God I hope Strauss develops into a top small running defender....

He had elite skills as a junior and we could use that coming out of the back half.

Good news. Found this bit interesting: '...He ( Spencer) impressed with his competitiveness and second efforts and, although he has a heart-in-mouth kicking style, further improvement will create much needed selection pressure in the ruck...'

Looks like no freebie games for anyone in future! All to the good.

I read it like that to.

Re-sign! FFS nearly gave me a heart attack.

Haha, Whoops. All Fixed :)

Good news, especially Bail who is a real goer. Can be a very good player IMO if someone helps him sort out his kicking over summer. Still not sold on Spencer and I'm not sure he'll make it but I'll happily be proven wrong.

I have never ever seen anything to suggest Strauss is anything more than an honest battler. Has anyone else seen "Elite" kicking skills coz I havent!

Yeah in the under 18's and occassionaly at Casey.

This is good news.

Strauss will be a gun when fit and healthy. He is a very good kick - perhaps the word "elite" might be strectching it a bit but I have seen him hit players up at Casey in a way that reminds of Trav J at his best. Let's see if he do it in the big time!

Bail has all the grunt and aggression that Neeld and Craig like and I for one am stoked he is still on the list. Will find himself quickly outside the starting 22 if he does not fix his kicking this preseason.

We need Spencer. He looks so unco but Barry Round from the Swannies, Manson from Collingwood, even big Strawbs O'Dwyer for the Dees in the late 80's were all horrible early on.

Strauss is described already in this thread as an "honest battler" and a potential "gun". There's little wonder arguments start on forums like this.

I don't agree with either, but I can see a very solid player if he finally gets a full preseason and a bit of confidence. He has beautiful balance, is a nice size and can kick exceptionally well when he's confident.

Great to read you'll be happily proven wrong Pass. We'll all sleep well tonight:)

Strauss is an elite kick, remember he is still recovering from an horrific broken leg Rd.20 2011

yes he may have been playing but there is confidence in the leg that must be built.

Give him this pre-season to work on his strength and confidence.

No idea how Spencer is still on an AFL list.

Because he competes every time he plays. The desire and effort to will yourself to a contest and to keep contesting is something that Neeld is looking and Spencil continues to show this. Yes he is a gumby but the second efforts he puts in and the willingness to keep chasing is something we have lacked in recent times and I for one am happy he was re-signed.

But I see desire and effort down at the local park on a Saturday arvo. Some of those players have more natural skill than Spencer.

I think after a decent trade/free agency period, this is a really poor decision. Why not just take the best delisted ruckman in the PSD?

The problem with Strauss is that he's done a Morton. He needs to get his confidence back and start backing himself when he's kicking. His first few games playing in the NAB cup his kicking was superb, but he's had a hard time of it since, and now he keeps trying to finesse his kicks and drops them short. I hope that the coaches can get him winning his one-on-ones (sound familiar?) and that he'll derive a bit more confidence from this and back his skills to get the job done.

Can kick. A few times seeing him run out of defence and kicking made me go wow, that's something we don't see at the dees often. Consistency is the key, let's hope for a good injury free run for him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
