Anyone think we are a chance landing a big fish in free agency

With moloney taking advantage of free agency no doubt the club will be looking at benefiting from it aswell and replacing moloney with Goddard would be a good get??

I'm not convinced on Goddard, I'd rather look elsewhere. I think we should follow Richmond's approach and get players who will contribute like Houli, Grigg and Maric rather than chase a guy who's probably played his best footy and I'm not convinced is a leader.

to be honest, i dont want him.

He'll demand a fair bit of the cap, and realistically he's not going to be playing his best football when we are pushing for a flag

I've been against him in the past, because I thought we'd clearout about 5 senior players.

But if we clear 10 - 12, we'll need a few senior players to step in.

So with that, I'd go for him.

If we don't get replacement senior players, it will take some time to get going again.

Guys have you actually looked at our list recently. Moloney gone. Davy wouldn't be on big money anymore.

We literally have no one to pay.

If we don't land a big fish this trade period, guys like Garland will be paid $800k just to pay somebody to get to 92%

I agree with this approach, though you need a star or two to build around (which hopefully we can draft), like Richmond have in Cotchin and Riewoldt. Wouldn't say Maric has contributed much to Richmond either.

Just heard an sen interview with Tim Harrington from today. He said they were looking to add one or possibly two players during free agency.

I wonder if Ablett is tired of playing up north yet? :P

Probably win the Brownlow, gets $1 million PA, shines is GF medals every day, gets to endure the winter on the GC.

Nah I doubt it

Made the AA top 40 so he has been a good pick up I think.

Pity we did not have anyone in there.

Goddard is OK, would be a good fit for a backline next to Watts. Imagine that lineup in 3-4 years?

Yep sorry I was thinking of Addam, Ivan has been a revelation for them.

Goddard is too old for our list. We are better off going for several younger up and coming mids for the same price. It is also better for Goddard to go to a club that can win the Premiership.

Is Dane Swan an option? Rumoured to want out of Collingwood.

lol. If you believe this you will literally believe anything in the silly season.

Reality bus coming through guys...

Have you seen the free agency list? Not as impressive as you may think, and we've already lost at least 5 players who we have to replace with someone.

I'd take Goddard in a heartbeat.

We're going to need to fill at least 10 spots, and we don't have that many draft picks. I'd love to get a superstar to our club, but the reality of where we are and the availability of said superstars will keep our hands tied somewhat. We all love Mitch, but even he wasn't a superstar when we went for him.

It's pretty obvious from Neelds statements that we will be going after some senior bodies. I for one am sick of this "won't be part of our next premiership" stuff. We need senior bodies to bring through the guys that WILL be a part of this supposed "next premiership", otherwise we'll never get there.

Maybe his grandchildren will.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
