Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is Howe the best contested mark you've seen?

What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is an honest to god FOOTBALLER. Yes, you heard it. A footballer at the MFC. He can mark it, he can kick it AND (now this is key) he will bloody shepherd for you once he gives you the ball.

Can take a hanger too. Very nice. I'd love to see him, Clark and Jurrah all fit and firing in the forward line, although I'm worried that Clark is going to kill a few of his team-mates unlucky enough to drift into his path next year. Can someone allay my concerns in that regard?

Also, add Cloke and we go from the worst forward line in years (ie the one we fielded today) to perhaps our best ever.

you guys seem to be forgetting peter yeo. ps clark shouldn't play at full forward, he will kill himself the way he flies for marks.

Neeld could have taken the easy step after seeing Howe's marking ability and just thrown him forward and keep him there for his career. Good on Neeld for trying to make him into more then a highlight reel.

Neeld does seem to like most players to have more than one string to their bow, which can only be good though very frustrating for fans starved of success for so many years.

Howe's induction into the midfield can only enhance his natural talents as a marking forward. If he keeps it up he will be a big AFL drawcard, as Liam was starting to become before his various injuries and other issues.

Let us all (trolls excepted) hope that the hard work of this year, reassessment and the learning of their various new roles, pays off big time in the next few seasons.

Then we will all (trolls excepted) be happy to hail Neeld as the next Norm Smith!!

There may be a few others who were "better" over entire careers, but gee this guy is pretty young and is getting very consistent, hes basically starting to do them every week.......will put bums on seats for us imo....

Just saw Jeremy interviewed on the Channel 10 news. He has been nominated eight times this season for mark of the year. Good on him - hope he wins.

Saw that too, seems like a good kid.

Some spud will probably take the most amazing mark ever in the last round, just to not let us win anything this year.

Carey or Ablett snr is the best contested mark I've ever seen.

Weren't we talking high, or spectacular marks with regards to Howe ? You know, old fashioned "speccies".

If you're talking "contested" marks I'd have Stewie Loewe and Gary Dempsey ahead of the two you mention.

You mean you've never seen that ?

I've seen him kick goals but I'd like to see his conversion rate for set shots after marks...he may be suffering oxygen deprivation but I reckon he gets ahead of himself and doesnt set himself up properly.

If we are talking about speccies and hangers Howe is certainly right up there. But as best contested mark, not yet. When his feet are on the ground an/or grappling with an opponent he is still average. At the moment a one trick pony who gives us something to cheer about when the game is usually long gone. Will break his neck one day the way he is going. Do less of hanging around the back of packs and start being more proactive and lead up more. I could see him becoming more of a Jason Dunstall type. The long bombing game plan we now have does not help him though. Him and Clark are endangered species.

at this point he has a highlight reel that is pound-for-pound with Modra, who is a way overlooked star of the past. If you've forgotten, just check this out:

giant leap, sticky hands, perfect timing and the ability to read the fall of the ball.. genuine muscle/presence is the only criteria of contested marking that he doesn't have in spades, but who needs that when you have those other abilities

It was (meant to be) a rhetorical question.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
