The New Sponsors

Apparently Ju$$'s Grandma spoke to our potential sponsors a while back. They told her that they couldn't take the risk of sponsoring the MFC because Phat Phil would cause the planes to flip in even the slightest turbulence. Also the fact that they don't have hot pie's or deep fried Mars Bars on the menu may have caused the turbulence within the plane also. :P

She explained that neither he nor any relations of his are part of the MFC. This has been the reason for the delay but now it's all back on track. Rumour has it that they have had so much enjoyment from this thread that some posters may even get free flights to all interstate games for season 2012. But that deal will only go through if they are signed before the home and away season starts.......

?????????????????

We still don't have a sponsor. The airline deal is a rumour that started on this site.

Hopefully the club picks up a sponsor and it is a big one, but at this stage Melbourne are playing a competitive game on the weekend without the FOJ sponsor. I cannot remember a club in my life time that has been in this situation.

Why dont you march in Cam's office & tell him how it should be done? How do you know what the status of the airline is??? Do you have insider knowledge of whats going on or just guessing??

Yes, we are playing a match this weekend - but, its a practice match for gods sake!! Im sure Cam & the guys are on top of what needs to be done........

hopefully someone who was thinking of sponsoring us was watching last night, missed opportunity to have ur logo on our jumper flogging collingwood!

I don't know if you could call Saturday night a flogging.

Although this is all good news, I wouldn't be heralding us as giant killers... We all know what time of the year it is, right?

There were a couple of 3-4 minute bursts of "flogging" last night. One in the third and one in the fourth, each resulted in a run of scores to us...

nothing to get too excited about, but quite enjoyable.

Yes i think it will be after the nab cup so it does not take away from reach. So i think we will see the new sponser around the 22nd of march 2012.

I can appreciate the Reach gesture but this should definitely not be in the way of our FOJ sponsor announcement.

If this is the case then priorities are UTS.

Reach may have there own deal, however small....If our new Foj Sponsor is a big one, i have no problems waiting till after the practise games..

Jimmy & his work is still very much a part of our fabric.

Hope your info is spot on JCB...

Anyone know someone who works at Sherrin.

Hopefully its a done deal and the club is waiting for some clear air I thought the whole wangaratta debacle was too muvh a detractor for a Sponsor announcement.

I don't have any inside info mate. I asked at training yesterday and was told it could be any day now. My comment was more suggesting that of its a done deal just announce it already.

I haven't really the faintest knowledge of the sponsor. Reading JCB's and your posts it could be anytime in the next two weeks.

If its a done deal I can understand the wait on the announcement given Schwab has stated and hinted to all in sundry that this is a strategic relationship. So the planets must align (ie everything needs to be in place) before the announcement. If its as important as I'm making it out to be...it's worth the wait.

Reality is that it has been any day now since last bloody September. Of course it's any day now. The proper season starts any day now, but we just know the exact date, that's the difference.

Any day now Melbourne will win a premiership.

I hope that it is announced by the end of the week, or by the end of next week. I hope that it's the big deal we hoped we'd get. I hope it's a Chinese company that will show our continued growth in to the Asian market. I hope all my posts about what the next co-major sponsor will pay is incorrect so that the likes of B59 can sit back and say "I told you so", I sincerely do.

Slightly off topic, but something we may need to prepare ourselves for (or hopefully may not). I was watching the footy on the weekend, from memory the Carlton v Bulldogs game - the Bulldogs obviously have Mission Foods as one of their major sponsors. Mission get front and back of jumper rights. Could we see Energy Watch getting the same exposure on the red and blue jumper? I hope not. Just thought it was interesting that the Bulldogs only have the one jumper sponsor.

Yeah, they have renewed their original $1.5m/year deal from 2009-2011. So they ended up after stealing them with less cash than our 'falling backwards into Kaspersky/Hankook deals.'

Don't know what they are getting from them now, though...

The longer this goes on, the more I fear we will begin the season without a sponsor.

Jurrah's issues can't help the cause. I am getting frustrated.

Mate, they could come out tomorrow announcing a $5m/year deal and i'd still feel a little low, given what has transpired in the past 2 days.

Could our new FOJ sponsor be..........'Starwood Hotels & Resorts Group' or one of it's hotel chains?

They have recently sponsored the Delhi Daredevils and have sponsored the NHL in America and others in the past.

They have also built or are building a hotel/resort in the province that CS is looking to secure a multi year deal with the high altitude training facility in China.

We are looking to build a long term presence in China and the Chinese will, in the future according to tourism experts be Australia's major tourism driver.

I am very confident that Starwood are the front runner after doing a little detective work online. I won't say anymore as i don't want to ruin any announcement from the club (and no i don't have any inside knowledge just putting a couple online pieces of a puzzle together) but if Starwood (or one of its brands) are our sponsor it will be massive for the exposure of their brand here and our brand not only in China but also Asia. Looking forward to an announcement and if my hunch is right then i'll be very grateful to our SEO, Mr Schwab.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
