Kent, blease, jetta and Trengove should help the mids

+ Viney and McKenzie

Certainly not all doom and gloom. If Saints weren't full strength they can't have been far off.

As I said, "last I saw".

As usual we pull it back a bit in the last quarter once it's over.

Yep, stats don't provide context and rarely tell the full story.

and some other bloke caleed Jack..... ummm..what was it again  lol

Going by the stats we matched fairly evenly with the saints.

Mel St

Disposals 291 - 292

Clearances 25 - 29

Inside 50 44 - 38

Con Pos 97 - 107

Tackles 30 - 53

Thanks mate!

Stats look ok from that, the i50 to scoring shot ratio hopefully can be rectified by Clark and Dawes, but the tackle count..... sheesh

Seemed like possies and clearances were caught up a bit once the game was pretty much over tho.

Stuie, are you ready to lauch your invective at everybody who doesn't agree we were crap today?...hope you enjoy it

Where have I done that???? Have you even read what I've been writing?

Davey apart from a 10 day period when he looked in good form seems to have reverted in the past 2 matches. Can't get near the pill.

FFS if Davey and Sylvia actually put in like 10 yr players should then we wouldn't be nearly as bad.

Thought Davey was good last week myself.

And they ARE putting in like 10 year players.... 10 year MFC players!

Non stop excuses from mfc supporters. End of the day we lost with a reasonable team. Going to be another long year.

Not the point...we didn't let them run away with it in the last, when in seasons gone by we would have capitulated and lost by a LOT more.

Not much to hang your hat on but Hardtack is right. In past years we would have lost this by much more. A tiring Melbourne kicking against the breeze in the last could have got very ugly

They also had a more full strength side out there so I will hold off on the wrist slashing for now

However, if we end up at Kardinia Park next week remind me to pack the razors just in case

Won the hitouts 39 -16 but lost the clearances 29 - 25. Something needs fixing there, I don't know if it's positioning or tap placement, but hopefully somebody is going to work overtime on it.

Davey is finished. Although that isn't news, he's been finished for years.

I only have one comment. I really do hate umpires. Is despise worse than hate ?

If by finished you mean he's finished for the pre-season, then yes, you're probably right.

But let's hold off til the real stuff starts hey, I mean Clark and Trengove haven't played a good game this NAB Cup either, are they finished?

Intresting how our leading tackler was Magner with 7, followed by grimes and Rodan with 3! EVERYONE else had 2 or less, not good enough! eveyone should atleast get 2 tackles in a full game.

I didn't see a single second of play from today, but if we were competitive in disposals (meaning we got our hands on the ball) and inside 50s (meaning we got the ball relatively close to goal), then that's an improvement on last year, where our uncompetitiveness stemmed from not actually getting our hands on the ball and not getting it inside 50 enough.

With more practice, and a full strength line up, these disposals and inside 50 numbers will translate into better performances.

In order of magnitude: hate, despise, abhor

No Tom McDonald today either. That hurts given the success he's had int he past on Big Nick.

All in all, we lost in a single quarter. Whether that is because the Saints only turned it on for one quarter or because we turned off is an interesting question. If the former, we are in for a world of hurt this year. If the latter, it's not a terrible thing.

Surely there's a 4th especially reserved for umpires...

From the members, you might hear cries of "bounders and cads!".

I am not overly happy with the result but when you see stats such as:

TOP INSIDE 50's

Colin Sylvia 6

Nathan Jones 6

Daniel Nicholson 3

Aaron Davey 3

Everyone else had 2 or less

We are always going to loss when those 4 have the majority of i50's.

I will look forward to the return of Clark and Dawes.

Our best midfielder leading inside 50's?

We lost the free kick count 23-10 and the inequality in that department has been fairly constant and telling over the three weeks of the NAB Cup programme. Of course, there's no law that you have to get the same number of frees as your opponent but if it happens often enough, then there is a problem with the way we play. The coaches need to work out what it's all about because these figures suggest we're playing one man short over the ground every week we play.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
