WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Recommended Posts

I'm staggered how many people overrate Martin on these boards

Yeah the guy might have some athletic talent, but what has he done except for a 4 week patch in 2011.

Furthermore, the guy is constantly injured and doesn't seem to have the ability to play through sore spots and niggles.

I would take Dawes for Martin in a heart beat

The only thing i can actually agree on is that in all probability Dawes is on the move.

Re-signing Cloke and now adding The Glove ( they now have a pair of gloves lol ) means no room for CD.

Id say they (filth) are more desperate to unload Dawes than we are to get him. Id place all valuations on that footing.

Am a bit underwhelmed personally.

hahaaha

yeah Martin is totally better than a 24 year old key forward who kicked a combined 57 goals and took a combined 200 marks in Collingwoods two grand final years

what a joke

Martin is nothing, he has done nothing at AFL level and never will.

Dawes will be the perfect support for Mitch inside forward 50. I hope we land him.

57 from 38 games (av. 1.5 goals a game) for a key forward over two premiership seasons, meaning a premiership class act midfield (Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas, Beams, Ball etc.) feeding it in to the FWD50 is incredibly POOR! He is a SPUD! As stated earlier if we loose Martin, Gysberts, or pick 13 for him I will be [censored]! I would much rather land Stringer in the draft (more potential in his pinky finger) with that pick than see it traded for this bloke.

I don't particularly want Dawes but if we got him as a replacement for Martin I'd take it in a heartbeat. I agree with the posters above I just don't see what all the fuss is with Martin. He can plug a gap down back, up forward or in the ruck but can't really do any of them any well at all. He is an athlete first and footballer second and he is not a very good footballer at that. Dawes can only play forward but at least he can do it to a satisfactorily level.

Having said all that I doub Collingwood would want Martin now that they have Lynch.

Dawes is a premiership centre half forward who could get a new lease of life with us.

Still very young, and the tall blokes normally get better with age.

Not particularly one way or other here but i would observe that Dawes has had a rather lackluster year and id say he has no favour with Bucks.

He does have a bit of upside should he come on song. You would have to think Brown and Neeld would know his real value here.

Im not overly excited by Martin. Not sure he has a big enough pallette of tricks.

Dawes aiding Clark...thats the 64 q. Hes not a class act CD.Nor is he a spud as some suggest. Hes just not achieving .

Arent underachievers with some upside who CAN fulfill a role, bought at a good price the very essence of the moneyball thinking ?

Hahahaha... No idea. Not even Collingwood would try that.

So what do you think it will be Stuie? Our second rounder won't be on the table because we need that for Viney, and a player won't work for them with their salary cap (especially if Tippett is actually headed there).

Dawes would be a good pickup for the dees right now as as a poster above noted his value is low and Collingwood may want to get rid of him (good Supercoach pickup!)

Ás i have said before Neeld wants a twin tower set up and he would fill that role to perfection. Even this year, although he had a poor season he still needs a big gorilla type to match him which stretches defenses when there is a Cloke as well (or a Clark if he was at the dees).

The post above that notes he said he struggled playing the second ruck role is interesting as at the dees he wouldn't need to do that and could just stay down forward, and possibly play out of the square. He was poor this year but i wouldn't be surprised if Neeld could turn him around.

Which raises another point. Neeld would know Dawes, his capacity etc and i would trust his judgement on him if we decided to go after him.

In an article i read this week about the Swans (i think about Morton) it was noted that new players were recruited specifically for a role and were told as much. Their job was to play that role. Also it noted they had a focus on getting players who could train at the elite level and were more interested in this than talent per se. All about players able to meet the Swans standards and buy in to the culture from the get go. Sound familiar? I have no doubt that this will be/is the approach to recruitment that Neeld will take/s (and has done already with Magner and Couch). Dawes would meet this criteria IMO. Buckley noted a few times what a terrific trainer Dawes is and that this was one of the key reasons he wasn't dropped earlier.

He can play a role, he'll buy in to Neelds vision, he trains at an elite AFL standard, he's from a successful club, he knows and has played with our forward coach, he'll be at a reasonable price and he's still young. He's also a braniac and that suits the MGC. Get him

You do realize they have to pay their drafted players yeah? All the pressure is on Collingwood as they will have to offload players.

I like Dawes, sure his year this year wasn't that great but he had a very serviceable 2011 and an excellent year in 2010. He provides a genuine big body, and when he is on song he is a dangerous target. He could also decrease our reliance on Clarke, and enable us to have a genuine big bodied decoy forward, secondary target. It certainly sits a lot better than using Rivers in this role. FWIW I believe Martin will stay by the way for those who are saying we could offer him up in the upcoming trade period. Can't see Martin going anywhere now that Rivers seems to be all but gone.

Seems like Melbourne are interested in Chris Dawes.

Interested to know people's throughts on getting Chris Dawes.

I'm not so sure about him... I think that he is lucky to be in a good team which makes him look better than what he really is. this year really highlighted how over-rated he is and how he played above his true colours last year.

Not so sure that he would be the answer for our forward line. Is young and tall but not sure if he's going to be very good.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
