Melbourne - Picks 3, 4, 12, & 22 (Viney)

GWS get Morton for Round 4 Pick and GC get Bate for Round 4 Pick in deals not too bid for Viney.

I think both of these guys will want out. Especially Bate!!!

They'd play hard ball and want more, like Jones or Tappy.

Over the last 4 yrs, Morts and Bate have struggled to even get picked. Who'd want them? Bulldogs offer of pick 237 for Bate last yr indicates a generous offer, IMHO.

GWS and GC are not a rubbish bin for other teams to tip in their discards, especially when they hold the upper hand.

Man some people live in fairy land around here. And clearly don't understand or ignore several posts made by others.

The Father/Son bidding process is completed BEFORE the trade period commences. Thus arranging trades to secure some back door deal with GC and GWS prior to this are 1- against the AFL trade period rules, 2- even if allowed, are done on nothing more than good faith because nothing can be signed and 3- would also likely to be tantamount to draft tampering at least in the AFL's eyes.

There will be no back door deals with GWS or GC if they finish lower than us.

Viney WILL be picked up by Melbourne. They will use the round 1 selection on him if necessary. END OF STORY.

The AFL can get stuffed.

If we do a deal that implicates both the expansion teams, the AFL is not going to say anything.

We can get it done, and then everyone plays dumb.

I agree that it would take a great deal of faith on the part of the expansion teams as we can backflip once Viney is in the second round.

Love your passion RPFC but the AFL have their hands planted firmly in GC and GWS's arses and will not allow any deal like that to occur because of the backlash that will occur from the other 15 clubs not involved.

Sorry but there will be no shady deal to stop early FS nominations and there will be no trading picks 3 and 4 for pick 1.

It is what it is.

IMO, two heads are better than one. In a field a speculative as drafting young teenagers, I'm always in favour of a high turnover rate. I'd always go 2 picks before 1, unless the two are way down the draft order.

Good luck policing it. GWS have already given us a taste of what they are prepared to do to beat the system with O'Meara - and in this case they declared their hand

Yep, Franklin at pick ? Selwood? Pendlebury? Swan? Sidebottom? number one aint it, look at the blue boys, look at us, it doesn't work. Build a team the more picks the better, don't limit us.

Viney will be our first pick simple as that and he will be a good player ready to go, let's find another couple with our compo picks and see if we can jag another Howe or McDonald down the order and we are well on our way to building a team.

Gary Ablett is the best player in the comp and it's not helping GC win a game.

8,9's very different to 3,4 but agree no club would go for it

why did port even try that?

Because Trengove was being touted as being the best talent to come out of South Aus since Buckley.

keep 3 & 4...2 soldiers please.

I know we look at in hindsight but picks 3 and 4 seems to result in some decent picks and pick 1 is not a guarenteed superstar of the comp. I think in a "talented loaded"

draft it will be best to keep picks 3 and 4.

2011 Draft

Wow - Swallow or Sam Day and Gaff. tough decision. At this stage would probably go for Day adn gaff.

Round Pick Player Recruited from League Club 1 1 David Swallow East Fremantle WAFL Gold Coast 1 2 Harley Bennell Peel Thunder WAFL Gold Coast 1 3 Sam Day Sturt SANFL Gold Coast 1 4 Andrew Gaff Oakleigh Chargers TAC Cup West Coast

In 2009 would prefer 3 in Martin and 4 Moribito combined over Scully.

Round Pick Player Recruited from League Club Priority 1 Tom Scully Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup Melbourne 1 2 Jack Trengove Sturt SANFL Melbourne 1 3 Dustin Martin Bendigo Pioneers TAC Cup Richmond 1 4 Anthony Morabito Peel WAFL Fremantle

2008

I like Hartlett and Hill at his best is good. Hurley at 5 isn't bad either.

Round Pick Player Recruited from League Club 1 1 Jack Watts Sandringham Dragons TAC Cup Melbourne 1 2 Nic Naitanui Swan Districts WAFL West Coast 1 3 Stephen Hill West Perth WAFL Fremantle 1 4 Hamish Hartlett West Adelaide SANFL Port Adelaide 1 5 Michael Hurley Northern Knights TAC Cup Essendon

2007

WOuld prefer pick 1 this year

Round Pick Player Recruited from League Club Priority 1 Matthew Kreuzer Northern Knights TAC Cup Carlton 1 2 Trent Cotchin Northern Knights TAC Cup Richmond 1 3 Chris Masten East Fremantle WAFL West Coast 1 4 Cale Morton Claremont WAFL Melbourne 1 5 Jarrad Grant Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup Western

2006

Prefer to keep pick 3 and 4

The draft is a lottery, even at the point end, i'd trade all of our top picks in the up coming draft for a current star.

Not sure how this could work but say we have to take Viney with our first pick (Pick 3?), could we get some clubs interested with Picks 4 & 12? Go hard at Freo for Fyfe, or Gold coast for a homesick caddy + their first pick? Wonder if Geelong would trade an aging champion like Bartel or Chapman for Pick 4 seeing as they look like their list is looking old? Need to do another mitch clark type of trade.

Unlikley to happen i know, but i think we need players who are ready to go and have an impact in 2013

You have my vote DemonWA

Not that it is worth a lot but I agree we need goers now not potential 2015/16 players.

PS on reflection we actually need both

Keep the picks, use one for Jack Viney and use the other to try lure an elite player to the club!

Posted (edited)

You'd have to trade Viney (pick 2) & pick 3 for pick 1 & Viney (pick 22ish) effectively (if we finished 16th and had picks 3 & 4 you'd have to satisfy 17th placed GCS with pick 2 not to bid on Viney either).

Is a good left field idea in theory but don't think there's a chance in hell it would happen. Don't see why the AFL doesn't allow this kind of stuff though they really should be more flexible with clubs trying to arrange win/win trades (including trading future picks).

Chapman is so overrated, he is a just a big angry dude that doesn't really do anything.

Getting Bartel to the Demons would be a great move, not just because he is a great of the game but also because it is the only hope I have of converting my Geelong supporting fiance to the Demons.

2 players over 1 every day of the week, particularly if we are going to be picking early in the draft.

However I reckon the best thing for us to do this year is try to finish at 14th of 15th. Then we are only using a 4th or 5th pick on Viney, and get another solid player immediately after him, plus we have a further selection at 12. I don't think that there is much of a difference between players in the top 5 anyway. It would usually just come down to the type of game style the teams are playing and which player fits best for the team.

Might not be hopeless, but he sure is old and busted.

Hasn't missed a game in '012, still averaging 23 disposals and a 1.5 goals a game.

No longer at his peak but still a gun who would probably be leading the Bluey if he was at Melbourne.

Chapman is done, I just got rid of him from my supercoach.

He doesnt work as hard anymore, gets decent scores - but is on the slide in a big way.

I think Chappy should call it a day at the end of the year.

Hang on, dont tell me you kids want to draft Chappy, lol...?

Gets decent scores but is on the slide in a big way? Make up your mind ... which is it?

A little more respect please for a champion of the game who is striving to hang a fourth (yep, count 'em. One, two, three and quite possibly four) premiership medallion around his Mike Tyson neck.

His Supercoach and Dreamteam scores would be the envy of 95% of the players on our list.

I'd say GWS have enough youth, they wouldn't want to trade # 1 for 2 early picks

(this is not accounting for the fact that we will use our 1st pick on JV and I don't believe any secret deals will be done)

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
