Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New coach now?

I'd be sick if Malthouse got the job, don't see how anybody could want a self-serving knobjockey like that as our coach after what he said about Addam Maric.

You are kidding aern't you....Did you watch closely the skill and continuous Commitment the Filth threw at the MFC last monday from the first bounce???

We matched them for about 6 minutes.

Is Malthouse going to sign up somewhere else while the finals are on?

Okay, so who are these other 'good (proven) coaches'?

Laidley? Williams? Sheedy (hah)? Matthews (hah)?

How were their Clubs travelling when they left?

Paul Roo's

Mick Malthouse

Bring Back John Northey

IN that order

The pies had a lot more experience on the park and in the coaches box on Saturday .I guess Geelong were in a similar boat about six years ago . I think we got beaten in all the little areas all day like shepherds ,blocks ,talking ,taps on ,tackles completed ,playing on .Bailey has put together an awesome list of talent .Look at the build and age of Moloney ,Sylvia ,Frawley compared to Strauss ,Gawn ,Scully ,Trengrove ,Morton ,Garland ,Jurrah ,Jetta and Watts . Sylvia , Moloney , Frawley etc are strong enough to handle nearly anyone but the others will fill out in a year or two so we have to wait and trust the "switcher" . I do think we need a more simple plan out of defence and we should cut out the kicks across the face of goal . Until then we either play the skinny kids or we trade em all and go backwards . We wont change 50 years in five minutes . I think Schwab is a bit of an administrative genius in what he has done with Jimmy ,CC ,Bailey ,drafting etc .We need to stay the course .We cant afford a super coach anyway .Scully has said he will stay and I think he will .Relax all you head choppers . We lost a game to the best team in the comp .I think they also started the Scully rumour .We can't fall apart now .

Malthouse, Roos, Thompson and Clarkson are all available would take anyone of them over Bailey.

Bomber Thompson? He'd have to take a pay cut to be our senior coach and he wouldn't want to.

Clarkson I'd be very keen on, but surely a top 4 finish will be enough to get him another deal. He did win the flag only 3 years ago!

Not sure we can afford Malthouse. And I'm not so keen on Paul Roos as I was earlier in the year. In his media work he appears very stubborn, which could be a good thing, but I'd hate to see years of stoppage football or for nothing. Sydney are hardly missing him.

Why on earth didn't we appoint Damien Hardwick! He's a natural.

The notion of replacing Bailey...and doing it now are essentially mutually exclusive. You can do one without the other.

The writing was scribed in 10 foot tall letters on the wall recently enough. Lyon spoke them. He has 5-6 weeks to ...etc etc etc..."insert whatever version of ultimatum/consequnce you prefer " but its essentially..Either we get back on track with more wins than losses or its all over red rover.

whats really accomplishable for the next 11 weeks irrespective of whos at the helm ? Finals ?? Mathematically ? Yes.. Likelyhood ..NO !!

Years result.. Well the optimistic and/or apologists will offer up its yet another development year.

The realists , strangely enough will counter, no, agree, it in effect has become yet another development year.

Will it really mattter who takes the wheel til seasons end ? I doubt it.

Is there reason to think continuity til seasons end might offer more cohesion , more balance, more poise especially heading into the next preseason and year ? I think so

I think Bailey is the right man for the rest of 2011, but beyond I just cant see it . This doesnt stop the club instigating its search for his replacement

Bailey didn't tell them to get pushed off the ball but they did .Keep your panties on all you coach sackers .He picked the team most people on the forum wanted .We could do with some steroids-maybe we should get Alistair Sleepy Lynch to coach , supply roids and leave Scully where he is ?

For what it's worth to this conversation, I was at the Platinum Club luncheon at the G on Monday, and Russell Howcroft was a speaker. He started talking about Bailey, and he really did sound quite genuine. The statement was that he and the board are extremely happy with the coaching staff (with Bailey singled out), and also exceptionally happy with the addition of Viney. Now I know I'll get howled down cause Howcroft wouldn't say otherwise, but I must insist that whilst not meaning too much, he really did sound genuine. I personally am not quite sure whether I agree, but that's just what was said, make of it what y'all will.

This is not a case of settling down rpfc - some of us came to a calm, considered opinion a long time ago.

Getting rid of a coach mis-season is rushing when you don't have to get rid of a coach.

And how long ago did you make your mind up?

