According to Trade Radio and Nigel Carmody - "Rivers will not definitely be leaving Melbourne".

I assume he is JR's manager??

Good news if correct.

Have been a reader for a long time of Demonland but just had to join today. Got excited when I saw Rivers was staying BUT this is not a correct quote! The quote is "River will NOT definitely be leaving Melbourne" not "Rivers will definitely not be leaving Melbourne".

This thread is incorrect.... The quote was " Jared Rivers is not definately leaving Melbourne"

Translation, he is looking at offers to leave but has not made up his mind yet.

Great news, I think.

Is his manager verbally dyslexic?

the double negative will excite some of our week known soothsayers even more that the usual single negative. Some just love everything about anything negative.

Rivers staying would cap off a good draft/trade period

You're right. But I can't change the title...

We're hopefully just starting.

No caps.

We need a Ray or Russell type, some mature run & carry.

Pederson or similar.

this is the exact quote

"Nigel Carmody rapt to have Angus Monfries to Port Adelaide in exchange for pick 48. Another of his clients Jared Rivers is NOT definitely leaving Melbourne"

His manager Nigel Carmody from ESP told Gillette AFL Trade Radio that Rivers would have to wait and see what transpired from meetings held between AFL clubs this week before he knew what his options might be, but he emphasised that Rivers was no guarantee to depart Melbourne.

"By no stretch is he definitely leaving Melbourne," Carmody said.

no guarantee to leave Melbourne, alot different to what was quoted as i thought may be the case

If he was leaving to play finals as reported and the Cats are offering reasonable terms then there should not be too much to think about.

Maybe he will stay after all. I hope he does

Posted

... this might just be me, but I don't think playing finals footy is enough to justify a move. I could understand a move to a premiership contender (Sydney, Hawks, etc) But if the club isn't likely to be a legitimate contender (and I don't think Geelong are going to be one) then contract length and amount must at least be as significant as what MFC would be offering before considering a move.

good point. The MFC may be closer than Geelong in terms of winning a flag. Even though i expect them to contest finals for at least the next 2-3 years.

Rivers was never a certain to leave. more the case of being a free agent and seeing what was on offer, plus seeing what happens over the trade period and how rosey the future looks.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
