There seems to be a few threads going around with a lot of them turning into people giving input into what there end of year wish list is so i figure why not make a thread dedicated to it.

If as expected we finish 16th, we will end up with draft picks 3, 4, 12 and a mid 20s pick.

With those picks on hand, free agency, 17yr old draft and players to trade I wanted to see the best scenarios people could suggest for an all-round good package which is realistic and could fulfil the teams needs.

Personally I think we should go for Cloke and pay the coin for him. He is a free agent so we will not need to give Collingwood anything.

I also think Boak would fit in nicely, though due to Cloke our coin will be restricted so I will count him out (unless we can't get Cloke)

My money is that GWS and GC will not take the risk which will benefit all other teams, especially the ones with picks directly after ours. (This is a wish-list so I am being positive on this one)

After reading about the 17yr olds, I think they will be more valuable then people give credit for, remember these are the touted picks 1 and 2 of the 2013 draft, not just that but they will get an extra year of senior development before they begin playing which I think makes them more valuable then a standard pick 1 or 2. Also they say next years draft should almost be as strong as this years.

Overall my wish-list package would be

Cloke

Hogan 17 yr old - (Pick 3 traded to GWS)

Stringer (pick 4)

Wines/Simpson (Pick 12)

Viney (2nd rounder)

Remind me again who our Free Agents are, and whom we may be in danger of losing?

Not many free agents that are critical pieces of our team. Bate, Dunn, Green, Moloney and Rivers.

Other out of contract players are: (I'm not 100% sure if this is accurate, but it seems right)

Bail, Bartram, Bennell, Blease, Cook, Davis, Garland, Howe, Jetta, Jones, Jurrah, McDonald, McKenzie, Petterd, Spencer, Strauss, Evans, Nicholson

Of those players, I think it is vital that we re-sign Blease, Garland, Howe, Jones, McDonald, McKenzie, Bartram, Bail, Cook and Nicholson and, pending the outcome of his case, Jurrah.

Even if we got those players without Cloke I'd be very happy.

Viney for a second round pick would be great.

I trust the new regime on which kids to recruit, but getting another very established elite player is needed IMO.

My "Wish List" is:

- (draft period) Cloke, Boak (one of the compo picks), Viney (2nd round pick), a couple of really good future young midfield stars with our other 1st round picks, some Magner types with our rookie picks, and a mature age quick small forward who's coming off a good season in the VFL (or has been delisted by another AFL club) with a lower end national draft pick.

- (injury list) everyone fit and raring to go, especially Mitch Clark.

- (re-signing) the signing of all of the current players we need to keep asap - see Good Times Grimes post above for those players.

- (coaching) Junior McDonald to rejoin the club in the off season as a new assistant coach, and the club to extend Neeld's contract for another year as a further vote of confidence in him.

No RB we made that mistake with DB.

I have no idea if Neeld is a good coach or not.

Lets not back ourselves into a corner lets at least wait till the start of 2014.

Why rush this decision?

Get Clarkes foot right.

Hit jackpot in the draft.

Pick 3 Toumpas

Pick 4 Stringer

Pick 13 port Adelaide Boak to MFC

Pick 23 SOG Jack viney

This is how i see it playing out with GWS just not willing to risk the viney bid.

Cloke will end up at the bulldogs.

Mitch Clark ready to go a the start of preseason

Liam Jurrah fit and charges against him thrown out

Pick up a good player from another club (think Boak, Wellingham, Goldsack etc)

Honour our commitment to Jack Viney and take him with pick 3 if requried

Dayne Beams is the one to go after for mine. Cloke won't leave Collingwood, they know their premiership window will essentially close if he walks as such they'll give him what he wants to stay. That will likely lead to squeezing out 1 or 2 of Beams, Wellingham, Goldsack & OBrien. Of that lot Beams is the most enticing. Even more so than Boak for mine.

I want Mitch Clark to get back to playing and leading the forward line.

I want the beginning of a core of 8-10 "A" and "B" Grade midfielders who can take it up to the juggernauts of the AFL. That would mean:

  • Jones keeping on keeping on
  • Trengove getting better
  • Grimes building his midfield role
  • Gysberts playing AFL consistently
  • Howe working as a midfielder
  • Midfielder X (the one we trade for, like Boak or Beams or whoever)
  • Viney as a recruit
  • Draft pick #4 (as good as Viney)
  • Maybe any others in the mix: Blease, Nicholson, Magner, Sylvia, Tynan, Taggert, Couch etc.

That is all.

I would take Wellingham over Boak or Beams to be honest. He would be slightly cheaper and I think he offers a different dimension or style of play to what our crop currently have.

Would mix it up a bit more I think

Viney listed

Get pick 3 & 4.

MItch Clarke fit

Recruit a star from left field for the Mid field!

Unsure about Boak..Would be handy but not for big coin..

Dodge Cloke & his identicle $erial money hungry club switching old man..

Don't care what picks we get, just get them right. No more Morton's.

I want more wins before years end.

Been waiting for the appearance of the Morton

The Sam Stosur of MFC

would be happy if he developed into a useful part of the Melbourne jugernaut now that we have tasted a win

some of us know he can only improve

3 'Melbourne supporters' signed with the club they apparently supported growing up:

C. Judd

S. Pendlebury

L. Franklin

Not asking too much, surely?

recruitment of players who have strong bodies. not just to win contested footy, but so they don't get injured as often.

given last years draft was influenced by Neeld, i am positive that this will happen.

Nice work. I'd have maybe Wines over Toumpas.

I dont know to much about Wines what type of player is he?

My North Melbourne mate has been going on about this kid.

Must be a nice player because i have heard alot of good things about toumpas.

We seem to be building a bit of a South Australian team. Trengove,Tapscott and now maybe Toumpas.

Can you tell me a bit about the kid Wines?

Cheers

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
