watch the last quarter of the rd 23 port vs tiges game. His zip and evasive skills broke the tiges press and he was instrumental in port getting back in the game and forcing a draw. Based on this and costing us relatively nothing, no issue with it.

May not cost much in $ but we would have to delist a player to make room for him. Would rather give one of our rookies a go.

Not for me, no defensive pressure runs around in circles a lot getting nowhere. Denham would be close to the mark about the Melbourne Bears if we went down this road.

Im sure delisitng a player on our list isnt a problem

Anyway honeslty whats the problem with this? A player weve been needing for ages at very little cost. We have pick 1 in the PSD yeah? So whats the problem here. Anyway if it means we dont take ben Warren with that pick , im all for it

Rodan would offer some colour to the team, and he might relish the opportunity. Even though he been around like the proverbial prostitute. Maybe third time lucky

My initial thoughts are [censored] no, too old- but then I think about cost and what he could bring- and I have to say let's roll them dice.

In other news Aaron Davey just bought property in Cranbourne as it's been rumored he is changing clubs..

To Casey, that is.

His best is very good...... But he's definitely passed his best..... Can his body hold up?

A rookie spot maybe......

I think he could play Roles in our lineup, & also could be very useful off the Sub bench as well. I think he's be a good addition to bolster us temporarily as our kids come on.

I doubt Dom Barry will be ready, too early.

Rodan would put pressure on our small forwards to apply themselves, not to mention our running players.

He's bring much needed intensity & quick feet & nimbleness. His attitude for the contest & the ball is great.

Agree with that, I'd certainly rather take Rodan over Warren in the PSD. Then again if Koby Stevens is available in the PSD I say we go with him.

If we had 50 spots on the list then sure why not??

But if he makes the starting 22, which of the players we are trying to develop stays at Casey?

He is not in my best 22 at this stage. Clearly I am missing something.

I agree that he wouldn't be in our best 22. He'd be insurance for Byrnes I guess. His value could be the example he sets at Casey and on the training track. If we were to draft someone like a Will Hams or Shannon Taylor late in the draft he could also play a mentoring role for them I guess as future small forwards?

We don't need to draft anyone in the PSD as we can sign delisted players as free agents. The PSD doesn't serve a purpose anymore as far as I can tell.

You're right about Rodan not needing to go through PSD Nasher, thanks for the correction.

I'm assuming PSD will only be for players who have walked from their clubs where deals have not been able to get done. For example Stevens, Tippet if that's what ends up happening with their negotiations. Not players who have been delisted?

The idea (whomevers) of Rodan as a specialist sub type player is quite interesting. He's no bunny, no spring chicken either but he's got a good footy brain.

We're definitely thinkingoutside the box as a club these days. That's good :)

From Afl.com..

"Pedersen is not the only player still in the Demons' sights, with former Richmond and Port Adelaide midfielder David Rodan touring Melbourne's AAMI Park facilities recently.

Rodan was delisted by Port Adelaide earlier this month so would be available as a free agent at the end of the trade period if the Demons decided to pursue him.

Rodan turned 29 in early October and has played 176 games since his debut in 2002."

It's a gamble, then again so are Dawes and Byrnes, but this is a bigger one considering the other two have come from premiership environments. I can see him potentially being handy in a foward crumbing role but I don't think he has the tank or backward running to play in the midfield.

He just goes missing for too long in games and I'm sick to death of those kind of players. His best is very, very good, but so is Davey's. Personally I think he's past it but perhaps Neeld sees him as still having value in a specific role.

Posted

It's also worth noting that he got limited opportunities last year under Primus, which many were questioning given he would've surely been in Ports best 22. David Parkin raised it every second week. So he could be really gunning for a fresh start.

As much as I respect Parko, the experts often don't have a good grasp on what's going on at a club, particularly a lowly one like ours and Port. The supporters generally have a better feel for this stuff as we're the ones that suffer week in week out while the experts concentrate on the big games and big name players. I found it frustrating this year when many experts were questioning why Moloney was playing at Casey, when we knew the answer. He wasn't playing good footy.

Nathan Lovett-Murray....

Yeah Nathan Lovett Murray in regards to him I do believe he is a spud however he plays the sub role perfectly. Kind of an all rounder where as Rodan I think could play the sub role perfectly. Give some pace to the side and kick goals. Im not saying he couldnt play a full game here and there but I think sub is perfect for him (That is if we pick him up)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
