Casey Scorpions v Frankston

KC from Casey

Couch in!!

He would give us an armchair ride.

It's no guarantee he would give us this "armchair ride" but his intensity today was good. In AFL games I have seen him live, I reckon the speed of ball movement is too quick for him and he has to double think his first instinct. But he should be considered on today's game.

so your saying couch could just lounge around at afl level?

FRANKSTON Player #14

Mitchell BOSWARD 24/06/88 180cm 85kg

I might keep an eye on this bloke as a posible mature age recruit. He was impressive today against some potential AFL players.

Cale Morton was excellent. He put his body on the line on numerous occasions, inlcuding standing beneath pack marking, and was poised and deliberate in his disposal. In the last quarter he held his nerve when the crowd was yelling at him to kick it: he held it for as long as he could and fed it off at the right time. An impressive game.

I thought his disposal was absolutely disgraceful today. He reads the play well and makes space for himself but continually lets himself down by foot. Surely somebody else noticed this?

Just got back from Casey Fields where Casey won by 1 point. It was a bit difficult to make out the Dees players at times but here are my insights for what they are worth.

Fitpatrick continues to develop. He puts himself into a good position in almost every contest and is super quick for a big bloke. I am not a fan but he impressed me today. But his kicking is going to restrict his influence at AFL level.

Leigh Williams had a shocker. Tried hard and he is coming off illness but his marking and in-close disposal was ordinary.

Sam Blease is on shakey ground. He runs well but that is it. He tried to get around every opponent and often couldn't, his kicking long to position often ended up with an opposition mark, but his defensive efforts were absolutely horrible. He only ran when Casey had the ball and his intensity around the packs is absent. I am a fan of this boy but I don't want him doing this in a Dees jumper.

Tapscott was OK. Some great stuff but only on 3 - 4 occasions. Seemed to be a bit lost today.

In the last quarter he held his nerve when the crowd was yelling at him to kick it: he held it for as long as he could and fed it off at the right time. An impressive game.

Jai Sheehan had a lot of the ball across half back and is a really good kick, but a lot of his disposlas were under no pressure so it is a bit difficult to gauge. His timing for defensive spoilng was good.

Couch was good, and excellent in-close during important moments.

Troy Davis. A really good game. Dominated his opponent for most of the game, often left one out and won most of the one-on-one stuff. Good thinking and disposal off half back.

The game was a blatant lesson about the importance of the half-forward line. There were a lot of stoppages (which Frankston won really well), and there were a lot of free possessions across half back. But the the half-forwards running into the right place at the right time was a lack for both teams. Frankston got it right in the last quarter and almost stole the game. The only Casey player who played a good game through half forward was Fitzpatrick when he rested there. But he would not excell there at AFL level. There is no strong half forward at Casey whom the Dees could promote, on today's form.

If someone could tell me who is no. 14 for Frankston that would be good. Read the game really well, used his body well, was quick for his size and and outstanding kick.

Morton, Couch, Davis should be considered for promotion. Fitzpatrick maybe. They may promote Tapscott but it would be on potential not form.

Thanks Maldonboy 38.

Thats what I wanted to hear re Morton, showing desperation, willing to stand under the high ball & the like.

Good to hear Fitzy is coming steadily on.

Couch is a must, maybe for ,McKenzie.

Love to see Davis soon, but not right on the heels of TMac.

He made a couple of bad blunders right in front of the grandstand but these were overshadowed by mainly good disposal and decision making. His disposal was definitely NOT disgraceful in my opinion.

Am I right in saying that Tom Mac has done some good strong stuff up forward? Now I haven't seen him play, but is there any way he could be or become or much needed CHF??

the best thing about today was being upstairs for a free lunch & grog...

The match was really a scramble fest consisting of poor skills & decision making...

My thoughts on the Melbourne players who played today (remember this is against Frankston);

Blease, really has poor delivery, this kid should be able to hit targets easily but seems to panic & should work on improving his skills on his left to help him. He got a rocket up him at 3/4 time. He will probably be promoted, but really I don't think he derserves it on todays effort.

Davis; was very solid in the back line & even took the game on at times which was great to see. If he keeps that form up he will get promoted fairly soon.

Fitzpatrick; Jack played really well today, he provided a target as a deep forward & even stated to clunk a few marks. When he was on the ball he covered lots of ground, winning a lot of clear hit outs & nice palm downs to the midfielders. He is on;y a week or 2 away from getting a call up & I wouldn't be surprised if it was this week.

