Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes I believe we need to take another pick outside 4 and Viney but perhaps you are right boydie - perhaps Nicho and Evans being upgraded is included...

Doesn't the pick 58 we got from the filth count?

Watson and Kennedy were both tall inside mids who were or nearly were traded early in their careers because they didn't work hard enough and their skills were not up to scratch. I am not saying that Gysberts will be as good as either but they are of similar style.

I saw his and Blease early pre-season work and their efforts were embarrassing. The penny dropped with Blease and he had continuity of games to show his improvement. Its hard to tell with Gysbert due to injury interruptions whether the same has occurred.

If we think we can rectify his alleged attitude to hard work then he is well worth persevering with. He should not be traded just for the hell of it.

Nail on head.

I also don't have a particularly high opinion of Royal, the coach. He was a great footballer. However, given Neeld's relentless attempts to improve our playing list, would he not get rid of Royal (or any other coach) who he thought was not performing well?I know that our mids have been poor, but is this because of Royal or other factors?

The club has done a magnificent job in the trade period, but to offload Gysberts for anything less than a first round pick or at least an cemented senior player would be a little pre-mature. Gysberts just may turn out to be am a-grade player. It really is too early to tell.

Gysberts is definitely a keep at this stage, especially with the emphasis on talls lately we need his services in the middle.

For all of his faults, I too would like to see if the penny can drop with this guy.

Build a body to match his height, build endurance to match AFL footy, and develop a hunger to be the best he can be, and there's definitely a quality player waiting to emerge despite some shortcomings in his game.

Neeld was a Mid Field coach of a premiership team, so he would know if Brian Royal was not up to the job. He has already stated that the coaching team is not changing.

It would be great to hear from Gys. A top draft pick who had injury issues this year. With everyone doubting his commitment.

What's his plan for the next year? Is the fire in the belly? How hard is he planning to work to get up to standard?

Really think the club should give Gys an opportunity to put his side forward.

Cause right now there's a lot of speculation about him not wanting to be at our club.

He is a skinny inside mid with no real pace or other weapons. Something needs to change for him to become a senior AFL footballer.

The fact he hasn't, or the club hasn't released a "fluff piece" about his plans for next year, would indicate that he may not be in the plans for next year.

At the B&F Royal was signaled out on two occassions by midfield players. Can't recall any praise given to other coaches.

Thats interesting. If true then it goes to show those who like to deflect from players underperforming and blame the coaches would be ummm wrong.

We see the end result of our poor midfield and the first to cop the punch is the coach. Royal is out of contract I believe (yes?) - if Neeld doesnt move him on then our ex premiership midfield coach obviously rates him - but what the hell would he know ?

Absolutely does my head in- posters with zero clue pot an assistant coach with no more insight than the midfield is not performing. Posters here see the end result and bam - whack the coach. You cant pull your socks up if you arent wearing any. Lay blame squarely where it should be laid - at the feet of underperforming footballers not assistant coaches.(let someone who knows, the senior coach, make the assessment on his assistants)

Anyone that thinks Gys deserves a 1st round pick in exchange isn't seeing how value is determined at market.

At the draft kids are picked nearly exclusively on potential. They will have exhibited the various skills and abilities over their junior journeys and arrive at combines and are ranked by those whose job it is. Are they drafted on what they can do or what the recruiters think they may do once brought into the AFL system ?

It has to be the latter almost exclusively as they are almost unaminously untried at a senior level. One word sums it up, POTENTIAL.

They are given "mystic" point values for potential. This value holds sway whilst all their actual proess is essentially hidden.

This adds to the sometime lotto effect of the draft. Some kids come on, some don't. Valuable draft picks are essentially pegged to educated guessing.

Once a kid enters the system and is unwrapped al is laid bare. The mystic value disappears and we are then able to see the real , raw recruit for what he is. After a little time a revaluation will occur as matter of course. A comparison of what the recruiters estimated will be put against what IS.

His mystic value was pick 11 , his real value at trade is effectively now that plus a round, yes folks he's worth no more than a mid second at very best. He's been overtaken in the potential valuations by the new kids. We now KNOW what he's done. All current values are/will be based on that.

We have a number of kids showing more. I'd take anyone's second rounder and roll the dice again.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
