Yeh at the crow mate. There's an interview just went up on youtube with him at one of their training sessions. Seemed pretty resigned. Kinda feel for the guy but happy he's moved on.

Cheers, i will have a look. I was sure he went to Port! Wonder where that came from???

Oh really? If a GFC doesn't compromise the ability to get money then I'd like to see what does

I must admit i had a bit of a giggle at the "GFC doesnt inhibit the ability to get a sponsor". We obviously havent been shaking the money tree hard enough.

You might want to ring Port Adelaide. Might save a little embarassment!!

WYL: "Hello, may I speak to Dean Bailey please ?"

Power reception: "Um...Dean Laidley no longer works here as an assistant."

WYL: "No ! I know that ! I said Dean BAILEY, you know the ex-Melbourne coach ! You have him there on your payroll !"

Power reception: "Oh, er, he used to be before he was the Melbourne coach, but sir, you may want to do a bit of research and brush up on that temper of yours, I believe he is working for the Crows now as assistant to Brenton Sanderson."

WYL: Yes, so I was right he was there, thank-you for your assistance.....click...{hang-up}....

I am 25 years old and have been supporting Melbourne since 1990. My father since the late 60s, and his brothers shortly thereafter.

I have over the last few years developed a very frustrating sense of anger at the club. I don't seem to share the same mentality and optimism as others here, which fuels my frustrations. Since the 30+ goal loss against Geelong, I have developed a sense of hatred at the club, purely because I throw hundreds of dollars at an organisation that seems to be completely inept at expanding and improving. I keep hearing that the club is growing, but I am not sure what people compare it to. In perspective, the MFC is still a very small, nothing club that will never, ever be bigger than the establishment.

A few questions I would love to ask the club.

1. Why don't we have a major sponsor yet? I don't accept "they are working on it" as an answer. If they don't have a major sponsor by the pre-season cup, the CEO must be sacked.

2. Why are we near-last in social media rankings? Our social media manager and their team must be sacked. It is free marketing FFS. New teams, Sydney, Brisbane, North all have more followers and fans on Twitter and FB. These outlets are very important for brand growth and expansion. Why are we near-last?

3. Why have we seen no growth on membership figures year-on-year despite:

  • Casey "expansion"
  • New HQ
  • Extensive re-branding
  • Free marketing via social media (see No.2)

Who will be held accountable for these failures?

I am sick and tired of pathetically optimistic supporters sticking up for this lame excuse for a professional sporting club. We must start seeing results in 2012 across ALL fields, off-field on on.

You can't get around this. Don't give me any of this "the club is working on it" or "we have a promising future in Casey/Olympic Park/Docklands/Thailand/Japan/Whatever.

I've been hearing this rubbish for going on 10 years. Why aren't their results? It's quite clear that you need growth off-field across all facets in order to be successful on field. So where is the growth, and who will be held accountable?

AGM is a good time to ask number of those questions I would have though too Praha.

you seem to be a bit of an expert on all these topics therefore i suggest you pick up the phone and call the club to offer your assistance.

As a Long suffering Melbourne supporter i find this the best time of the year as we havnt really done anything wrong yet. Enjoy the time and give the boys a big pump up. If we are in the same boat come seasons end i will indeed share your frustrations.

I reckon you make a number of valid points. I have found myself asking some of these questions recently as well.

The MFC marketing department is a sham. I have had several discussions via email with them, and there knowledge and understanding of the market they operate in is well below par.

As for social media, I believe Ricky Petterd's sister heads that up. She had no real experience in the area, but got the job so we could sweeten Ricky's deal. I agree, its free advertising, should be better.

I also feel that if Schwabb fails ton deliver a second major sponsor after catergorically claiming we would have a 2nd sponsor when the first was announced, he HAS TO GO! He was lucky to survive 186 and if he isn't up to the task, then he has no future at the MFC !

OP smacks of agenda, the post above confirms same for me.

All of the OP's concerns would be adressed if we started consistently winning games of footy, maybe we should have a shake up of the footy dept................

I don't understand the opening post at all.

I would argue almost the complete opposite, believing we are in the best position list wise and financially than for decades.

Lets wait for the season proper starts before contemplating trips to the chook shed with the vodka bottle & shotgun

To praha123 - I'd suggest looking at other aspects of your life that may be driving your feelings of frustration and impotence, cause the club is in a better place than it has been for several decades in terms of our ability to compete for flag over the coming seasons.

FACTS: We have no major sponsor and the pre-season is 2 weeks away. We were in a similiar position the last time we were sponsorless

We are the worst represtened club in terms of merchandise in AFL stores state wide

Our branding has not grown at all in 10 years.

We are near last in terms of social media 'Likes' and 'Followings'

We were the laughing stock of the AFL last year when we played in 'Pink' jumpers all season after Mr Schwabby wanted to return to the 'deep' red of the 60's.

We have an apparel sponsor that sucks.

We have no innovative of forward thinking merchandise.

The new 'emblem' looks great when produced in large print, but is totally undesirable for thumbnaail reproduction.

- You may all see these as little things, but to me it stinks of laziness and 2nd rate attitudes by those that are responsible for selling the club. Call it an agenda if you like, i don't care much.

Now having got that off your chest do you feel better?

I have complained in the past about those very subjects however a number of them have been changed.

I have a better feeling about the way the club is being run than 12 months ago.

Remember we only look at the MFC there is plenty of poor result outside of the MFC

No one is perfect there will be mistakes in the future.

The trick is to make sure we do not repeat them.

I would feel better if I had confidence in the staff the club have operating the 'business' part of things. Thats not a dig at CS but more at those staff who seem to treat the MFC as a part time business. Some may want to fire back over that, hut my experience with staff at the MFC is that their is a level of unprofessionalism.

Praha & Still Woey it's a Marathon not a sprint, we started from a long way back after the failed merge Hawthron got their act together 10 years ahead of us. You can fast track things and get a team that will push for the 8 most years without every really being a Premiership threat eg North, Freo.

We finally have stability and we are on the improve there will be ups and downs and 2011 was a big let down but IMO it's just a reinforcement as SW22 says you don't get Premierships with high draft picks alone. We now realise that and as we have all seen the changes since the Kardinia Park game have been massive.

The Casey experiment is a very good move and one we will see benefits of long term. So as frustrating as it is your a supporter put 2011 behind you and see how the changing of the guard goes but please if Neeld doesn't have us 5-0 at Round 5 please don't hang yourself unless there is a massive change whilst we will improve we are still going to finish anywhere from 7th to 12th depending on injuries etc but I foresee and end to regular beltings and bruise free footy

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