I make up my mind when presented with all the facts, the last 11 rounds of this season should be quite illuminating...

We could get Al Pacino to make the speech from Any Given Sunday but it wont make the players any stronger .Any genius know the actual coaching deficiencies of Bailey or this a knee jerk reaction to a thumping .

Ok?

I'm not saying you can't bring up what has happened in the years before the last 11 rounds...

I am just saying that an entire season of judgement is fairer to everyone, no?

Cause I could reverse your statement and say that the first 11 rounds were harder and therefore our 10th placement is rather good...

Anyway, it's all arguable, and it's all subjective, and it's all about the effort rather than the results.

Sorry, I wasn't disagreeing with you. Was just trying to say that allowing the rest of the year needs to be taken in perspective to be thorough in any decision made. A few soft wins don't necessarily save him in my opinion, because the efforts, not results, have so far been generally terrible against good sides.

Far too sensible : I'm going to ignore what you wrote and suggest everyone else does too.

Plus - anyone who writes anything that seems measured, considered and doesn't recommend the Al Qaida approach to AFL domination must surely be either one of Dean Bailey's children or a concubine musn't they?

The question now that must be asked... how long before we decide we need a new coach. If we wait until season is over, I believe would be a mistake I reckon most good (proven) coaches will be already taken by years end. Malthouse will not stick around at the filth and must be considered. Eade is not an option, has left Dogs as he left Sydney, in disaray. It is something that the club must consider now, wait until seasons end when the good coaches are already signed would leave us with the situation we now are in, next best option please. Time we stopped ovoiding the enevitable, the football dept needs a whole new stucture, we have the players, though young, but not the leadership on or off the playing field.

I don't care If we sign Roos Now... As long as Bailey serves out his contract till the end of ther Year.

I'd be happy for Bailey to remain as Coach next year, Or,,, as an assistant, IF we were to sign Roos or Matthews...

Yeah, and a first year Coach & his team,,, beat your Super Coach, and his super Team..... Maybe we'd better grab the Aire apparent Great Scott.

I mentioned Malthouse. You must have missed me ask whether he'd be signing with a new Club before finals. Ditto Clarkson...would he be likely to sign with a Club (that isn't Hawthorn) before the end of the season? If not, even if we want to change coaches we don't need to move before the end of the season.

Is Thompson really 'available'? I'm not sure he is on the market, but I don't have any inside info so maybe he is. If not, we - again - don't need to move before the end of the season.

Roos is one I overlooked. There's one we could miss if another Club beat us to the punch, but if I were Roos I'd want to see what opportunities were about and wouldn't feel rushed into signing with a Club unless it was the gig I wanted anyway. However, maybe there's some incentive to get into the market early for Roos. Even if that's the case, it has to be weighed against the negatives of a mid-season sacking.

If it's boring to you, go to bed, this is a serious issue not likely to go away soon, we need change and we need it now. How were you feeling on Monday if you were there?

We need to do what we said we'd do. Judge Bailey at season's end.

Or would you have preferred to renew his contract after the Essendon game?

Thankfully, the club aren't going to be making decisions based on one game, especially one against the current premiers.

Who would we get?

I agree Eade is not an option and really hasn't performed as a coach.

Roos in my view would do a great job but he still has kids in Sydney and no need to take on a hard job, I doubt he will want to coach in the next couple of years.

Malthouse Do we really have the stomach for him and the financial demands he would place on the club in the footy department?

Who else would we consider?

The MFC assessment of whether to stick with Bailey or not will depend upon the assessment of the whole of the year and whether they believe he is the right man to coach them for the next 2 to 3 years. Another poster sensibly wrote that MFC assessment of the right man to lead us is going to depend upon the other options.

The availability (and cost) or not of a Malthouse or a Roos may improve/weaken Bailey's chances to continue as Coach in 2012.

Cost should not be a criteria. This is the reason we ended up with Bailey in the first place. We should be selecting the best available.

Firstly, sacking Bailey mid-season would not achieve one single positive thing. rediculous suggestion.

Secondly, whatever happens to Bailey, he has done really great things for this club and we should all be appreciative. We'll all be looking back in 2 years time (assuming Bailey isn't coach), being bloody thankful of all the young stars that were all drafted under his tenure. He has managed to develop several players beyond our expectations and has really set the club up for 5-6 years at the top starting from 2012 or 2013

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
