Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm as [censored] off as anyone that we drafted him instead of Martin or Morabito - can you imagine Trengove/Martin ripping up the comp for the next 10-15 years? However this was not the clubs fault, $cully was seen as the no. 1 pick a long way out and if we had have overlooked him can you imagine the outcry that MFC supporters would have made?

I would have backed BP or TH's decision whatever they chose. So i do not think that is a huge issue, particularly if DM had played a few Pivotal games....The Media Build up sells papers and advertising.

As i said before i blame no one, we got dudded by some high class shafters, but i will always be pi$$ed off about it when reminded.

The Above articles do not help.

I think you're giving Allen too much credit. He just waved a big fat cheque book. Money is the elephant in the room when $cully starts waffling about "playing finals", "building a club", "opportunity" and being "courageous" (I can't believe he said that about himself!). He will continue to colour it the way he needs to but his Dad's appointment was the exclamation mark on his and his families real motivation.

I did consider that on second thought.

I think it was an integral ingredient.

The money was the major factor, but alone it may not have been enough.

From 'The Age' this morning - 'More recently, his father Phil's acceptance of a full-time recruiting job at the Giants has caused controversy, but Scully supported his dad's right to pursue his ambition and said the fact his wage had been included in the club's salary cap didn't worry him. ''It had nothing to do with me,'' he said.'

What is he thinking? That the AFL have incorrectly linked his dad's salary to Tom's recruitment? Doesn't he see the blatant conflict of interest?

Message to Tom; don't do puff news stories; sometimes they blow up in your face. And get a good media manager. Or just shut up.

It will be in his new contract to do many many "Puff" Media Pieces...We will learn to despise this Rat just as much off Field as on...i have no doubt.

I feel many here are blowing this out of proportion, blinded by their obvious hatred for the kid.

I think he handled himself well in that article. He's left, probably made the wrong decision, but we all make mistakes. At the end of the day you don't get offered $2,000,000 for one year every day, and who wouldn't leave a broken company for a considerably higher salary?

I'm still [censored] that he left, but I feel many are hating on him for the sake of it. Good luck to him. I hope we smash them. But seriously, get over it guys.

I definitely don't begrudge him for taking the money and going.

But some things he said in that article, the way he treated the club and his teammates throughout the year, really [censored] me off.

I won't be taking any pity on him whatsoever when he wrecks his knee.

feeling incredible levels of hatred for this individual. I once had a boss that was an absolute **** and I thought that was hatred... but I had no idea

just picture moloney, rd 13 next year, in the centre with him.. 4th quarter we lead by 120 and he buries him in the turf with a few choice words

now I feel better

It's unlikely that he will wreck his knee. His problem is more that he will need to moderate his training regime to ensure that he can keep playing. It's doable but he will need to compromise on the high levels of fitness that he previously was able to achieve.

That's where i sit...

If T$ had said "Look i have been offered a huge contract to play for this new Franchaise...it's too big not to take...Thanks for all you have done...Blah Blah Blah"...i would have given him a little respect (maybe)

But he just keeps throwing us this rubbish as if we are all clowns...it is rather insulting to read these articles considering he was our number one pick 2 years ago.

I'm now of the belief that he signed with the Bogans before he was drafted by us in 2009. Up until 'the decision' was announced I thought he was going to stay.

This is a really, really interesting point. Kev was appointed 9th November...draft wasn't until 26th. There was already a GWS board in place - not sure about whether SOS was up there yet. Sheedy could have, as part of his appointment, said 'lets chase the #1 draft pick from this year" immediately, outlining draftee contracts that would come into the GWS acquisition window etc. He could have met with Tom in those two weeks (or even before he was officially GWS coach), said to him 'we'll give you $6mil in 2 years time, just put up with Melbourne til then' and he'd be on his way. Interesting point as a part of this was that JT and T$ were both offered 3 year contracts rather than the usual 2 upon their drafting. Trengove immediately accepted while Scully declined and signed the normal draftee contract.

