MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

Nicholson, Tapscott and McKenzie were never going to be dropped. All three were (unfortunately) among our better players last week. Nicholson was our worst of that bunch, but he still ran and delivered the ball as well as he can.

Rohan Bail is the one that really needs to be dropped, so from the list WJ provided I'd say the ins and outs will be:

So we continually allow Nicholson to miss his targets by 5 metres, and thats OK? His mediocre disposal and lack of awareness is appaling, he wouldnt get a game at GWS at the moment, yet we continually endorse his ordinariness with repeated selection.

Tapscott had 7 posessions and didnt score playing as a forward last week, love to know how he figured anywhere near our best.

And I agree that Bail should be dropped, 8 lousy disposals at 50% efficiency was a very poor outing

Tigers play a fast hard running footy. I don't think they are massive hard bodies. Especially with a few outs like tuck and maric! Toumpas should be ok.

I just don't get nicholson. Turn over machine who doesn't man up and also dogged a contest. I know he runs but everything else he stuffed up!

I doubt Trenners will play that will likely save Bail. I don't see a need for Spencer (unless Jamar out) or Davis.

Watched a different game to me Chook. Nicholson was awful, got beaten all day and continually looks lost. What did McKenzie do to earn the title of one of our best? I honestly don't remember him doing anything. He did lay 3 tackles, so by current standards that probably earns him a recall, but he's still utterly useless in attack.

Tapscott applied a lot of physical pressure last week. He caused about six or seven turnovers, and to my mind actually played his best game of the year.

Nicholson is the very definition of NQR, but he does the things we accuse our players of not doing every week. He runs hard, he tackles and he provides options for his team-mates. His work rate counteracts his pathetic disposal, but I'll grant you that the minute our more skilled players run and present like him, he will be straight out of the side.

About McKenzie, he's also a representative of that group of pathetic but hardworking footballers that we have to play every week. I will say on his behalf that he was involved in 2 of our goals last week, and because he plays hard on his man he rarely allows them to collect clean possessions.

McKenzie doesn't hurt us. He doesn't help us much either, but unfortunately there are players (like Blease for example) who help us a lot, but hurt us more with their poor pressure and over-eager turnovers.

I'm guessing Jamar is 50-50 and might be a late omission. Otherwise Spencer being on the extended bench with both Gawn and Jamar listed on the ground is a slap in the face to Fitzpatrick.

Im hoping the bench ends up as; Magner, Davey, Davis (may as well see what he can or cant do) with Kent as the sub

I agree. We've seen what Spencer has to offer; now let's see Fitzpatrick's wares. I'd say that Jamar will miss, and that we'll have to sit through another week of Spencer. Oh well...

Neither of them could hit the side of a barn with a howitzer.

When these two cannot get a game we will have an improved side.

There is not another team in the competition that would give them a game.

Their disposal is deplorable.

I agree DemonWa after umpteen years on the list it is time to give him a game.

Just don't expect much in the disposal stakes.

He honestly makes Nicholson look good.

I'm sure it's been covered before, but why, after all the hoopla about Dunn being reinvented as a backman, including an interview with him on the club website where he goes into detail about how feels he has found a new home and is slotting in nicely into the defensive group, and after playing there the entire pre-season, why is he back to being named in the half forward line?

Good question. I don't think the team sheet has much bearing on the real match-ups, but I think his best footy is played as a tagger.

Surely Trengove won't play. One week back from a calf isn't enough time. I can't say we desperately need him considering his form is woeful. He must be carrying something apart from a calf so why not play him for a half at Casey then a full game at Casey the next week? Confidence and being healthy are what JT needs. We and he don't need no form and a broken body jogging around every week.

He's obviously on the same 'development program' as Trengove. Play him in various positions to teach him about the game.

FIIK but if he takes a few grabs and sends through a barrel from 60m out I won't be whinging.

What a balls up of a side. I cannot for the life of me understand playing Jamar ahead of Fitzpatrick and Nicholson and Mckenzie were truly horrible last week. Please don't tell me one of Blease or Taggart couldn't get a run. Who the flock are selecting these uneven travesties?

Beyond being a truly shite team, we're also saying to young blokes doing well at Casey that we'll re pick older blokes who can no longer perform. Dismal.

I feel for Jack Fitzpatrick. They guy has been in our best three weeks running at Casey and still not even a spot as an emergency in a side that's crying out for another tall forward.

I don't. I reckon the guys been lucky to be on an AFL list since he was drafted. And at the moment we need Dawes and Gawn more than him and don't have near enough run to to play another tall. He's playing well but hasn't set demanded selection.

I felt for Magner. One more big game and I might feel for Fitzy but I think he'll also get his chance then.

Backman, to tagger to CHF....

Whats this talk of consistency coaches keep talking about?

Actually, if he plays in the forward line, it's been forward to tagger to backman to forward to backman to tagger to forward. I'm assuming that sooner or later, one of the bloody coaches on the revolving door that is this club will work out that he's not good enough to play in any position. What's the bet that we get a new coach for next year and they keep him on though, just to see what they can make of him?

Knowledge is gleaned in a couple of ways, one by gradually observation and analysis, the other by intuitive perception. One in not necessarily more accurate than the other. Some are better than one than the other.

Two many have intuitively gleaned that we are a mess.

Just print out for me another team of any era that has suffered such disastrous defeats in a row like we have.

This is not just bad form, this is disaster.

In my opinion the catch is that Neeld has done some good things, but they have distracted some from taking seriously the disastrous results of several poor decisions and the inability to coach beyond set structures. He lacks the essential intangible ingredient that the best coaches have.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
