I read that report over breakfast. I certainly hope the assessment proves correct but I'm not sure how you can realistically rate Jones and Terlich at that level just yet.

The article vindicates the selection process by the Football Department which is a charge from previous years. Some may question the Terlich and Jones rating but when you consider their form during 2012 it is logical. It would not surprise me to see all 5 players we selected in the draft play during the 2013 season.

Viney and Toumpas are probably a certainty for round 1 with Terlich a good chance as well. The pre-season is going to be extremely important for us to see what the culture is with this player group after 15 changes to the list.

Perhaps it is more that the journalists don't rate the rest of the list sufficiently that they think these players are a walk up start. (Not my view)

Unfortunately, the importance of this piece was undermined when they stated that the list is 'the talents from this year's draft who will have the biggest impact next season', before going to to say that Van Unen and Vlastuin will struggle to break into the side, and Daniher will play around 10 games.

What level?

It's just a list of blokes from the draft who these two think will impact 2013.

It's just realistic to pick a 22 year old who was BOG in the SANFL GF, and a 25 year old inside/outside mid with a reportedly decent engine.

I mean, if Viney, O'Donnell and co. have any idea of what they are doing - these two should be in the mix for the 22 in Rd 1.

Although, and i find it unusual , to qualify on behalf of journos I think the notion is: Of those that are draftees and play, who will have the biggest impact of having done so. i.e From those who get to play , who will we notice .

In this light the list is interesting. Mostly for mine in regard to #1 10 doesnt hurt either lol

The only thing they will have to do with Viney is make sure he doesn't break himself. If you haven't or can't get to training, watch the vision from Casey last year. We would have picked him at 3 if we would have had to. I have high expectations of him and after speaking to him I expect him to fulfill them, but then again the FD may have a different opinion on how much he plays.

We are currently overstocked with backman. He might find it a struggle getting a regular game.

We are lacking in mids and small forwards.

Terlich provides run, speed and carry out of the backline as a HBF. Some thing the list lacks. I dont see Garland and Dunn offering the run and carry the list needs

We lack backs with efficient disposal. From what I have seen he is quick, has good disposal & can play tall for his size. I see him playing off a HBF & will hopefully take Dunn or Nicholsons place in the side. Not really sure how Strauss is tracking at this stage but I'd assume he isn't best 22 at the moment.

We have a lot of backmen, but good backmen? I doubt it

We have been used to a lot of mediocre performances from out back six over the years.

Sometimes I reckon we think they are great, when in actual fact they are just fair.

How many top 4 clubs would Strauss, Garland, Nicho, Dunn & Watts walk into a backline?

Therefore we can still afford to add backmen to our list let's just see what Terlich and Dean can do.

The fact is Basset dropped him the year before as he was ineffectual, and then he puts him in the backline and flourishes and ultimately wins BOG in a GF.

Let's not eff around on this - give him the role to shoot for and see if he can execute.

I really tire of this 'he can be anything' attitude we always have with recruits.

He's 22 and was recruited for what he did in 2012.

Let's see if he can do at the next level.

He got 25 possessions to half-time on his way to the Jack Clarke Medal in the GF. He wouldn't have even been drafted unless Bassett turned his entire career around by playing him back. Melbourne want a skilled runner off the half-back flank. He has shown that defence is clearly where he plays his best footy. He will train all season with the backs. If he gets picked for Melbourne it will be as a back.

I understand you don't get this and it's not surprising.
