A couple of posts on the tanking thread suggest that Betezy, Drake and Metro Energy have just withdrawn their financial support ....presumably because our integrity has been called into question.

I note that none of these names appear on the homepage of our website any more - and that there is a conspicuous empty space in the sponsors box in the bottom right corner. At the AGM we were told that we were budgeting for an operating profit for the coming year.I wonder if these sponsors were factored into that result ( and if operating profit is before or after legal fees)

Does anyone know the status of our discussions with current and future sponsors?

They've resorted to sending out emails to Foundation Heroes in the hope some supporters may be able to bail them out with sponsors as they have previously so I'm not too confident of their abilities to attract even lower level sponsors let alone retain them. If that is the case this year and we make a loss Schwab has to go regardless of the external factors which may have made his job difficult.

lol... took one post before a 'Schwab has to go' comment.

Man with maybe the second toughest business-side job in AFL (after Port CEO), gets trolled all day, can't say I envy him.

Hope we are not the the team ACC investigating for match fixing ? :(

Hardly think so.

Most of our results in recent years have been fairly predictable and even the games the media seems to focus on in the context of the tanking allegations were games we were expected to lose anyway.

People are entitled to their opinion on Schwab.

When and if we get back on track on field then he may start to receive praise on these boards.

Until then.....

I don't mind Schwab at all. I think that he cannot be soley blamed if sponsors choose to leave. As he said at the AGM, the Board has a formula for sponsor levels and what/where they are acknowledged and we would be foolish to lower the bar. I am sure that it is the same at other Clubs. The drop-off in sponsors is directly related to the number of games we (fail to) win. You only have to look at the successful clubs vs bottom-dwellers to see who the sponsors gravitate towards. This is even more so in Victoria where we have nine Melbourne-based Clubs all clambering for a piece of the same pie! Start winning games and the sponsors will be back!

What a dumb comment. How is CS responsible for for our on field performance? Is he playing on the wing now?

No but his job is to make us financially successful, and the very simple fact is his job is made a lot tougher when the team isn't performing well and winning games. And on the topic of discussion, yes I have no doubt this tanking saga has hurt our sponsorship. Don essentially said that in his speech.

If we are to be obsolved of any wrong doing whether down the track through court, or next week we should certainly be looking for compensation.

Amazes me how little people on this forum know about the business of sport. Sponsorships are sought after by a Sponsorship Manager, and the CEO does not attend any of the meetings until its pen to paper time. Also, most deals are not renewed due to the sponsor companies budget constraints, or if the premise of the deal had been, such as brand recognition in a new market. Deals are signed for one or two years with both parties knowing their will be no renewal at contract end.

Enough with the sensationalism sack CS bs, people around her bag Caroline Wilson for being a drama queen and then follow in her very footsteps

Yeah and the sponsors keep getting off at every stop.

And based on the information from the AGM they get replaced by sponsors who will pay more.

Do you have a problem with that little man?

Yes he has problems.

The fact is this has been a theme of the current admins tenure though. I think it's fair to hold the CEO to account for that. I'm not a Schwab "hater" by any means but there has to be some accountability for the role. Whether he is directly involved in sourcing sponsors is irrelevant as the buck stops with him as the CEO. It's not about just wanting to see him gone for the sake of it but how long does he get when we continue to face the same issues year in, year out.

Our on-field situation doesn't help of course but you can't keep using that as a cop-out.

I know nothing of sponsorships for sporting teams. At a guess I would say years of losing, low crowd numbers and not a huge membership base make it as hard or harder to find sponsorships then one investigation into something that happened didn't happen years ago. In these financial times it would be a damn hard job to acquire long terms sponsors. We found sponsors last year after losing Energy Watch so let's have some faith if possible.

Withdrawn or not renewed? Big difference.

Hrm...maybe it's time to start to nudge Dad along the path...he thought about it a couple of years ago...

Please provide a detailed run down of all interactions so we can be judge jury and executioner on Schwab and the club in the sponsorship space!!!

As Schwab said at the AGM, the Club has some feelers out for Chinese organisations seeking to expand into OZ, similar to the LG sponsorship some years back! These things take time, especially when dealing with the inscrutable Chinese.

Not saying it's not true, but I'll believe it when I see it.

These 3 sponsors are no longer on the web site but Metro Solar is still on the training shorts. It must be an expense to the club to replace gear to remove the sponsors logo. Given we are only a week away from NAB cup will the club have to remove Metro from the match day strip or will Metro get some lag publicity.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
