Bulldogs could trump our pick 3 with pick 5 + pick 21 (From Hawks)

That said I damn hope we have interviewed this Barry kid from NT for piece of mind that he isn't going to want to go running home to NT several times a year.

GWS do not care about pick 21! They care about having the first 3 picks.

We are the only thing standing in the way of them getting what they want out of this ND. The bulldogs are just the poor touched cousins...

I know it's from Jay Clark, the guy who said Monfries to Dees on 4 year deal, but...

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Dees want Dom Barry, slick left-footed wingman, as part of Hogan trade. Had an outstanding draft combine. Averaged 18 poss for NT.

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Barry sweetens the deal for Dees. Run and carry specialist finished 3rd in 3km time trail, 9th in beep, and nailed 3rd best kicking score.

Interesting.

Although Barry is from the Northern Territory, he would continue our recent link with Ballarat as he played this year with the North Ballarat Rebels in the Under 18 TAC Cup competition. The Rebels were the top side but were disappointing in the finals. Our resident TAC Cup watcher Stevo was at Visy Park for Preliminary Final Day when they were thrashed by the ultimate permits, the Oakleigh Chargers and reported in PRELIMINARY

An interesting prospect who I do like is Dom Barry, a Northern Territorian who boards at St. Pat's Ballarat and has sizzling pace.

Knightmare on Bigfooty has  Dominic Barry going at pick # 66 in his Phantom Draft

Dominic Barry

Height: 183cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 07/03/1994

Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels

Style:

Player comparison:

Range: 30-rookie

Profile: Very quick outside midfielder with a good combination of speed and endurance. Has a real slippery, evasiveness to him and has really nice agility. The speed is the real feature of his game and both ways it can be a real feature whether it be with his chasing or offensive running when he can get into space. His numbers are very solid for a player of his type but to improve will need to develop some more consistency in his ball use.

Chris25 has him going to Hawthorn at 78:-

Dom Barry (183cm midfielder - Alice Springs)

Every year I talk up players from the NT, and most years they slip through to the rookie draft. I think that is what will happen with most of the other NT boys, but Barry looks special. He is a very smooth moving winger, not too unlike Stephen Hill. Sometimes his kicking can let him down though, which is likely what will see him drop. But he runs hard, marks well and can go forward. I reckon someone will take the punt on him quite early, because with a few years of development he could be a great player.

Jack Viney was just the 'end of the beginning'. The hard work starts from here - the next week or so is critical - MFC recruiters need to be at their best!

Dom should be fine, has been a boarder at St Pats since year 9.

Be excited about this pick up folks, that is if it happens of course.

Have seen him play a lot this year, think Lewis Jetta without the monster boot. Has that certain flair as well, on numerous occasions this year has he eyed off multiple defenders in front of him, only to split through them with absolute ease.

Also took out the schools year 12 100 metre sprint in a field that also included Jake Neade.

On top of all this, apparently a genuine top guy who struts around with a smile on his face and is always up for a chat.

Based on all that I reckon Jamie Bennell's place on the list could be in jeopardy if we get Barry.

Given this is your first post I'm taking it you have some sort of relationship with Dom so please tell us more. Attributes and bad characteristics etc. I see he is very small and Jetta-esque which I do not care about- you need some lean players; just pray he has an appetite for the contest.

Yes, he is an absolute rake at the minute, which I know won't sit well with a few supporters but to be honest to play the way he does you don't need to be big. I don't know about bad characteristics, but defensive capabilities probably aren't his strong suit at this stage, but that isn't much different to most kids his age. As for his appetite for the contest, he will go when it is his turn, but he isnt a contested ball winner.

That's good to hear Davos. Alot of supporters expect every player to weigh 95, be toned to the house and also run 10.5 100m sprints.

Dom will fill a need of a really fast dashing HBF, winger ala Hill or Lewis Jetta. Most aboriginal players in his body shape aren't ready made players so I'm sure he'll spend first 10-15 weeks in VFL and hopefully by than be ready to slot in with some much needed pace!

Melbourne have been silly in the past in looking at the raw data of speed; the 20m dash time but the issue has been they've drafted all the fastest most unfit players. They sure are fast but after 10 minutes they'll never reach peak speed again in the game. I'm incredibly impressed seeing Dom ran a 10 minute 3k which is just phenomenal athleticism and fitness in any sport. This pick will be great for the Dees.

What ever gets hogan is good by me. We have viney so we are halfway to my dream draft

yes i agree hope we get hogan, of course his nickname has to be HULK ...

Posted

Another way to look at it is that, by not bidding on Viney, GWS has effectively traded us pick 3 for pick 26.

So, the trade between GWS, GC and us is:

MFC:

In- 20, MD2, Viney

Out- 3, 13, 26

GWS:

In- 2, 3, 13

Out- MD1, MD2, 20

GC:

In- MD1

Out- 2

If you look at all of those deals by themselves and each team benefits well. That's what a win-win-win trade is about.

only issue i see is that GWS make out like Bandits, maybe less so as they gave GC an end of first round pick compared to GC who essentially gave up something in Viney when GWS were never giving up Whitfield?

Lets face it, if this kid develops the way he has been already we will have a great power forward we have not had since the Ox (yes I know Neitz, but he was a defender who played forward).

I've heard people refer to him in the mould of J. Brown, hell if he can get to 80% of Brown we have a winner on our hands.

I'd prefer not to use both 3 and 13, but getting Viney at 26 makes me care a little less.

Exactly. The only way we could stuff this draft/trade period up is if we trade away pick 4 for Dawes/Wellingham.

Given that it looks like it may be part of the Viney deal, I think it essentially means we're getting Hogan for pick 13 and an upgrade of pick 26 to 20 with a player. Sounds good to me by the sounds of Hogan!

Is it just me or does 3 and 13 seem overs?

I understand we get 20 back, and this kid who would go very late.. but still

No I think it sounds about right. Depends a bit on what we do with 20. If we trade it for Dawes then we are paying overs, because he isn't worth a first round pick in my opinion. I'd go to the draft with 4 and 20 and trade whatever compo we might get for Rivers for Dawes, which is likely to be end of second round or early third round. If Rivers doesn't go then fine, we don't get Dawes.

Plus dom barry. 20 will be considered for Dawes?

That would mean these 5 from our top 4 picks:

Hogan

Pick 4 Mid

Barry

Dawes

Viney

2 mids with potential to make an impact round 1, 1 KPF ready to go. A giant KPF and potential line breaking wingman/defender to develop.

Seems like a nice balance and fills needs.

What number does anyone think Hogan would go at if he was in this draft?

3 and 13 when he is not even number 1 in Mini Draft is not overs?

Shouldn't you be asking what number he would likely to be going at in next years draft? Think of it as buying "off the plan" or as an investment in the future. We still have pick 4 and now have pick 20 and have Viney for a song.

If things hadn't gone our way, we would have used pick 3 on Viney anyway. The net effect is that the deal has really meant that Hogan, Barry and pick 20, have cost us picks 13 and 26.

In effect we would be getting Hogan & Viney for picks 3 & 26.Yesterday most of us were prepared to use pick 3 for Viney. So pick 26 (in essence) for Hogan is a good deal in my opinion.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
