It's worth noting that a lot of posters here (and Dee fans in general) thought we dodged a very large bullet when we failed to get Dawes last time. I know the circumstances are different, in that we also have Clark and (in 2014) Hogan as KPFs. I'm just wondering if in all the rose colored preseason hype, we are forgetting that he's really only had one half decent season (2010), in a premiership team full of class midfielders funnelling the ball to him on a plate as the 2nd tall fwd. If Clark does't play till mid year, Dawes is largely it for us, in terms of KPF.

he looked average at times when surrounded by a premiership side, who's to say he wont look a cut above the rest of his team mates at the dees?!

Was watching a replay of Pies v Dogs in last year's NAB, which provided a timely reminder of just how quick Dawes can be over the first 10-15. For a big guy he has an impressive burst of speed. He left one of the smaller midfielders for dead, collected and goaled. Was also applying very good defensive pressure.

The potential is undoubtedly there for Neeld to resurrect.

I didn't want to pay too highly for Dawes, last time around.

I didn't want to use a high pick & big money on a 2nd/3rd tall forward type.

With Clarke taking the No1 mantle, its easy to see he needs support.

I see what you are saying, yet he's on about $500k, cost a first round pick in a deep draft (pick 20) and will spend probably a lot of this season as our no 1 KPF until Clark returns to fitness. Maybe it's Dawes who needs support if Clark takes longer than expected.

Neeld and Brown know him well and rate him highly...... higher than Buckley, it appears. They aggressively sought him out which says that he must fit their plan well. I'd love him to rip open game 1 and have a really good year. He's a top bloke, from all accounts. But I'll need more than that before I get a hard on.

Apologies for digressing the thread.

A filth supporter at work has been harping on about Dawes kicking 100 goals in a season for years and years. Now he's not in the black and white he reckons he's no good....

Typical of the flith

And he probably will.

This year with any luck.

I'll wait and see on Dawes.

He has shown nothing to warrant his price tag.

Sure he is big-but we need a useful big.

Neeld will live and die by this bloke.

I reserve my judgement on him-Neeld better be right.

In answer to the thread topic.

One is for fully fledged lunatics and the other one is only for nut jobs and cranks.

Yeah, they were two sites that were based, predominantly, around the match reports of two different people - George on the Outer on Demonology, and Whispering Jack on Demonland. There were also the VFL reports of Barry from Beach Road on Demonland. They only got forums later on.

Going back further than that Bob, I believe Demonology started out as an email list or news group or something like that, and Demonland was a school project.

I was interested in him as an u-18 draftee. I'm glad we didn't take Dawes then as IMO, he's a 2nd-3rd tall.

But right now he's an experienced premiership key forward, hard trainer & clever. He didn't cost a top 10 pick & we can afford him. he helps us immediately with height & depth, & eventually, I think will play high, leading up & back.

I think Pedersen will play 'deep' & leading up,,, with Clark playing close to goal, & the occasional short stint in the ruck, when FULLY fit.

... and I'm glad we have 2 footy forums to visit, even if one is starved at the moment. it'll pickup.

In terms of Dawes. Someone has to get a higher pay. We need to pay a certain percentage in the cap. If we paid our players on their merits there would only be a handful who deserve their coin and we would be way under the cap. Yes it's overs we paid for Dawes but that is what we had to do. No one will come to us for any other oppurtunity other then dollars at the moment. Hopefully that changes in time.

Agreed. Good point. Had forgotten that cap aspect.

Sorry Dee-luded, don't agree at all with you. But like your women folk. Good distraction from from reading

I didn't join the email list and I didn't care too much for the reports (sorry Jack and GOTO, but I already saw the match so the match report wasn't as interesting), but I absolutely used to hang out for the Sandringham match reports from Barry since I was too young to drive and couldn't get to the VFL matches.

I also don't feel so old now (although I know that I'm ever so slightly older than you!!). Thanks.

Useful enough to get into the leadership group, even though he wasn't able to do full training. Obviously doing something right around the club.

It is just the Judean People's Front vs. the People's Front of Judea - splitters.

But 'land does have the ignore button, blessit!

"Where are the Judean People's Front?"

"He's over there!" :)

Breaking a self-imposed rule here (posting on a thread that is not about forum footy)...

but interested to see that the old-timers' explanations are being ignored...

I remember when RobbieF first came To Demonology...

I used to post only on Demonology...

For many, many years, it was the site that came up on google and the other search engines, so hundreds (if not thousands) of MFC supporters found their way to this site through Demonology...

a few years ago, talkingcarlton challenged us to a forum footy match, but turned up with only two players...

so we played a match Demonland v Demonology, and the boys who played for Demonology were all people who had come first to to Demonology, and found this site through Demonology...

when Demonology was functioning well, it had TGR, a poster who has almost always been banned on here, and it had a chatroom that was a lot of fun, and it had a dedicated bunch of posters who were there to entertain...

Tim (the owner of the Demonology site) chose to shut down the chatroom and sideline the entertainers to a secondary board...

The entertainers left in a huff, never to return...

but Demonology still has TGR...

As long as TGR remains banned on here (and I am not saying that is wrong), I imagine there will always be two sites...

Like anything, we are products of our environment.

Land posters think there isn't enough action at Ology, which is probably true. But judge us when the footy starts. If your benchmark of a football forum is the amount of traffic in January, then you need to go spend some time outdoors.

Conversely Ologists cannot believe the drivel that can drag on for 10 pages on this site.

I don't think there is any right and wrong - its just what you prefer. As someone in the thread said, be grateful we have the option and don't have to use Big Footy only like North and Footscray.

Is anyone able to explain why that guy has Terry Wallace as his profile pic? Bizarre.

Because he was unabashed Terry Wallace fan and after taking ribbing for many a long month about his lovechild I guess he "outed" himself by putting his pic up as his avatar.

I enjoy reading TGR's post - whilst i dont always agree with them they are always well thought out and well constructed. Some are quite outstanding - truly - just ask him, he'll tell you.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
