Saw him on ch10 sport tonight talking about his boots and he obviously copped some flak about them said he will probably have to buy a new pair but Neeldy chimed in and said mate you probably wont have to pay for them. Also had a laugh when he said about the tanking saga and said I guess I will just wait for the next story on the back page. No doubt talking about the age.

After seeing reports that Davey is really struggling and his performances over the last couple of seasons, I really can't see him playing many games at all this season. However I really hope he is offered some kind of assisstant/mentor role next year which I personally think he'd be very suited to. Seems to be a real father figure at the MFC.

I always liked Davey as a player, but i was at training last friday at Casey and his body language looked terrible, theres no way he can get through this season, hes out there for the last year of his massive contract, and he has every rite to be, i would be very suprised if the club offered him any type of role in 2014.

We all live in hope but there is no evidence to suggest anything is gonna change.

I have watched, and he has been poor. But he's not been alone in that regard.

He is capable of better, he's had issues with his body, he (like Col) has had to deal with being the stop gap player who'd be shifted around from position to position, he was also for a period the MFC player who'd be most tagged and physically targeted (not without effect), who was rarely protected by his team mates. Good players in wretched teams bear the brunt, and he's struggled with that.

He now plays a lesser role in a team less reliant on him. He now might have team mates who will support him when he is physically targeted. He may get his body right to play deep forward, where he would have played his career if he were in a better team.

To question his integrity ("Checked out a long time ago.") is offensive and unwarranted given the footy he's brought to the MFC over his career to date.

Flash may or may not rise in 2013, but he deserves our respect and compassion for attempting to.

My apologies for the lack of detail.

Please accept this as an apology. At the beginning of the session when the boys walked out they were one group introducing themselves to each of the new recruits. The persona and vibe was very positive. Colin Sylvia and Nathan Jones were very vocal and encouraging everyone to train hard. Making comments like “One chance to get it right”, “Do it for each other”, all comments were very positive and a sign of a unified team.

Mitch Clarke and Chris Dawes spent a lot of time talking with each other, laughing, High 5’ing. They seemed like they got along very well and enjoyed each other’s company.

Aaron Davey (although slowest around the park) was very vocal and every player was listening to his direction and words of encouragement.

Colin Sylvia (During a break) was having some kick to kick with Jack Watts. One of the trainers came across to put some pressure and out mark Colin (For fun), his skills were unbelievable. He had the ball on a string. His hands were so clean, marking one handed, using his body. It was very impressive.

I forgot to mention during my initial report another couple of points that stood out. During the whole day each session was timed exactly by Dave Mission. During breaks everyone broke into their respective groups (Forwards, Mids. and Back) under the command of respective coaches. What stood out is the size of the Backs and Forwards, they are big boys. Obviously the Mids are not as big, however a nuggetty bunch. During the breaks, the new recruits would run to their respective groups and listen in to the feedback from the coaches and then return to Neil Craig for some more advice.

Was at training to-day, flew down from FNQ to watch all the new recruits. Please accept my apologies if I miss anything.

Group 3 – Jack Grimes, Dominic Barry, Josh Tynan and 1 other (Don't know) – I spoke with Jack Grimes and asked why they were on modified programmes. Jack mentioned, none of them were injured. Jack and Josh are on a modified running programme to increase speed (over 5m) and increase endurance in the legs. Dom Barry and 1 other were increasing fitness and endurance due to being new to the system. Most notable - Jack Grimes was very impressive. He is strong, determined and very quick. He was very vocal towards the main group. The session went for about 1hr 30min and everyone was running well. DB then ran laps.

Jack Watts and Colin Silvia did break off for a while and train by themselves. Spoke with them both afterwards and they told me they are not injured, just getting over illness and have been told not to push too hard after being ill.

Really impressed that you actually spoke to some of the guys whose programs were modified to find out why. And the reasons were interesting. Without this, assumptions get made ("Grimes is injury-prone"; "Sylvia is lazy" "Watts is soft") which can be far from the mark.

Really 'going the extra mile' - well, thousands of miles, probably! Great report & sounds like it was well worth the effort.

Just a note, if you get to training, speak to the guys at the end of their session, they are always open for a chat, that way you get past the [censored] and rumour....

they appreciate that you make the effort to get to training to watch.......

my bit on Davey having watched three or four training sessions.....yes he is not moving like the player he was, but who knows, have seen him run laps without a problem then walk with a limp.......his kicking seems unhindered...would have thought that if there is no chance of him being anywhere near the team, they may have had a word and 'make' him retire.....can't see him wanting to play out his final year at Casey either....but his enthusiasm, experience, professionalism etc etc is priceless in a group setting.......

Just on the running I noticed that Jones was paired with Howe. In prior pre-seasons Jones was the standout runner at the Club however Howe had him measure every time. Howe looks incredible. Taggert ran with Blease and Blease kept up pretty well. McDonald and Nicholson are the elite runners followed by Bail and Trengove. Viney ran with Byrnes and were evenly matched but Viney willed his way to the front on most occassions.

Todd introduced the draftees the the admin staff and Josh Mahoney explained the drills. I remember one drill was for players to run as fast as they can for 3 minutes. A short break and repeat twice more. All players distances are measured with the best doing about 1 km then slightly less for the repeats. They didn't do this yesterday.

The big turnout also included CC talking with the fathers of some of the draftees. Matt Burgan, Tim Harrington, Matt Green from the Club, Clint Stanaway (CH9) and a Dees supporter. And as mentioned before Jack Hannath was invited to train.

Yes I have and as per a lot of the indigenous players, looks like he is gliding rather than running, built like a stick, watched him do some kick and kick and again just a smooth action...and soft hands...could be anything, but can see with the raw material why Neeld seems so pleased to pick up with the Hogan deal...and of course he had a few kicks to goal, the effortless ones glided through, when he tried to blast it, it missed wildly.....as for work ethic he didn't seem to mind what he was told to you....could be a nice little x factor
