Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wish we could get Robbie Flower in to mentor this guy. Being a rake is obviously playing on his confidence and he's struggling with stuff that came naturally when he was still in the juniors.

If he's gonna stay as skinny as he is then he's gotta take it on the chin and learn from someone who was an elite player because of it, or maybe took it on as an asset. Has all the talent to come good just needs a decent role model who can convince him to back himself and go hard at the footy.

Good positive suggestion.

Me thinks if Morton is ever going to be hard at the footy, he'll do it under neeld. If not, you'd have to say his days at Melbourne are over.

aha... masturliking

At risk of boring you all to tears, at 191cm and 78kg he is still too small and too weak to be a better than average footballer.

I know this has been said ad nauseum, but the fact no one at the club has managed to get the kid to put on size and strength is amateurish, not to mention embarrassing. This is a professional sports club and strength and conditioning should be it's bread and butter. You don't need Mission nor the Lexus Centre to get strong. You don't even need to be a gifted athlete. This is a reflects on the club more than young Cale.

If anyone tells me James Hird was a rake and Cale needs to plays like Jimmy; JH was two centermetres shorter and 11kg heavier. If anyone tell me strength and size will compromise endurance, they need to do some (intelligent) reading.

You can talk about culture, skills, potential, recruitment, development, the press and a whole lot of other [censored] that can't be quantified let alone understood, but increase Cale's squat by 50 kg, deadlift by 50kg and bench by 20kg (assuming he lifts at all) and he will be improve his game significantly.

Wats Kate Moss doing this weekend perhaps could use her on HBF.

God help anyone that says there something left in this kid I'm over it with him. Mismanaged my ass. If he couldn't walk into a club and learn the fundamentals of putting your head over the ball and earning a freakin kick, then I'm sorry, wasted talent or not, even if Dirty Harry put a gun to his head now and said where hve you been for the last 3 yrs his response would probably be,,, 'I just gots to know' how many did you have left b4 you were to trade me. He has to go form or not by EOY

I'll give up on Cale only when he's officially De-listed.

My body type is the same as Cale s and the players I'd be looking to for inspiration would be Michael Tuck and Dustin Fletcher, these are the guys I see as having the same frame as Cale. If he can reach his footy potential he has the body to allow him to play well into his late 30s.

Lets ensure we get the facts right people.

  • Morton has put on 12 kilos since drafted.
  • Morton served a strong apprenticeship of games in his first two years and then after strong pre-seasons in the last 2 got injured right at the commencement of preseason games ruining any momentum.
  • Morton won the Larke medal at the under 18 championships playing off a half back flank yet this will be the first year he has trained to play in our defence.

Morton does not need to become a dogged inside player but he does need to go when its his turn. I would not be surprised if he improves markedly under the new regime but will need time to find his feet. Best of luck today Cale and for the rest of the year I hope this season has you having alot of people eating humble pie.

Tuck and Fletcher never hesitated to get in and put their head over the ball!

Cale has been offered another opportunity - he had better take it and do the heard work.

He will, rightly, be under intense scrutiny today and must deliver something special!

Yes, for sure, he has to have that Tuck & Fletcher courage.

You succeeded and you are patently wrong.

BTW, the Club site has him listed as 192cm and 87 kgs.

There is no way Morton is 87 kgs. I have stood next to him and I am 90kgs. I reckon he would be 82-83 kgs at best.

BTW It wouldn't be the first time that a club has put misinformation on its player profiles.

Some more facts for you:

Morton need another 8kgs

Morton has been gifted more games than any player in memory (maybe Brad Miller qualifies too!) Hasn't helped him one bit.

I am sick of hearing this pre-season interruption crud. Morton hurt his finger and missed a few weeks. That does not cause a loss of aerobic capacity, running ability or even weight building. Morton is simply a player who does not want to play AFL badly enough. Look at his brothers if you want to see how the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Morton has played many times in the backline - hanging in the fwds pocket getting cheap kicks.

As for winning the Larke medal. FMD. What do you want? Valenti won two Listons. So what. Even Ezra Poyas has won one. It means nothing. Absolutely nothing about a players ability at AFL level. We have seen enough of Cale to know what his strengths and weaknesses are. My bet is he won't last 5 games under Neeld.

His most infuriating habit for mine is hanging 10-15m off his player when the opp'n has the ball. WTF is that about?? Does he think he can run the player down? ALl it does is give the player an easy possession. You can mark my words and I'll be watching him closely today.

I agree that he needs another 3-5 kilos. However there is a difference between stating he has put no weight on and saying you would like him to play at a higher weight. I will take the official AFL stats for his weight over "you standing next to him". Maybe you should have asked if you could try and lift him up just to be sure.

I assume you mean he was gifted games in his first 2 years when he averaged 18 and 22 possessions? Morton then hurt his knee in the last practice match of 2010 and missed the first 8 games, then injured his finger and missed the last 3 practice matches last year and the first rounds of the season.

Going to the backline to get a kick does not equate to playing in the back 6. I assume most football followers understand this.

Comparing the Larke medal for the best U18 player with players winning the Liston for the best player in a second tier competition speaks for itself.

I am not saying he does not have faults but the amount of bile that is spewed on this sight about him is ridiculous.

I hope you and others watch him today with an unbiased view but I find that doubtful.

I said some time ago that opposition players must just love it when Morton goes to them. They know the handshake is about as close as he's going to get all day. They know he's not going to to hurt them physically or on the scoreboard. From what I've witnessed in recent times Cale Morton cannot survive at this level. He might be okay in an elite team where team-mates have the skills to feed him out wide where he can use his run but in this team he needs to be able to get his own ball.

Could I be proven wrong? Geez, I hope so.

Open season on Cale today. His performance today has been deplorable.

I thought he'd been okay until "that" moment on the HFF. I detest the vitriol that gets said about Cale on here, but I will say that if that's his idea of a second effort, his stay in the senior team will be short.

Was far from our worst today. Gave some run, made a few errors but give him a few games before writing him off this year. Just an easy target for the keyboard heros.

WTF?! Were you there?

Did nothing (excluding a few turnovers and clangers). Was pushed off the ball any time it was near him (which was not often). Did not chase hard enough (although wasn't alone there).

Should NEVER play for MFC again. EVER.

Good effort to type when you are clearly medically blind mate. Morton was disgusting. Putting up with Morton and accepting that performance from a bloke playing for his career is worse than jus.tifying mediocrity

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
