Seeing no-one else has posted, here's the updated injury list:

Lucas Cook (groin) - 2 weeks

Michael Evans (back) - indefinite

Max Gawn (knee) - season

Jordan Gysberts (ankle) - 4-6 weeks

Neville Jetta (ankle) - indefinite

Liam Jurrah (wrist) - 3 weeks

Ricky Petterd (leg) - test

Jake Spencer (knee) - 1 week

James Strauss (concussion) - test

Colin Sylvia (back) - 3 weeks

Rory Taggert (back) - indefinite

Bummer for Cook and Gysberts, can't take a trick either one. Wondered why Gysberts wasn't mentioned in the Casey reports, he'd been good the previous week.

two weeks is no big deal for cook but that's ages for gysberts....

You are right he can do a bit of growing while he is waiting

And 6+ weeks means round 8 at best it would seem for Gysberts.

Add in that he has not been in great form up to now and 2012 is starting to look

like a disappointing year for him.

That's really really really [censored] about Gysberts. Would be nice if Cooky could get on the park too.

Sylvia only 3 weeks and no Magner is good news.

You've seriously gotta be [censored] kidding re Gysberts.

Can't buy a trick.

Go to the Dees web site it says Gysberts is out for 4 - 6 weeks.

I believe them

MELBOURNE

INJURED:

Leigh Williams (back) test

James Strauss (leg) 1-2 weeks

Colin Sylvia (back) 4 weeks

Jake Spencer (knee) 7 weeks

Michael Evans (back) indefinite

Liam Jurrah (wrist) indefinite

Rory Taggert (back) indefinite

Max Gawn (knee) season

ON THE BLOCK: Mark Neeld said straight after Saturday’s loss there would be changes, and there’s plenty of Dees who would be sweating. Sam Blease failed to have an impact before being subbed, Matthew Bate was ineffective when he came on, debutant Josh Tynan was just OK and Clint Bartram had just eight kicks. Even veterans Brad Green and Aaron Davey were well below par, while Brent Moloney was well down on last year.

ON THE CUSP: Hard-bodied VFL rookie Tom Couch was superb for Casey and has already been promoted. Expect him to debut in Round 2, while Cale Morton, Tom McDonald (three goals) and swingman James Sellar also impressed.

SAM LANDSBERGER’S FORECAST: Oh dear. An appalling Round 1 effort followed by the toughest trip in footy – a flight to Perth to face the red-hot Eagles. The stretch between Rounds 3-5 will be telling for the Dees with winnable games against Richmond, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda.

I wouldn't take Petterd to Subi after a couple of weeks of soreness in the Legs. give him a week @ Casey to settle.

Same with Strauss. Only played one VFL game I think.

So the others have to come from last weeks Casey Team. Sellar, Couch, TMcDonald, Morton, Bennell ?

I say bring Strauss back into the firsts. He was playing pretty good footy when he copped that elbow to the head. WC are down their two best smallish forwards, so he won't be taking on a big gun and we could really use his kicking to create play for us.

Curious.

No Dan Nicholson and no James Magner on the injured list.

Nicholson missed last week but isn't on the injury list although at least on Internet poster has stated that he heard Nicholson say he was likely to miss another couple of games. He was seen a fortnight ago at Casey Field wearing a moonboot (& stating it was a precaution).

Right?

Magner limped off with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

One of these blokes is in line for the this week's Mystery injury of the Week come Thursday night!

I doubt Magner will miss. For all we know it's just a minor knock or twisted ankle and they pulled him off rather than risk a real injury. It's not like he's a kid who needs to be babied through the season.

Yeah, I forgot about his Limp.

Maybe they're just assessing whether he'll miss or Not?

Strauss appears significantly under done given only one game to date after his horrendous injury

Magner limped off a couple of times. Appeared to be severe cramp.

I hope so. I get no comfort from his absence from the injury list.

We dont know anything about his injury and his age may have little to do with it if the injury is serious.

Taggert. What a mad pick up that was.

Agree. We should have foretold the future and known he would have done his back. Bloody BBP! Here were the comments on his selection at the time. I am sure you felt otherwise but remained silent.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
