The quotes from Rawlings confirm how I've viewed Clark's departure from Brisbane from day one. He didn't leave for home sickness or for money - the latter just helped him choose his destination. He left because he wanted out of Brisbane, for whatever reason.

I also found his reaction to Jimmy's death pretty moving.

Anyway, like most have said in here I love the guy. Has leadership, is tough and can actually play; we've had far too few players with all three traits in recent years. He's currently the closest thing we've got to a genuine star.

Geez I love this bloke! When I first heard that we were after him, I was absolutely thrilled, after seeing the game he had in rd 1 last year against Freo. And then thinking he was lost, I wasn't really surprised, but devastated. And then, all of a sudden, we got him and I was ecstatic. And the best thing in all of it is what a gem he has proved to be so far. I wouldn't quite call him for captain, as I believe Nate Jones should have his hard work and loyalty rewarded with the role, but he's a close second for me. Look forward to watching him play out that career, and help us to a flag or two

Mitch copped a lot of flak for "going for the money". I don't really think this is the case, but if it is - than good on him. If Freo were offering considerably less than he made the right choice. The fact is Mitch Clark is providing value for money, if he was getting less IMO he'd be underpaid. Why do AFL supporters feel there is something ignoble in players seeking maximum value for their utility?

Spot-on Nasher. We can build a future around guys like Clark (and Jones), but based on what we've seen so far in 2012, there are very few others. With a decent mid-field, and a solid crumbing forward to feed off the contests that Clark creates, I really think he can become a genuine star.

I'd like to think this was the case, but if so, you could also say the same thing for Scully. A little biased I think. Love Clark though. Don't care if he came for money. He plays for the jumper and that's all that matters.

FWIW I don't really care whether he came for the money or not either. It just so happens that I don't think it's why he left Brisbane - I do think that's why he chose us as the destination though and that's fine with me.

The other (great) thing is that he saw no route to Freo, because they weren't prepared to pay Brisbane's asking price picks wise and tried to low-ball them, and he wouldn't make it through the draft. We put a fair offer to him on the table and a fair trade offer to Brisbane, they took it in an instant. I was pretty proud of the club that day - we got what we wanted through a swift and fair deal, and managed to leave Freo looking completely and utterly stupid in the process. Gold.

On 3AW they were going on about Melbourne supporters going overbaord with the booing and Matthew Richardson said that we did seem to have a problem Mitch Clarke accepting the money. I think it seems lost on all the media that it wasn't the money issue with $cully it was how he did it and the lies he told. Mitch was leaving Brisbane and it was our good luck that he chose us. There lies the difference and aren't we all glad. Mitch played a better quarter and a bit than the unmentionable played the whole game.
