Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Oh and I hope no one expects any class from Sylvia. His pumping long kick to Sellar (who battled well but isn't going to mark over the top of 3) in the last quarter when he had a few overlap options on was very disappointing. Time and again in time and space he fails to use clever options. I'm sure Neeld's game plan allows for spotting up targets instead of bombing it when running free on the wing.

It was his first game back in over a month. Vision improves dramatically after a game or so. He is classy, and I'm sure he'll continue to tease us with that until he retires. I won't go so far as to say I expect classy kicking from Sylvia, but it happens from time to time when he can be bothered.

Some big positives tonight.

McDonald showed a lot of promise playing on a top forward, he is improving each week. Get used to him being there.

Macdonald showed why he is coaches pet.

Rivers is not done yet.

Magner loving this guy indestructible.

Bail showed signs at last.

Davey was like a mosquito most of the night.

Jones was magnificent early.

Jordie killed Goddard, Goddard wanted to kill Jordie.

Sylvia looked hungry but rusty

Neeld almost blew a gasket in the box, loving that.

Our team wanted it bad and that's a good sign.

All that with our forward line going missing, Dunn too quiet, sellar can tap but needs to mark a few, watts should have played on the wing to get him into the game, Howe didn't do enough..

Neeld has us on the right path. All we need is for everyone to step up.

Agree with this, just not sure what that bit means?

Hope the lads can bring the same intensity next week and for all games then the rewards WILL come, any drop off from now on and the critics will crucify us again. I'm sure the media will give us a rap this week for our intensity but will all say we've gotta maintain it to prove were on the improve.

Was personally rapt in the improvement 2nite, I did see a team that CAN b hard to beat.

Not fit enough. Another preseason away. Start to get a glimpse of how ferocious neeld wants us to play.

Nice to see signs of honest, accountable footy.

He didn't get a lot of possessions or completed tackles but he presence was having an adverse effect on the ainst around him.

It was very noticeable on the broadcast. Neeld will be pleased with his effort.

In that analogy, isn't the gun our kicking and our foot the scoreboard?

Good reply - you are spot on. However the analogy works out, our unpressured turnovers are gut-wrenching.

Early on (pre rain) our spread and run was as good as I have seen from most sides this year.

This has to be the minimun effort from every body, every week.

T.Mac and Jordie were super, Jones was BoG early on, would have him 2nd BoG after Dal Santo.

Bate played a smart game, and one of his better games.

Davey finally had some zip about him.

Totally agree here, i think one more big preseason and we will see a big improvement next year....this year about showing intensity, gradual improvement learning the gameplan, and finding out about the players.

Dave Misson would liked what he saw tonight. His work is crucial to our 13th.

I think few if any have mentioned the loss of Frawley, directing and running out of defence.

Tom McD will have learned a lot from Reiwoldt, and I still think he may become the big CHF that many had hoped Watts would become. Playing at CHB on a true athletic champion will be fantastic for him, especially as he actually won the individual battle on the night.

WE won the posessions tonight (338-325) for the first time this year - good. We didn't use the ball as well as St Kilda - bad.

Watts had his worst game in a while, Grimes did ok but must use it better.

It looked like we gave a sheed tonight which, bar about 20 minutes in the first 4 rounds, is a first for 2012.

Shame we have the cats at the hellary next week although we should show improvement from our last trip down there (or heaven help us all).

Can't agree with this. He smashed Sam Fisher. Subbing Dunn let Fisher off the hook and Sylvia gave us nothing in return. Stupid move. Should have been Watts wearing red tonight.

I get the point but we needed him to kick a couple not one. Sellar should have had the red for mine.

Couldn't agree more. Things changed, and JW contributed little. The only one with ZERO tackles in a team total over 100.

An improved effort. In the end we got done because St Kilda's older heads are far superior to ours.

We worked really hard when we didn't have the ball and made better decisions when we did have the ball, which was nice.

I still think we would have lost by a lot more had it not rained, because in the first quarter St Kilda were very much on top of us in disposals. They just failed to convert in front of goal.

Jordie McKenzie, the love of my life, was sensational, as was Tommy Mac in his 6th match.

Jones continued to work his arse off, and Bate and Morton keep improving which is great. Bail had his best game in ages too, and Grimes tore it apart in the third quarter when we needed to lift.

Horrible move subbing Dunn, when Davey was again running around like a headless chicken giving us nothing. Petterd would have also been handy tonight in the rain.

Unfortunately this was our best chance at a win for a while, but at least lets continue to see improved efforts over 4 quarters and we might control the damage.

i suspect Dunn got the red for not playing to instruction, will be at Casey next week is my best guess.

Yes it was a big call subbing Dunn. He wasn't great i know, but it left a big hole up forward. Long kicks on a wet night Watts was very lucky to stay on

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
