Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melbourne and the Football World mourn Jimmy Stynes

I have never been so proud of Gary, he spoke so well and straight from the heart.

On your note Lace Out, I thought about how You'll Never Walk Alone gets such a powerful feeling from the Kop at Anfield but I just don't think it would work in our case. However there is another bit of inspiration from Liverpool that I thought could work with us.

Obviously their moto on the shield, "you'll never walk alone" comes from the connection to the song, and there has been a lot of talk about Jimmy's moto of "Whatever it takes" and how we should use it. I suggest that we add it to our logo/shield, I'd say where EST 1858 and move that somewhere else.

I remember Jimmy talking about the logo and about how everything on it is a part of the Melbourne Football Club history. Jimmy is a massive part of us, he had a profound influence on the way the game was played, his story is legend across the entire competition, and he saved out club in its darkest hour. And that simply scrapes the surface of his accomplishments.

Add his story to our shield that has something to say with every part of it.

EDIT: I've tried a version of it, but my graphic design skills have definitely deteriorated! But it gives an idea of what I picture.

I don't think it's seriously going to hit me that Jim is no longer with us until round 1 then round 4. I always used to look over and check to see if Jim was sitting in the area he sat at, at the G then if he was there I thought he was ok and relieved to see him. After games when I left I would normally walk past him. Now when I look he will be absent.

I always hated listening to the news on the radio just in case he had passed but weirdly enough when I heard on SEN i wasnt surprised. I went to work thought about Jim and came home and watched sunrise that I taped that morning. The stupid thing is I knew Jim had passed, I had watched all the news networks and it wasnt until I was watching sunrise later that night and Kochie turned to Mel and said I have some sad news JIm Stynes has passed away and Mel just gasped put her hands over her mouth and said oh no. It hit me more then because I actually saw someone react to it. Stupid story I know but thats how it affected me.

Im still trying to get through yesterdays and todays papers. Its just amazing how much he had an impact on everyones lives. I met him heaps of times and he was just awesome. Words will never be enough for what he did to our club.

Then watching The Footy Show tonight and seeing Garry do what he did. He was just amazing and I have no idea how he managed to get through that. When he mentioned the photo I was expecting a photo of the two of them and i thought gosh Jim wouldnt look to good but when I saw the hands together I just teared up. What a beautiful photo that was. Well done Garry you spoke brilliantly.

That was amazing from Garry on TFS. Absolutly heartfelt and honest. Please, please find yourself a copy and watch it. Wonderful tribute.

Gutsy from Lyon - honest, deeply personal and moving. That he looks up to Jimmy as the man he'd like to be, while still delivering that eulogy, shows just what a figure Jimmy was and how he touched people.

The AFL and football(ers) get a pretty rough trot at times, as do the supporters, but the response to Jimmy's passing has been remarkable.

Paul "Fatty" Vautin just gave a very brief tribute to Jim on the NRL Footy Show here in Sydney. He mentioned he had been a guest of the MFC at a luncheon and Jim was the perfect gentleman and looked after him very well. A very respectful audience and panel, all applauded. A nice touch for what is usually a very parochial NRL show.

It was Jim's mantra; not a bad suggestion. The "est 1858" is still important.

Absolutely, I wouldn't want to give that away but I reckon his mantra could have a place on our emblem.

Lace out-- Anthems and comaraderie Is what we need. I'm a big reds fan and to see liverpoolfc supporters get together live makes you feel part of something very important especially at times like these. A true tribute would be for 5000+ supporters to meet before the game next week and walk to G singing You'll never Walk Alone or something to unite us all ... Always felt this but even moreso in times of mourning or adversity which Melbfc have experienced a lot of in recent times.. TIME TO UNITE

In dublins fair city, where footy is witty

Lived a man once known as Jimbo Stynes

When we 1st saw him play

We looked in dismay

We couldn't understand what Northey had done

At VFL Park

That god forsaken mark

It Lit a spark in ol Irish green veins

We'll never forget the daYs

of 264 games played

And that unlikely duet of grind

Twas of Strawbs & Stynes

RIP

Beautifully said Garry. Tears shed in our household with that wonderful tribute to Jim. Thanks Garry.

Agreed. I would challenge any Dees supporter (and many in the general population) to watch that and not tear up.

Thanks for the link satan.

Gazza really does say it all, awesome, thanks Gazza, I now feel better with a release of emotions, (as if we need the extra moisture here in Qld).

Channel 9 doing the service live, can't imagine how big it's going to be, I think Jimmy will stop the nation on Tuesday.

Just watched the footy show wow Garry really loved jimmy and that speach was as truly heart felt one could write well done Garry. I feel sometimes someone as inspirational as jimmy taken to early has the potential to change many lives for the better I for one have been feeling pretty sorry for myself of late due to work (or lack of it) and other pretty insignificant things. Well that stops today life is to short and I'm going to start living again!!

One man takes us on a journey and we see the world a different way.

After watching Gary what struck me is that Jim is living on in him and no doubt the countess others he has touched.

Gary did himself, our club and most imporatantly Jimmy proud last night.

This has taken a long time to type as I wipe away the tears of loss, joy, sadness and pride.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
