Tweeted just now:

Brad Green, Mark Neeld and Don McLardy will hold a press conference today at 11.40 am. We'll be tweeting live - stay tuned.

Be my guess too, given the participants. Allows time for a couple of farewell games.

Please no. One of the few senior players on the list who have leadership and talent! Say it ain't so!

Posted

hope that the club didnt expect him to do it himself, and then after booting 5 he got confidence back and wanted another year and was rejected :/

Posted

He might want to focus on the next chapter of his life.

I doubt we are forcing him through the door.

People need to relax

Had a feeling after watching him celebrate that he may have announced before the game he was retiring. I still think he could go another year in the forward pocket!

Posted

maybe they are going to announce that he will continue with a 1 year contract as a player/coach.

or that his taking over mortons contract

Am choking back tears...hope this is what Brad really wants

I was hoping for Greeny to go around again next year, especially when we don't know what's going to happen with LJ and Petterd will be offered to the Suns.

and Cook not coming on,we have a seriously weak forward line.

All the best Brad.

I thought he'd have another year at the club as a third or fourth forward, he could kick 30 to 40 goals in that sort of position.

Good luck Greeny if you do retire just don't pop up at GWS in 12 months time, try to stick around the club and mentor some of the young kids.

As hard as it is to take and look back and see what Greeny has achieved without getting the utlimate, it would be the right thing for him to retire now.

We are not going to play finals in the next two years in my opinion. Staying on would see Brad come under increasing scrutiny that would diminish his place in the game. Most importantly I am hopeful it's a mutual agreement/understanding?

Green announcing retirement?

Correct weight in my opinion.

I think the club should keep him in some capacity.

The right decision. Green gets to call the end in a fitting way. A loyal and dedicated demon.

Well done Brad. A mentoring role would be good in the future.

If this is the case, all the best to him. A great club servant for many years. His form was down in the past couple, but this doesn't detract from his contribution to the club.

Hopefully it was mutual and not another McDonald 2.0

Posted

If retirement is the case here then congratulations all round. He will go out in style and would not surprise me if snapped up by another club as a specialist coach with a view to being a senior Coach later down the track.

Posted

I think they'll be announcing a one year deal which will followed by a job of some capacity at the club. We need him for next year but tying him to the club after means we can begin to think without him next year and move forward with him still happy.

I don't think so.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
