish.

Wouldn't mind at all if Tapscott went to Ballantyne and laid him out in the first quarter.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
