Noticed in the papers that he's being sought by a couple of Vic clubs. A second chance, so Vlad says.

Gee, the Adelaide list has been picked well, given how few top draft picks they've had over the last few years.

Thoughts?

Edit... carp spelling.

Go for him, with due diligence. But if his main problem seems related to Misfit's loose tongue, then maybe it isn't a real problem at all.

This looks (again) like being our big opportunity: we can't afford to stuff up inane way at all.

I just hope we do the right amount of psychological profiling if we do go for him.

And wait until someone else offers him a job first just to make sure we are making the right decision ;-)

He picked up Tex Walker with pick 75 in this day and age where the draft is a lot more accurate, so couldn't hurt to have a go!

Pretty sure he was one of those NSW scholarship players which is why they were able to get him on the cheap.

He has made plenty of other very good picks though

Funny.

Just after his sacking it was suggested on this forum, to very critical response.

What were the arguments behind this critical response?

Can't remember, but you could go back and look.

I do remember that they had little substance, like "regardless of guilt, he'd be PR poison for the club..."

if we gonna do it then pull the trigger now there is a lot of work to be done between now and draft time no point wasting time get the old team of rendell and craig back together

Some Rendell background...

2007 AFL draft

T Walker, pick 75 (NSW scholarship)

A Otten, pick 27

P Dangerfield, pick 10 (over local fav Ebert, taken elsewhere at 13)

2008

R Sloane, pick 44

2009

D Talia, pick 13

J Gunston, pick 29

Before Rendell arrived at Adelaide they picked one J Sellar at 14 in 2006 and in 2005 their first 2 picks were R Douglas and D Pfeiffer at 16 & 17.

(Oh, and Tippett at 32 in 2006 and Vince at 32 in 2005)

I like the idea, but due diligence is absolutely key. From what I read of the situation, it truly did sound like he was quoted way out of context, and given what we now know about Mifsud, I doubt the credibility of his word very much.

So would the Melbourne officials, which would definitely play into Rendell's court. I'm sure we've all said things in haste or in an attempt to oversimplify an issue, but which were misunderstood by others. I think that's what's happened to Rendell.

Get him. He's only been out of the recruiting game for a couple of months. He will have been watching the current potential draftees for four years. He will have established networks. He & Craig built the Crows side that is flying at the moment. The side that Craig said was the best he'd coached in his time there.

Get him now, don't wait for the Collingwood 2IC to come off contract

It would've been PR poison five minutes after he got the flick. The AFL would've blown a gasket as well. Plenty has happened since then - the guy who killed him commiting credibility suicide being one - and time heals all wounds and all that.

Perfect fit really....

Correct me if I wrong but I thought we had offered the Pies guy the job and had to wait till his contract with Collingwood expired in October!

I know a little about Matt and he is a nice guy and easy to get along with but most importantly has a track record of good draft selections. We would be remiss not to speak to him, especially considering our current list and the angst over many of our draft selections of the last few drafts.

This could be a short term contract even? leading into a similar or other role

Not only Craig, but our "recruitment manager" Todd Viney worked with Rendell for a couple of years too. Maybe he could "consult" to us for this year.

Lets suppose there are two clubs and one is the MFC

MFC - short term contract till november

Club No.2 - 3 year deal

Which would you take?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
