Yes and Gysberts, Watts and tapscott out.

Love those boys, but they need form in the VFL before any AFL action.

Confusing post- or maybe I've had too much tonight and have missed something.

Based on Casey form, injuries and nab I believe the 22 will be

Bartram Frawley Garland Grimes Rivers MacDonald Blease Trengove Davey Watts Martin Green Petterd Clarke Jamar Moloney Jones Gysberts Magner Bennell Bate McKenzie

Tapscott to play one or two more at Casey along with a few others who need to find form.

I think Sellar will play, not sure who in place of but maybe MacDonald or Bennell. They played him on a medium forward against Hawthorn for a reason and he did ok. Just a feeling but time will tell.

Full back line are all leadership material

Half back have plenty of run

Midfield is hard, tough, clearence specialists

Half forward line is very versatile, hard to match

Full forward line has a nice balance marking and crumbing

Interchange has 3 midfielders, with tapscott the sub.

This team should be very hard to play against. We should definitely be favorites going into round 1 against Brisbane.

This was surprisingly easy for me.... I had hoped it would be extremely difficult but alas....

The only one I wasnt sure about was Bennell but we need a small with speed down there.

HB: Grimes, Rivers, Sellar

C: Trengove, Moloney, Blease

HF: Watts, Howe, Petterd

FF: Davey, Clark, Green

R: Jamar, Jones, Magner

IC: Bartram, Mckenzie, Martin, Tynan

Emerg Bate Bail McDonald

Would love it if in 2 weeks time Gysberts, Morton, Tapscott & Couch were in there....

I think 35 minutes of afl footy would be perfect for tappy

I get where you are coming from and if it was just one game in isolation I would agree but in the context of a season he hasn't had enough time on the ground. I think he would be better served getting more game time. Sometimes we put too much stake in the first game of the season and whilst I really want us to win it (will be p..off if we lose) and Tappy as a sub would certainly help the cause, we need to think of the season ahead and not just the first game.

Like your team 'tonatopia'

I'd find room for Sellar in the 22 , Probably have Green in the forward line but he could rotate in there with Watts and/or Davey .

I like your dash off half back (Pies like?) and the "outside the sqaure" thinking with Frawley is good .

Couch is a dark horse too but ya can't fit 'em all in the 22 !

Cheers

Team looks predominately good tonatopia however no disrespect there is no way Sam Blease could play HBF. He is very much an Andrew Gaff type player who runs forward and not incredibly hard backwards. Go to a Casey game and if you see him sprinting back following his opponent I'll pay for your ticket. Other than that very happy with team

Don't forget he played HBF in his few games last year. But I agree more suited in other positions.

Is Blease a walk up starter? I thought he would have had a run for Casey on the weekend.

No, but I think he will play. My line up, Bennell as Sub in case Grimes can't run out the game.

Bartram Frawley Rivers

Grimes Garland MacDonald

Trengove Jones Bate

Howe Watts Petterd

Martin Clark Davey

Jamar Moloney Magnar

Green McKenzie Blease

Bennell

Sellar Dunn Couch

FYI: I dont think Sellar has a matchup against Brissy, I think he will be brought into the team when they have 2 gorillas and we need some extra strength.

Tynan deserves a game. His NAB cup was very good for a first year player.

Nield has played Bennell every NAB Cup game and he was not playing for Casey on Saturday evening, so I think we can safely assume he will be a starter on Saturday. I think Tappy and Blease will get one more run at Casey before coming in unless it's decided that Grimes needs a bit longer, in which case one of them will go straight into the back line. For me it's a toss up between Dunn and Sellar as to who will be the emergency, but I feel Dunn may get the nod and go onto the Interchange bench.

Garland - Rivers (Longer/Leuenberger) - Bennell

Grimes - Frawley - Bail

Watts - Jones (Rich) - Trengove (Rockliff)

Howe – Clark - Petterd

Dunn - Green - Davey

Jamar – Moloney - Bartram (Black)

Magner – Martin - McKenzie

Tynan

Notes:

  • I wouldn’t take too many underdone players into the game. Grimes would be the only one I would risk and I would also play Tynan as sub as insurance.
  • I think we are already too slow in the midfield with Moloney, Magner, Jones, Trengove and McKenzie. For this reason Couch, Bate and Gysberts miss out and Davey will have to spend time in the midfield.
  • Bartram’s kicking in the backline slows our transition into attack. I would play him as a hard tag on Black.
  • Dunn is fit and played ok against Hawthorn. I would give him a chance to recapture his 2010 form given that Sylvia and Jurrah out.
  • Three tall defenders are enough and four leaves us too slow on the rebound. Seller unlucky to miss.
  • We are weak in the small backs department. Hopefully Bennell can improve and make the role his this year.
  • Watts should be played on the wing until he gets strong enough to play KPF.
  • Blease hasn’t done enough to earn a spot.
  • Nicholson was a bit disappointing in the preseason, but I think he will be better on the bigger grounds. Not sure of his fitness.

Merrett ? Since Brown went down Merrett has gone forward. Resting rucks ? I prefer our structure with Sellar in the side.

This is the team I'd like to see, but I doubt I will.

I'm a little over players like Bate, JMac, Davey, Bennell, Bail, Dunn (scrapes in), etc.

I like what Couch and Magner bring to the side and I really like Tynan - he's hard, but has some class. The sooner we get Strauss and Tapscott into the side the better, but they probably need another game, or two at Casey.

Watts is presently better suited to a wing than a key forward role, so let's see what he's got in round one up the field at AFL level.

I think a few outsmart themselves when doing a positional 22. I think we need around 10 mids to rotate through the middle and I can see Couch being apart of that for Rd 1.

Key Backs (5) - Frawley, Garland, Grimes, Rivers, and Batram.

Key Forwards (5) - Clark, Davey, Howe, Martin, and Watts.

Ruck (1) - Jamar

Mids/Rotation players (10) - Moloney, Magner, Trengove, Jones, Bate (FWD), Green (FWD), McKenzie, Bail (DEF), Petterd (FWD), and Couch.

If you have condemned Davey, Dunn should be a vacant lot by now.

I'm losing patience with Aaron, but Dunn has nothing but half a season a few years ago to fall back on.

I have no idea what Bail is doing on that list...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
