Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

If Mitch is unable to play next week do we bring Spencer in to play in the ruck and put Jamar down forward. I'm just thinking that in the past Jamar has been an excellent mark and kick for goal and giving him a break from the centre bounce may be the opportunity for him to find that flair that seems to have gone missing this year.

Who comes in for JV - Macca. He could tag Moloney all game. Hold his arms down so he can't point.

No. Mark did once kick 5 goals against Carlton from 6 possesions but this has created all sorts of myths about his potential as a forward. He was good today.

Think Setanta's five today.

I know Barry Prendergast for the most part was a horrible recruiter who fluffed most of our prized early selections.

But he found an absolute gem in Jeremy Howe.

Let's hope we get to see the kid in September one day because he's a marvel to watch and (I predict) would be a big game player.

That running mark and goal from 50 on the boundary when the game was still in the balance. Superb!!

Happy to say I was wrong about Howe - while everyone was salivating about him last year I though he was a one trick pony who could take a grab but not much more. I felt he had to begin hitting the scoreboard. Well this year I feel he has lifted another notch and is able to hurt teams with his disposal up the field and kicking goals as well.

Evans: hadn't seen anything in him until today, he was superb.. same goes for Tapscott, apart from the two shocking shots on goal. Byrnes was excellent too.. MJones, Terlich, big maxy, Bail even Pedo did a few quality things.. there is nothing more pleasing than seeing these second shelf types prove themselves

I can't believe people aren't more pumped, 12 goals in a quarter without Clark and Dawes, dodgy video reviews, dogy ump calls, some shocking luck (eg the ball bouncing striaght over tommy mac to setanta) some stupid frees/50s against Clark and Jetta, we should have won by considerably more than 41. We also conceded 5 goals in 12 minutes in the second when they completely lost focus.. but they got it back big time. Playing what is likely to be another winless side next week, let's all stop wallowing and get fired up

I'm pumped and didn't even see the game! Rapt they selected Gawn.

Maybe we could blame Frawley's poor form on Watts - they do seem to be very close now ....... maybe Watts softness is contagious!

Spud, Howe and Watts are close. This is good. Great to see Sylvia'a passion after the match. Every team needs a scallywag or 3.

Watts is not soft. As Lloydee keeps reminding us this kid should be selected every week regardless. Watts will be a champion in two years.

I strongly disagree - we should not be giving games to players on the basis of 'potential'. Players should have to earn their spots and I think this is probably partly the reason for our poor culture.

Neeld has two options:

1. send him to Casey until he can show consistent good form for 3-4 weeks (with aggression)

or

2. Keep him in AFL for 4-5 weeks in the hope that he shows some form

He should not be coming in and out of the side. I would go with sending him to Casey - show him that he needs to change his attitude/performance

Neeld made the assistant coaches leave the huddle early.

He got the players in real close - the rest is history.

Couple of observations:

1. Quite a few players sought out Scully to shake his hand....I hate him, but [censored], he knows how to run to space.

2. Moloney was BOG in the North game for fingerpointing....what a disgrace.

Went hard and courageous. He didn't get that much ball, but he took some good contested marks, used his body really well and had some very nice i50s. Should have had two goals as well, but he seems to have a bad case of the yips with his set shots lately.

I must say I can't see any elite skills from Luke Tapscott. One of the major reasons he was recruited was for his hard body and his long accurate kicking. So far all I've seen is sure someone being hard at it but at a pretty below average pace. As for his kicking today, it was below school boy standard. He is a top twenty pick, and at the moment is not up to league standard. Edited by Dees2014

I'd rate Byrnes among our best today.

His ability to get in the right places, present all day and ability to bring others into the game is really important. He also kept us in the game during the middle two quarters.

He's a great pickup for the club and at 27 I think still has at least a few years to give, both on and off the field.

I'll save you the trouble of looking up his stats:

23 possessions (12 contested) at 78%
3 goals
8 marks
4 clearances

He was a chief contributor keeping us in it when the chips were down.

+ 1 yes he absolutely knows how to run and spread, in 2010 I thought he and Trenners complimented each other really well and would be a great midfield combination for years to come. But that is history now and Scully is no longer of interest to me unless we are playing GWS

You're kidding about Jamar!?!?! He is an appalling mark and very ordinary to bad kick.

Actually a couple of years ago he was marking the ball well but he seems to have lost his rhythm when he attempts to mark now and is not hitting the pack correctly and is just not getting his hands near it. Today he took a mark near his stomach which he should have taken out in front or above, he just seems to be misjudging it.

Happy with a win.

Gawn awesome! Hope it continues,

Silvia, please buddy show that 1st and 4th quarter effort some more, was great to watch.

Happy with the captains.

Watts... Some really good kicks. talented mofo, just something not right hope he starts firing because I think he is one of the most talented players in the afl at present.

JMac, Frawley not sure what's happening down back boys but let's get this working.

Anyway glad we gave GWS a good flogging, at 3rd quarter time that certainly wasn't the expected outcome.

Nice one....what odds did you get??

$4. ie 3-1, silly in a two-horse race and in such a stupidly momentum-based game which has been placed upon us.

Dawes said on MMM today he's still a few weeks away.

Pretty sure Dunn didn't play this weekend.

Watts wasn't as bad as is being made out, may stay in.

Blease was just ok for Casey, will be 50/50 but McKenzie a chance to come in.

Yeah, 2 to 3 weeks away. Bloody hopeless. How in hell can a hamstring injury take up to 6/7 weeks? Talk about a conservative approach.

He did say it was a conservative approach due to it being a repetitive injury. Said he was dying to get out there but understood it was best to take the safe approach in the long run.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