Morton; Cale had a stack of the ball across half back but as usual his disposal was extremely poor. Quite a few times instead of looking acroos the ground for options (while he had loads of time), he chose to bomb it long to where there were only Frankston defenders, so therefor it came straight back out. He still seems to panic & can't or won't use his left side. Cale is another who will probably get a call up, does he derserve it, No.

Tapscott, Played ok, but not dominant, played mainly across half forward.

I think he played better previous weeks, but who knows whether or not he will get promoted.

Tynan, I'm sure he didn't play today, I think the guy eskimo was talking about with his leg all bandaged up was no10???

Couch; he was very good again today, hard at it & covered heaps of ground. Is he too similar to Magner???, probably, but I reckon that is great. I reckon this week he will debut.

Lawrence; Started off the game really well but drifted out of it just as quick. He did continue to apply lots of tackles & hard chases, but is it good enough just doing that without getting possessions & goals???, my answer is No.

He is way off getting promoted.

Sheahan; I like this kid, he can get beaten in a contest at times, but rarely is he beaten twice in a row. He was very solid down back & was a central figure in lots of play switching, his skills are ok also. Probably won't see any action in the 1sts for a while, but I reckon he is well worth the punt.

Williams; I was really looking forward to seeing how he went today & I left realising my expectations should not have been so high seeing as it was his first game for ages & first game at this level. He looked very rusty but did a few good things during the game including kicking a goal. I will monitor his progress closely, as I feel he could make the grade.

Davey was a no show, I don't know if he was ever going to play at Casey today or not, but he should have in my opinion. Tle MFC players got back to Melb at 1.00am this morning, so he was probably catching up on sleep like the rest of them.

Very few MFC players or officials there today, which I found disappointing.

Casey player, Number 11; I don't know his name or how old he is, but this kid can really play. I have seen him a few times now & he is impressive. He just seems to float through the midfield & move forward at times winning possessions & he can take a really strong contested mark. Keep an eye out for him if you get to any Casey games this year.

Is cale going in hard KC?

No. At the whole game today and he tagged Dolphins young ball magnet No.38. who was half his size to half time, playing off half-back.. Turned over a fair bit as well and some poor decisions. Unimpressive to say the least.

Thanks DR. The player is Michael Riseley who last week made the first intake for the 2012 AFL Victoria VFL Academy, a select group of young players who will take place in a special development programme with the VFL.

Yes, he'll be able to play either end.

To me, I see a bit of Schwartz in him.

Hmmn, I was hoping he'd turn over a new leaf with a bit of pressure on him to get a kick & a game.

Maybe it'll take F'ing longer.

Thats probably why TMac came up instead of Cale this week. Lets hope Brett can straight the lad out then..... :)

I wondered that. So a bigger body already than #4? Does he look nearly ready for AFL CHF? The glimpses I have seen of him on TV suggests that he has a bit if confidence and some poise as well.

Frustrating that the reports on Morton are wildly conflicting, makes it bloody hard to figure out what actually happens. Thanks for the reports all the same, people.

Nice to see you're tempering your expectations, d-l.

Can't believe the amount of posters willing Morton on, really wouldn't bother me if he never wears a Demon jumper again, however if he does it will because he deserves it on form, not because he was a high draft pick. First round, last round draft pick absolutely irrelevant. If you are on a list, you are there because you have football talent - if he can't or doesn't want to get out of his comfort zone he no longer has a place on an afl list - same goes for each and every player on the list.

We have way too many potentials with 'high ceilings', give me a side full of 'goers' who play to their ceiling not 60% of their potential, who have some c@&t in them that don't like losing any contest and will do 'whatever it takes' (as opposed to just reading it on the way out the race). Blokes like Cale who have the height, the tank, the ability to be a gun but not the desire to get there just [censored] me to tears. he has this year to prove to Neeld that he can do it, I'm not holding my breath

I don't think he'll be strong enough yet. He could play there but will get smashed up by bigger defenders hurting him. He can play the role Watts did off a flank or in defence whilst adjusting. Thats why we got Clarke & we have Martin who can & still needs more time deep forward to develop him further.

We may as well develop Martin IMO as we wait for Watts & TMac to grow they're bodies. He's 6' 6" in the old, & quick as, agile and has good hands but needs more work to refine the skills, IMO.

He can do a Jamar, but as a forward if we allow him plenty of time in the role.

I'm impatient to see the arrival of Davis. IMO he'll be a wrecking ball like. Hard like Scarlett, hopefully.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
