I have just finished watching the press conference with Jack Grimes. Very impressed. He stood there and took all questions - easy, tough and stupid (and yes, some of the questions by the journos were sooo dumb). He might be young but his character strength is the steadiest, most upfront leadership I have seen since Junior was pushed aside. Maybe we got the right man for the job?!?

A natural leader and one hell of a smooth customer when it comes to the media spotlight. His appointment as captain is one thing I have no regrets about.

Best part is that his been able to stay on the park for 8 rounds. 2 more and his broken his record.

Noticed his brother got injured on the weekend, must run in the family.

I watched it too and I was thankful that he and the FD at Melbourne have faith in their vision and will keep moving down the Neeld path despite the results.

We have reached the end of the Neeld Path. There is no further to go unless someone pulls the plug out.

After 8 rounds?

Pretty short path.

Also, how is this relevant to this thread?

Agree. He is very impressive. Compared to some of the drivel that comes out of the mouth of Green, he is excellent. Composed, assured, oozing leadership. We got that one right for sure. He sets the standard. I'm glad he's not 'one of the boys' and is seriously committed to being all he can be.

What? Who would have thought?

Neeld who didn't do a psych test? Got it right?

Who hasn't turned around a club who hasn't been close to good for over a decade in a preaseason and 8 games?

Oh well i'm sure the dooms dayers will hijack this positive thread soon enough.

Sorry but I'm sick to death of people bagging Neeld.

Go Dees and well done Jack!

That interview showed he was a good choice for captain. Well done.

Spot on OP

Spoke well - I like how the club has come out against all the criticism and represented itself well! Now for a win!!!!

Dead set, you are a genius. Why bother reading the likes of Wittgenstein, when I can simply log into Demonland and follow the intellectual might of 'thaipantsman'.

A suggestion - google the media articles immediately following Bailey's sacking and check out who the so-called 'experts' (most of whom are now superficially fanning your fire - fickle mongrels that they are) reckon should get the senior coaching gig at the MFC - and, perhaps more importantly, what 'type' of coach the MFC needed to appoint.

It might, just might, cause you to temper your vitriol somewhat at the moment.

Given your form to date on this issue though, perhaps not ...

Line of the year. Award the trophy now.

He's the better man and Trengove should have been left to concentrate on football because he is not playing well at all

To be honest, Jack Trengove's deadpan voice leaves me less inspired after hearing it than I was before. Of the two current captains, Jack Grimes is by far the better choice.

Almost could have been grimesy and jones as co-captains. Trenners is the future, grimes and jones are the present. Maloney and green will soon be the past...

I really enjoy listening to Jack G speak. He's obviously a natural speaker - he's clear, articulate and nothing he says ever sounds rehearsed, trite or cliche. It's refreshing; it's been a while since we've had that.

Just watched the presser, and he is very impressive. But for the love of god someone get him a hanky or some codral!!

Well spoken young Captain, he comes across as a leader who would have thought!

press interview mean nothing, our last good captain, david.neittz was no good at press, he show it on the park, words are easy, actions are hard, show me on game day. Talk is cheap

Last good captain? Junior says hello.

Grimes is a very impressive spokesman.

Having said that, I would also like to see Jamar & Rivers (as members of the leadership group brought out to provide some support for Mark Neeld at the post-match press conference. There doesn't seem to be any hesitation in drafting Jack Watts as a spokesman and a bit more visible solidarity would only help the case.

I know Rivers isn't the most articulate of our players but, in my opinion, he's having a really solid year and merits a bit of showcasing. Of Frawley, Garland & himself, he's probably been the most consistent. Jamar speaks very well and should be very comfortable in front of the press after all this time.

Too bad he has no respect for them. Although, perhaps that's a good thing.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
