Does it matter what weight he is????...If he can get the ball and use his skills....Who cares what weight is listed on what site......

i'd think the conditioning coaches would care very much (and taking appropriate action)

however there are many players who play "above" their weight, so its not necessarily the be-all, but still worthy of discussion

he's still a kid so his weight will undoubtedly increase over time

From the MelbourneFC's own website BH;

183cm 70kg.

Who would be most likely to know the height and weight of a Demons player, Big Footy, Fan Footy, the AFL or the Melbourne Football Club? #[censored]

(Nb. I put that last word there because I'm on his ignore list so he won't know what I've written.)

I'm with Bibg (above), FFS can someone ask the kid when they are at training next please.

The MFC had him at 78kg a week or so ago when I last looked so they have changed their details. It was pretty obvious to any of the observers, and many remarked on this site that he would be more likely around 68kg so 70kg seems about right.

So now would be even more time to believe the MFC website.

Interesting to see he (BH) hasn't posted on this thread since this was apparently changed on the MFC site.

Heart (hardness at the ball, work ethic, attitude)

Athleticism (speed, agility, endurance)

Skills

Brains (awareness, decision-making)

For mine these are the attributes of a player that are more important than what his height and weight are - the reason why those numbers are discussed so much is because they are readily available on a team sheet

This is one player I am looking forward to seeing play in person. Do you reckon with his (undeveloped) size he'll be able to handle the rigours of senior footy this year?

I don't think it really matters what Barry weighs at this point in his career. He will put on weight. Misson will see to that.

Barry clearly has enormous upside and seems to have the skills to compete at an elite level. That we used the compo picks we received for Scully on Toumpas and Dawes and managed to convice GWS to also allow us to draft Barry seems to have been quite a coup.

I'm happy to defer to BH on this one - given what I've read to date, I reckon he'll play some senior games this year (despite weighing somewhere between 55 and 95 kgs).

Totally agree C&B. I was literally thinking just the same thing - hence, my post above. I think you articulated it better though.

Are you for real?

He's gone off what the Melbourne website says, they have changed what they say, do you think he will continue to go off what the website says, or stick to 78kg.

One of the worst attempts to flame I have ever seen, reckon he might be one of many to have blocked you....

Looking forward to watching this kid develop

Has the look of a young Michael Aish

Has natural evasiveness makes him stand out

The last players we had like that was Flower and Alves

Spoke to Dom the other day and he said that he currently weighs 70kg with a long term goal to get to 80kg. Has already put on 4kgs since being drafted.

Also told me that the coaches want to get at least 1 game into him this year for his development.

This kid has a smart head on his shoulders and is way beyond his 18 years of age.

He is actually related to Amos Frank from the hawks.

At 183 cm and lighting quick skills I'm expecting big things from Dom.

Barry clearly has enormous upside and seems to have the skills to compete at an elite level. That we used the compo picks we received for Scully on Toumpas and Dawes and managed to convice GWS to also allow us to draft Barry seems to have been quite a coup.

If Barry turns out to be a decent player the deal will have been even better than that. It can be debated forever what we really got for those Scully compo picks but at the very least the direct trade was Hogan, Dawes and Barry. It will be argued for all time that it also included Viney being left to 26 and Toumpas being left for us at 4. Without the Scully picks according to Harrington the Club would have used pick 3 to get Viney and then we would have picked whoever was still there at 26 and if you look at the draft picks within four places either side of 26 there isn't anyone I've ever heard of. So if that logic is remotely close to the truth then the Scully picks delivered us Toumpas, Hogan, Dawes & Barry, assuming Barry is more valuable than who we would have got at 26. Barry was a NT player GWS had tied up so we wouldn't have got him without trading with them. It's a hell of a result either way. Mind you let's hope Dawes delivers and if he does we might look back and thank Chris Judd. His massive salary meant Carlton didn't have the room for Dawes who they surely need even more than we do. I'm sure if they had the salary cap room to match us he would have gone there as they are much closer to finals and Premierships than we are. For the moment.

If Barry wasn't involved in the trade, what pick would he have gone at? From what I remember, he wasn't rated a top 25 pick was he? Not being smart, just saying/asking?!

This year will give us our best indication just what we lost. I will rely on this forum to get GWS reports as I can't stand watching the little [censored]. I hope I'm totally incorrect, but when he played his 31 games for us, I was in no doubt that he would be a star, and apart from the colours he wears (and my opinion of him as a human), nothing has changed for mine. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be "that" midfielder that the better clubs have got.

That said, on paper it does look like it worked out for the best (for us), but I'm not taking it to the bank just quite yet.

We didn't use the Scully compensation on Toumpas, we used it on Hogan, Barry and Dawes. Toupas being available was an absolute bonus (as a result of our poor performance last year).

By way of comparison.

Michael Long 178cm 80kgs at the ened of his career (2001) He started in 1989 and played 24 games - can't find what he weighed in 1989...

Cyril Rioli 177cm 80kgs presently.

The reason that we managed to trade involving both Hogan and Barry is because we had two compensation first round picks for Scully, the latter one being used in the complext deal which brought us Dawes. The manouvering involving Viney and Toupas I am sure was also integral to the final outcome.

A nice perspective on what we have gained and lost. And I hadn't though of the Chri$$$$ Judd / Chris Dawes aspects that you mentioned.

If even half of the gains turn out to be good, very good or even better players, the lying, avaricious little [censored] has done us a great service.

Rioli was drafted at 74kg.

As mentioned previously, Stephen Hill was drafted at 72kg and played all 22 games.

It really gets down to Barry's mindset. If he's good enough and soft he won't play many games. If he's good enough and attacks the contest he's ready to stake a claim.

Just shows you. There's two players who's first years were as good as any. Hill was amazing at that weight. Robbie wouldn't have been more than mid 70's when he retired and he did all right.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
