Changes v Richmond

Phew... Tough week to call, many injuries, poor form in both AFL and VFL... But for mine, I think it's time for some chances to be extended.

So in saying that, here's a stab at it on a week where anything could happen (guessing with injuries):

OUT:

McDonald (inj), Spencer, Dunn, Moloney.... Roughie OUT: Bail (Reckon he'll get another week to find form)

IN:

Jamar, Jones, Couch, Gysberts (sub)... Roughie IN: Cook (Would rather him come in when either Clark or at least Green are around as 1st option)

I have a sneaking suspicion that with a big win against GWS followed by an interstate game, Jamar and Jones may have been rested for the higher attention game this week and will be straight back in.

Actually wouldn't be surprised to see Davis come in for McDonald.

Need McKenzie to Cotchin who is more damaging inside. Maybe Nicho to run around with Deledio?

I disagree. Deledio sets up all of their run and attack. If McKenzie can shut him down (similar to goddard) then we are a bigger chance for mine.

Cotchin is a star, but we have to put someone like Bail or Grimes to run with and shut down.

I can't comment too much as I don't watch the VFL (and only rely on the reports on here and the MFC website), but if someone can honestly confirm to me that Gysberts and Petterd have done enough to earn a call up to the senior side, then I will go with it. They don't need to have had 100's of possessions each game, but providing they are doing the "team" things, (ie run, chase, defend, tackle, spread), then, and only then should they be considered for senior selection. That especially goes for Petterd.

In: Jamar, Jones, Cook

Out: Spencer, McDonald, Moloney*

* Moloney won't get dropped, wishful thinking there

I'm not convinced that Davis will make it - McDonald always gives 100% and often wins the one-on-ones. He stays in for mine.

If you are not convinced that Davis will make it, fine. I have seen him play at Casey and think that he will. We both need to see him at AFL level to see which of us is correct. This is his chance.

One of rivers or garland needs to go back to the back line, frawley can't do it alone.

Bring one of cook, Fitzpatrick, or Williams in to play up forward with garland or rivers.

Old dees mate bennell to come in to play on nahas

Other than that, continue to shuffle the deck chairs and hope jamar and jones are fit

McDonald or MacDonald?

I suspect McDonald has to be a definite out. MacDonald had not a bad game, I thought, he would be stiff to get dropped.

Looking at the fixture I think there's an opportunity to play Cook - from R17 it's Port, North, GC, Saints, GWS - that could be a good 5 week stretch for him to get the feel.

I think Davis in for McDonald.

Jamar and Jones in are no-brainers if they're fit.

Jamar and Martin to split time in the forward 50 - they're very poor man's Clark but they're the best option we have.

I'd stick with Rivers and Garland forward, we'd particularly want them there if Cook comes in.

Old, your thoughts on starting Jamar at FF, Cook CHF, Martin Ruck this week against a lacking Richmond backline and Ivan?

If you're looking for a much needed chuckle, have a read of the Changes thread on the Richmond board at BF. Alot of anger and frustration over Miller's performances with unanimous calls for him to be dropped this week and many saying he should be delisted.

Ah memories. :)

Please let it be Cook over Fitzpatrick this week..

Groundswell of support for Couch to be named this week, anyone know what the full story is about him being re-elevated etc?

Starting to feel like it's gonna be the Couch and Cookie show this week.

Reading through Paul Satterly's Casey player reviews from the weekend (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/140277/default.aspx), it doesn't look like we'll be seeing Gysberts, Morton or Petterd in the ones anytime soon. Gysberts 'report' is particularly disappointing.

On the plus side, Couch and Fitzpatrick stood up in a losing side.

Not necessarily stood up. But probably the best of the lot. See Scorps thread.

Edit :

My ins/outs:

IN: Jamar, Jones, Davis (new), Fitzpatrick

OUT: McDonald (inj), Spencer, Bail, Sellar (thigh)

Reading development coach Paul Satterley review. It appears a few players who are should be playing for their future, are not

It is refreshing though that this bloke doesn't sugarcoat everything like previous VFL reports on the club site

You are joking?

What is this...... sugar coated Code?

Cale Morton - 26 disposals

Although Cale had a high number of possessions, he was not as influential on the game as we would expect of him.

The tea leavers would say "Most possesions uncontested" and again.... in last quarter when all was lost!

Won't sugar coat?? Bah!

    TRAINING: Monday 11th November 2024

Veteran Demonland Trackwatchers Kev Martin, Slartibartfast & Demon Wheels were on hand at Gosch's Paddock to kick off the official first training session for the 1st to 4th year players with a few elder statesmen in attendance as well. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning. Joy all round, they look like they want to be there.  21 in the squad. Looks like the leadership group is TMac, Viney Chandler and Petty. They look like they have sli

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
