2013 Jumper

I'm always interested to see what tweaks and changes the jumper manufacturers make each year. I do believe the cut and style of a jumper can be advantageous to a team (even if only small). In particular the cut of a jumper can have an impact on how easily a player can break a tackle depending on how close to the body the jumper fits. It's interesting to see that Collingwood have their own brand manufacturing the jumpers and that the players have jumpers tailored to fit their body. I am amazed it has taken a team this long to do this and surely all teams should have this option.

From the photos we have seen of training so far, the cut of the new jumper looks horrible. It's wide across the shoulders, bulky and looks heavy with lots of material hanging off the sides making it far easier for opposition players to hang on to. When New Balance first came on board they claimed to have the most "advanced" jumper on the market, well today it looks anything but.

Most people probably don't care, but with the club planning everything to the second, it would be good if New Balance could make jumpers that actually fit. I know Cameron Schwab wanted a "Gladiatorial" look to the jumpers, but this new style isn't working for me.

I'd be surprised if they were different.

I'd have thought they would be different. The training top should be built for comfort.

If you think the design of the uniform isn't important, have a look at the debate surrounding bathers in swimming competitions. Look at the tops worn at the last rugby world cup. Making a playing uniform out of basic cloth is no longer the only option, nor is it the best option. There are fabrics which are designed to reduce fluid loss, improve impact absorption and no doubt they can come up with something that is harder to grip as well. I think it is an area where a small investment could see significant returns, and I absolutely agree that each player should be in an individually tailored top to best suit their size and shape. Optimal performance in every area is the key to success. This is just another place we could be adding a couple of percent.

I had a feel of the new Collingwood jumper today and it felt great. It was a cross between a rash vest and tshirt material. If I was going to run 15ks like the players do the filths jumper is the one I'd want to wear. Material wise.

Oh my god don't tell me we have final got a red instead of pink or maroon.

If the 2013 scarf follows suit I might finally be able to retire my 2010 version.

I cannot understand how hard it has been for the MFC to get the colour Red correct.

Even though its better than the pink one , its still a bit light for me.

Id prefer it if it was a bit darker, more a blood red.

The "blood red" was good in theory, but with the materials they use these days it just didn't quite work.

Yeah, it's tough. Especially when they sweat and change what they thought it looked like, and when it looks different on the box too...

I'm with you on the materials, CB.

To me, it's more important than if we screw up the colours a few times (although lets try and get that right...). Hopefully, New Balance can get up with where the other companies are quickly.

Might want to try some mouth wash as well in consideration of that last part of your sentence :)

had me stuffed also. That they have it right now only goes to the idea they should have had it right from day one.

Thankful it is now :)

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
