Brock McLean's real reasons for leaving the club.

Does anyone here have a source regarding why Brock McLean left Melbourne? I clearly remember reading someplace that he left due to not liking the drive to Casey (it caused him cramps) and also due to his fear of not getting a game with Scully and Trengove in the Melbourne midfield?

I'm trying to point out to someone that his claims of leaving the club due to 'tanking' and both false and misleading.

I agree with that, and it's why I cracked the shirts when Sheahan was asked why he did not follow up McLean's comments with the appropriate questions - if tanking is so bad, why did you go to Carlton, for example - and instead waffled something about being too stunned.

Sheedy was done as an AFL coach when the Bomber got rid of him. He was appointed as GWS coach as a figure head who could get in the papers and promote a club in a very hard market. Williams was the real coach, When he realised he would not get the job, in comes Cameron. If Sheeds was the real coach he would be given time.

Yes he was overlooked at the MFC. A good choice by the interview panel.

I came into this expecting some great expose regarding McLean's departure, only to be disappointed... a simple "?" mark would have made all of the difference.

And before you get upset over my pickiness, let me point out why grammar can be important; as an example, I will use capitalisation which can stop many potentially embarrassing situations... it could be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse." or "helping your uncle jack off a horse.".

I'd like the Club to come out and state why he wasn't appointed; maybe something like "we didn't think he was up to it anymore and we only interviewed him as a courtesy in the first place because of his senility seniority".

I'm not sure how much planning would have been put into the questions McLean faced, since he was apparently a last minute replacement for some other Carlton player who was unable to attend.If only the original interviewee had been able to front up!

My understanding was that prospects short listed for the coaching role 1st round interviews had to come prepared to answer specific questions.

The 1st round prospects were Bailey, Hardwick, Sheedy, Ratten and Connolly. I think there was someone else that also fell out at the 1st round

Ratten was seen to be using MFC to up his deal at Carlton and did not go past the 1st round. Connolly was excluded early.

Sheedy came in unprepared with an attitude that you either want me or you dont and did not participate on the pre advised terms of the interview. He was excluded in the first round.

Not at all. On CVs submitted, Bailey was not highly ranked but his performance and well research answers impressed the selection committee and he moved from the back of the field to get the job.

No doubt increasing questions over his position in the team was a factor - not to mention money.

For him to come out 3 years later and highlight disillusionment with "tanking" is dishonest. Even if it was a factor - it wasn't the main factor. When he was the young player who stood to benefit by the clubs promotion of youth - he loved it - even contributed to the debt demolition

He is a hypocrite of the highest ( lowest) order
