when asked that they probably wouldn't be sponsoring the club this year, he said they hadn't heard back from the

club and that they were impossible to deal with.

If true, that is very worrying. I would actually raise that with the Director on the Board in charge of marketing. That should be investigated, because if true we have a serious problem.

Agree. You would hope that the poster raised this issue with the Club including issues why MFC were "impossible" to deal with. If not, the issue is potentially signifcant and this really is not the suitable platform for dealing with this.

We sacked Energy Watch allegedly because of the (private )racial rantings of Polis .Energy Watch in turn sacked him also for reportedly the same reasons, clearing what you would would believe is the obstacle to reinstating the sponsorship.Is it the case that we would have terminated the sponsorship irrespective of the Polis racial outpouring because Energy Watch couldnt/would'nt meet its sponsorship obligations ? If this is the position perhaps our moral highground is actually a bit flat .

Also, many other sponsors would have not wanted to be associated with MFC if we retained them as sponsor, technicalities notwithstanding, so the search for a BOJ sponsor would have become that much harder, not to mention the damage to our rep in searching for future sponsors.

Yes. The continuation of a partnership with EW was untenible. The damage was done whether Polis stepped down or not. EW was his baby. In Politics the term is "sh!t sticks" no matter how long you wash.

I'm thinking that like the TS disaster , we may be able to turn a negative into a win .

We can get the promised money from EW and end their sponsorship (as we have done) through the courts .

This leaves us open to more sponsor money coming in.

They did not compare all companies, and thus part of EnergyWatch's appeal - and thus, its appeal to those power companies making deals with Polis - was its high public profile through its sponsorships and heavy advertising campaigns.

Now that its public perception has gone to [censored], I expect that the company will go bust shortly.

Fairly shallow company isn't it, particulairly when the owner/CEO decide to air their feelings on the world through a FB page that can be read & photagraphed by anyone who befriends the page. To run a company like that you must be quiet and listen. To Polis it has all been fun & games thus far. Game Over.

I don't care what other sporting organizations did. We should be better than them. I hate that excuse.

We're supposedly now all about elite performance. This should apply to the top brass as much as it should apply to coaches and players.

We did the right thing bringing in an outsider in Neeld to radically change the culture of the place. Same must now go for head office.

Now I know very little relating to how businesses run, but I would have thought that the fact ASIC sat on this for so long without doing anything, and the fact that major Energy companies who I would imagine stood to lose a lot more than the MFC became involved with Energy Watch, would indicate that no amount of "due dilligence" around a potential sponsor, would have turned up enough for the club to shy away from such a sponsorship arrangement.

For example, let us concede that reasonable diligence would have shown that EW was dodgey and its founder a racist idiot. How do you know that Schwab didn't put all that to the Board but it was concluded by the Board that the potential cash was worth the risk. Why aren't you calling for the entire Board to be shot? Or only those who voted in favour of it. Because you don't know what really went on, but you are happy to call for Schwab's head.

He won't have to unless he can come up with his FOJ sponsor and a new BOJ sponsor. Contract is up at the end of the year and must be in doubt. I think CS has some great qualities and feel for the MFC but this incident looks like it could be fatal.

I don't think this is the best time to remove Cameron, but as I said a few months ago, I wouldn't be surprised if the board looks in a different direction and doesn't renew his contract.

He is going to need a big 6 months.

Re the budget situation now:

I can understand why the club is reluctant to draw down any of the 'standard' cash top-ups coming our way from the AFL because of the current shortfall.

But I can't understand why the AFL doesn't have a separate contingency fund to support the club for doing the ethical thing. The Demons actions also protected and enhanced the AFL's reputation overall. Why not make a special grant to tide us over?

Sue - why would/should the AFL support us for "doing the ethical thing"? we were involved in a bad business deal, that's our tough luck and we have to learn from it. I think the AFL would do the same to all Clubs.

I would be shocked if there aren't companies out there that can see the massive good publicity they will get by aligning to the MFC at this time. The club is down, but still leading the way in standing for what is right over financial gain. A few new sponsors and a few wins will turn everything around.

In breaking news, the MFC were set to announce a multi million dallar sponsor in the aftermath of recenet events, however this sponsor has pulled the deal and in turn thought it would be in their best interest from a publicity point of view to sponsor Matthew Newton instead.

• Kaspersky: Club supporter gets company he works for to sponsor the club in a time of need, reportedly left the club on bad terms.
  
• EnergyWatch: Record sponsorship deal announced on August 26, on August 27 the ABC reports EnergyWatch being investigated by the ACCC for "deceptive conduct". Racist Facebook rants lead to dunping of EnergyWatch and further investigations show poor past business operations in the past by Polis.
