Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So, no more excuses for a performance that shouldn't have been highlighted the way it was?

Every poor effort by Jack, no matter how infrequent, is highlighted by the same 'noise makers.'

I am sick of the excuses, we need to expect more from our journalists...

Would you reward his output from Friday with a senior game round 1? I agree the media highlighted it moreso because of who he is however I would have ranked him in our bottom 3 performers on Friday and if I ranked on perceived effort I would have put him at the bottom. As an example watch Watts pressure a ball carrier then watch the example set by Tom McDonald in the last quarter. Watts made very good headway late last year not suprisingly after he was made a sub. I think he is a massive talent but his performance was not up to scratch and he either needs to perform or work on his craft at Casey. I dont care if he spends the year at Casey playing as the main forward if that is what is best for his development however performances like Friday cannot be rewarded with a senior birth.

A point on that - Watts has never really had any form of physical protection from his team mates. Clark being there will make him walk taller in that regard IMO

Add to that, Clark is a mongrel. He has massive attitude. Exactly what Watts needs to develop. Again the physical and mental fortitude. It could be a very good match. I hope they develop a good on and off field relationship. The teacher and the student

Unless thats what the coaching staff are wanting him to do???

Not sure if this kinda thing has been posted already but let's have a look at some other KPP and Nic Nat to see (stats wise) where old Jack is at now after 40 games. I reckon he's exactly where he should be.

Matches Disposals Goals Behinds Tackles

Nick Riewoldt 40 577 39 31 49

Travis Cloke 40 461 28 46 57

Jonathan Brown 40 503 43 26 46

Nic Nat 40 469 14 14 144

Jack Watts 40 571 33 17 69

Sure these don't tell the entire story but at least it's something to compare with.

Edit: Sorry, the numbers don't line up.

This is my issue with his NAB cup performance - some are condemning him to failure after 1 poor showing (let's not count round 1 as it was that horrible 20min format and torrential rain)

Let's see how he goes this week vs the Hawks with Clark down there in the forward line with him

I don't condemn any player on a couple of NAB Cup performances.

If you are doing the selfless, team things you are a chance in my view, even with shaky form.

And I think Watts has been 'rewarded' enough for his performance...

Not condemning him to failure but the performance should be evaluated for what it was. I would play him against Hawthorn as well as the following week as he should be given every opportunity but I would hope for significant improvement if he is to get a round 1 birth.

Best contribution of the day for mine.

Send a copy to Malthouse and the others.

He is going to be a star in our premiership team.

Being criticised in the media isn't such a bad thing . I want to see how Jack responds . It might provide a spark . Most really talented sportspeople tend to like to prove their detractors wrong . He's a big boy and should know how to handle it .

So the media criticism has shifted from the whole team to one bloke . This may have the effect of galvanising the team/club . It seems we've got a whole lot of blokes all hungry to play round 1 . Jack should just be treated like any other player .

Having Clark and now probably Martin down forward should free up Jack to play as a roaming forward . At least it looks like Neeld will use him in this role for the time being .

He's not a true CHF (yet) . Some fans and some in the media are struggling to come to terms with this . I reckon we need to start thinking outside the square a bit with how Jack can best be used ( for now )

Cheers

Those numbers do stack up but all of Johnno Brown, Riewoldt and Cloke were recognised for their work ethic and will to get to every contests.

Jack Watts work rate needs to be the same as the names mentioned.

He should be a better player then what he is atm.

He'll be a good player at worse but if he doesn't have the hunger, he's wasting a siht load of talent.

Those knocking his performance v maggies should have another look at his tackling and knock ons. His involvement created 6 scores and he consistently helped create space on the forward line. I suspect that was his role, which I have little doubt will change when Clark is back, and change again when Jurrah plays.

As long as he pleases the coaches, he pleases me.

I agree. When you watch the game again he has small roles in a lot of scoring shots. A bit of pressure here, a clever block there, a nice flip over the head as well. The problem is not that he can't play but that he can't take a grab, but he's still a long way from getting the strong body. Enough problem is he doesn't get the ball kicked to him enough. It might be positioning or reading of the play but I think a lot of it is team mates just used to kicking to the likes of Green, Petterd, Jurrah and Howe.

While I agree with you about the little things that Watts did, Jeremy Howe's been around less time than Jack. The difference is, he presents like mad. Whether that's because his role is to present or because Jack doesn't have the desire to do that is unknown.

Gibbs took a couple of years to get going - so your assessment he was excellent from the get go is wrong

Kreuzer has shown glimpses - and been injured - so it's difficult to assess. Also, Kruezer was drafted as a man mountain - Watts was drafted as a 17 year old skinny school kid - this makes an enormous difference when looking at KP prospects

It's popular to get stuck into Watts - a blonde haired private school kid, drafted to a club seen as toffee nosed elitists

You could immediately see how the collingwood players attacked him as soon as he came onto the ground

Watts should never have played that year - it served no real purpose other than to make him cannon fodder for the masses who like to attack

Reality is - with his age at draft time, with his body type, with his previous experience, Watts needs time. He won't start hitting his straps until he is 23 - 24

People need to accept that

He took huge steps last year, anyone who fails to recognise that doesn't know football, he will continue to take steps

Good post.

I maybe a little out here ...

2006 Gibbs Excellent from early days

2007 Kruezer very good from early days

Beg to differ, captain.

Blues fans are wondering if Gibbs will ever live up to his promise, and are starting to get nervous that Kreuzer might not either.

By June the press could be saying the MFc wasted 2 No.1 picks.

We can't let down the press!

Blow the press. They are gossips and tragics. The only thing they know for sure is whether or not it's time for a drink. (Hint: it's time for a drink.)

We'll take our own counsel on picks wasted or not.

Oh, he's got a good set of hands & /can take a grab & Pack mark. In his weight division... In the TAC he won the game against Vic Country I think @ the 'G' with a mark & goal seconds to go.

Jeremy Howe is nearly a full Year Older than the Old man Watts, and has a stronger frame at this point. More physically mature.

After watching the replay again, concentrating on JW. i find the comments of Mick Malthouse in public the most outrageous bit. He really got stuck in.

Now Jack has a huge amount of improving possible but he did quite a lot of team stuff.

Assists that SHOULD have been goals & if they were he would have been praised.

Mick Malthouse a quick phone call to your old deputy would have been more apropriate i reckon. But Jack will give us the answer.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