I hate to call that conspiracy angle...but it does have some genuine merit in hindsight. It would mean that he hadn't signed anything in 2010 with GWS - which he hadn't, and which was what the journos were questioning - but rather had signed it way back in 2009.

mmmmmmmmmm, I kinda feel for the kid. As was mentioned a long time ago what would you do if you were offered a big pay rise to go somewhere else. I myself at this very minute am weighing up whether to move to the other side of the country to double my salary. Luckily for me i will be FIFO of my hometown and will be 3 weeks on 3 off. Loyalty to my current employer is certainly something to think about. Money is definately the major factor. When asked by a colleague today i simply said no. I did this as my mind is not yet made up but i do not consider myself a "liar" or "dodgy" or any of the other things this 20 year old is being called.

At the end of the day none of us herecan categorically say you would not take a pay rise of up to 100% to do the exact same job next year. I cant.

I'm disturbed by the attitude of many here.

The thing I'm annoyed about is that we didn't get Martin because he is by far the best player from that draft.

Not sure I can agree with that Clint. I think we had deficient;

leadership (though they skimmed Junior after the fact) /

top-end talent (especially in the key 6-8 odd year player range)

Whilst holding picks '1 & 2' in a good draft.

All that within the period where clubs could be raided of 1 player.

If we had by far the best player from that draft, Trengove, and the above.. who would you have selected as geedubess recruiter/tiler extraordinaire?

I was probably being a bit facetious, my point is, what's done is done and there is no need for the hate.

I do agree that he probably should just focus on his footy but you can't blame him for taking the money. We picked up Mitch Clark who apparently only wanted to leave Brisbane to be closer to his family in WA. You win some, you lose some but by gaining Clark and two first round picks we are winners all round.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I do agree his comment about joining as a "courageous" decision is rubbish.

I think we have been quite reserved.

Here he is, with all of his lack of self-reflection and self-awareness (and father awareness) sitting in judgement of our club.

We can move on, and we are.

But part of moving on involves pointing out when a guy just needs to shut up...

Nice thread title, Scott Baio played a lawyer in Arrested Development named Bob Loblaw (say it with an American accent). That has nothing to do with anything, but it makes me laugh.

Taking that amount of money would be hard to resist, people would still be angry and call him a traitor and a money grabber whatever happened.

He's brought the hatred on himself with his devious ways of dealing with it, his comments before, during and after the event.

There's no point trying to reason with any of us that can't stand the rat, it's footy, it's passion, it's entertainment, it's business, it's our club and we're a big messed up family.

Turn your back on the family and you're gunna get whacked.

Its therapeutic.

$ulldog leaving because of internal disharmony to go to GWS would have to be the biggest [censored] move in history. Look at us now- with Neeld, Craig and Misson at the helm we are in the best shape I have ever witnessed. Tom wanted to go to the GWS rabble and they both deserve each other. The irony is that in the current shape we are in, Sully would have thrived.

Now he dies an inconspicuous death in Black Town. Cest la vie, Au revouir, thank your mother for the rabbits- I shed no tears.

He talked about all the support he got from the other players then he disses them by saying one of the reasons he left was because of the disharmony between different groups of players. Oh please you little twerp.

Agree on the little twerp bit . However I think you got the context wrong and I feel strange defending him, but he said "disharmony with some players and the admin".

I am happy to move on. He has gone. We are still here. However he is a self professed liar.

He said he had not been approached in his March presser and included his management and family. I am not talking about when he signed, I couldn't give a rats. I repeat he said he had no approach from GWS whatsoever.

SOS the List Manager has since said he made him/management an offer in 2010. TS has now admitted he got that offer and knew of it in 2010. Guilty.

I don't hate the kid. I feel sorry for him that he has publicly exposed himself as a liar. He is not a murderer, armed robber etc, but he has a diminished public character.

I am happy for GWS that they will have a publicly exposed liar as their inaugural captain. Their values are on show for all to see.

Now I move on.

Let's face it.

An honest interview on the subject from Scully would be short and sweet.

"The offer of $6million over 6 years with some cream on top for the old man was too good to be true so I jumped ship and signed up with Sheedy's mob."

End of interview.

if he had said that & then shaken Cam Schwab's hand and left i would have been ok with that. Disappointed but ok. What we got though is just cheap lies.

Ah everytime this kid opens his mouth I get more angry. All the little pot shots. He has spat in everyone involved In this club continually. I hope we give him the worst day of his life when he returns to the G. I'm gonna have to restrain myself from jumping on the ground and giving him a hip and shoulder myself haha.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
