Speculation thats idle at best. DB was right not make a statement whether Garry Lyon should be coach of MFC. Its not his domain and was not going to be part of the media circus circling.

Absolute quality. It's a real pity it didn't work out for him at the MFC.

Bailey was without doubt a selfless coach and, despite Saturday's debacle, he has set us up well for the future.

Clearly a man of enormous integrity. I wish him all the best for the future.

You don't win premierships unless you build a list, and a list is not 21 or 22 players. I have no hesitation in what we've done. It's the right thing for the club. Put the club ahead of himself. Selfless. The MFC owes Bailey and the members an explanation of the exact reasons for his sacking, why CS was given a 1-year extension (if the playing group is disgruntled with him) and why CC has the full support of the club. No more hiding, total transparency. Save what credibility we have left.

I also feel it is time to tell Tom he must let his decision be known.

He has spoken really well and hasnt hit out at the club.

I think it's pretty clear who calls the shots at the MFC.

In the four years DB was at the club I had the opportunity to have some great conversations with him, he finished the way he is, honest, candid, integrity intact and with a hint of humour.....we should all be grateful for the work he has done

I see this as a mistake by the club. We have just dispensed with a valuable person, with obvious integrity, and ability as a manager of football and footballers. We have replaced him with a great player but one who doesn't like the modern analysis approach. Meanwhile the 'old boys' network is retained. Our club legends are few because we haven't had much success or sustained period of high standard footy over the past forty years. We clutch at straws with people like Lyon, Viney, Ox and Connolly. Gazing inward is not the way for us. Bailey brought a modern scientific approach. Succes would have come eventually. I am very disappointed.

He obviously has the ear of a couple of people but 'calling the shots' is a bit rich.

To me, the trouble looks to be poorly defined roles and Schwab micro-management, coupled with players who are terrible on-field leaders but eloquent enough off the field to air grievances to the highest level.

I wasnt a big fan of him as a coach but im an enormous fan of him as a bloke. Showed incredible class and dignity in his press conference. Didnt take pot shots at anyone and remained firm about the direction of the club. Even cracked a couple of jokes which was really good to see.

I think Bails still has a lot to offer in the business of football. I think he would be the perfect fit for a director of coaching role and in mentoring young players/coaches just like he has done for us. He has a wonderful attitude to life and so many people can learn a lot from him. He never gave up for a second as a player or coach and i truly respect his will to keep fighting!

Thanks for all your efforts Dean and you will be missed by all. I wish you all the best for the future and i hope none of our young players ever forget what you have done for them.

Surely none of us expected Dean Bailey to handle himself any differently. His even-temperedness, integrity and honesty have never been in question and should not be now. He has shown again this afternoon that he is a man of character. I hope his next step into football, whatever that step is, might be kinder to him.

His development model, willingness to do the hard yards, focus on getting games into young players have all been excellently planned and executed. The main ingredient missing has been his ability to match-day coach and inspire the 22. The Geelong game was the straw that broke the camels back in regards to his coaching.

What concerns me is that the Club should have shown a similar integrity and invited him to retain his position until the end of this year. He could have then decided whether to coach for the next 5 weeks, or leave.

I really believe in what Jimmy, the Board, Schwab and Connolly have done over the past 3 years but they have shown a lack of courage and integrity by not giving Dean Bailey the right to see this season out.

I now wait to see what Jimmy and the Board will say to the leadership group. I hope they show some courage here.

Expresses outrage on radio on Saturday, says he'll be giving Jimmy a call and lo and behold, Dean is outski 24 hours later.
