I think we might have tanked last year. I raised it with some other supporters and I was serious.

If we did all power to the Club, we benefited from it and got some terrific young kids in. Maximizing the value of our Scully comp picks made a lot of sense.

No point tanking this year until we know if we've got any picks.

Should we play Viney, Toumpas and Barry every single week?

If we do, are we deliberately reducing the chance of winning by playing the young and inexperienced? Or are we simply trying to fast-track the development of these kids? Or do we genuinely think they will contribute more to a win than three older, more experienced depth players eg. Joel MacDonald, James Magner and James Sellar

If we don't play these kids, are we deliberately reducing the chance of winning by holding back young elite players from the best 22 and instead playing three older, more experienced depth players? Or do we just think think these kids are not ready and should not be rushed in to the big time? Or do we actually think the older depth players will contribute more to a win than these kids?

You can see the paradox - whatever we do, anyone can sit back and apply any of the above logic to suit their argument.

I think that is the point...

But as Redleg posted - tanking is telling players to lose and we have never done that so I guess the question should be:

Should we Tank for the first time ever?...

That's the spirit.

It's a serious issue and here's hoping that instead of persecuting one club, the AFL wizens up a scrubs Rule 19 (A5) and replaces it with a clear and unambiguous definition of what constitutes "tanking" and that in the event that it has to deal with tanking, it does so without discrimination.

I'm confident that Melbourne will surprise many and get itself well out of the tanking zone so that this discussion will be moot forever more.

I'd still be watching Sheedy and GWS next year though.

Hadn't really thought about it until now 'Fan'. It depends on the old definition chestnut but in a way I think we did. Neeld wanted to have a look at a lot of players on the list before making big changes. Many players didn't deserve games on performance and others were moved to uncharacteristic positions so last season could be seen as an exercise in list management with an eye to the future.

It certainly didn't hurt us at draft time with Viney, Toumpas, Barry, Dawes and Hogan. If we didn't have pick 3 then chances are Viney would have been our first round pick, there would be no Hogan in the wings and Toumpas would be lining up in other colours, who knows what would have happened to Barry. Would we have had enough currency to trade for Dawes?

The cards fell pretty well for us.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
